kristen: now i can. >> ok. so, we have a desire to produce a project to support bible translators on the field to help them improve their speed and quality for bible translation. kristen: how many linkages -- i believe the bible is one of the most translated pieces of work, and it has been translated to over 700 languages. how many more are there? >> there are about 7100 languages, approximately. the full bible is only available in 10% of the linkages, and the new testament in a few more thousand. there is a huge need to really provide bible translation to communities where there may be more than 100,000 speakers, air or even one million. kristen: matthew, your were bible translators. historically, who did the translations, and what were the problems? >> my parents have been involved with the bible translation process. i grew up seeing on the field most of the technical issues they were facing that i felt were things technology could help. not fully replace them, but support them as an assistant. that is what l

kristen: i agree with you on the yummy food thing. was just in taiwan -- can i just share some of my pictures from the foot i had in the night markets? they were just to die for and so inexpensive as well. there were so many people out there, it was so festive. can you talk about -- i know you worked with assemblyman amy on this, what inspired you to say let's make it easier to bring that here and have these markets? >> my husband is from taiwan. he grew up in taipei. we go back every year to visit his family, so we visit the night markets. when i was newly elected, we were there in december, i thought, we should bring this to the sunset district in san francisco. we had a little bit of a roadblock bureaucracy. the city department said, we can't streamline a permit because state lies in the way. so i called up assembly member haney and said, let's change the state law, because we want to make it easier for any city in california to have a net market. because to me night markets bring joy, we need more joy in san francisco. but they al

i'm kristen sze. julian: i'm julian glover. the city of san jose is calling it a victory in the fight against gun violence. and in 2022, they passed a law requiring gun owners to have liability insurance. just last week, a court dismissed the second amendment claims. kristen: zach fuentes has tracking the case from the beginning and has the latest. reporter: called the first of its kind in the nation, the city of san jose passed the new law last year. since the start of 2023, gun owners have to have liability insurance and pay a fee of $25. that would go to a nonprofit, for the money to be used for firearm safety training, suicide prevention and more. the ordinance was faced with backlash since the time it was announced. >> immediately the city was sued. reporter: plaintiffs included the jarvis taxpayer association, challenging the ordinance on finding it unconstitutional. >> it is going to be the law-abiding citizens who actually deter crime by having weapons in their homes, who are going to be the ones who bear the burden of

kristen: i'm kristen sze. no one was hurt in that incident yesterday but it caused serious traffic delays for drivers leaving san francisco. larry: abc7 today looked into that disruption, talking to investigators and witnesses. reporter: all westbound lanes, shut down for reports of yet another freeway shooting involving two cars for about half an hour wednesday morning just after 11 a.m. this comes just a day after all eastbound lanes of i-80 were closed on the east side of the bay bridge toll plaza over this. coworker alex were on their way back to the east bay after work, when they came across a car parked sideways, blocking multiple lanes of traffic. >> i heard a pop. i was walking around and hurt. -- and heard. like, oh, that's actually a gun. reporter: that's when they noticed this woman not wearing any clothes firing a weapon into oncoming traffic. we froze the video as soon as she holds up the gun. >> how do i get out of here? we are sitting ducks. we have nothing but a windshield protecting us. report

kristen: good afternoon. julian: we have team coverage of this triple digit heat in several parts of the bay area. lena howland is live in brentwood, the steps being taken to those who cannot avoid being out in the heat. kristen: colonel bernard is live. we start with spencer christian. spencer: i have not stopped watching the weather conditions. we have some updated information. this is an excessive heat warning. yesterday we were talking about excessive heat watches for the bay area. we will be under an excessive heat warning from 11:00 a.m. saturday to 11 p.m. sunday. the temperatures will range from upper 90's to near 110. low temperatures overnight will be the 60's in the valleys, and 70's in the higher elevations. that is one for overnight conditions. this heat can increase the risk of heat related illnesses. this is -- the bay area is not the only part of the state that will experience this. we have this heat warning in effect for most of the entire state of california, with the exception of the easter

kristen: thank. meantime, you know the winter weather is not the only factor contribute into the slow start of fire season. larry: spencer christian joins us with more of that. spencer: we have had a favorable pattern with our wind past couple of months. keeping the temperatures near the coast and the bay relatively low compared with some of the heat spikes we have had inland. we have seen gusts over 25 miles an hour along many coastal areas, but again, that onshore flow increases relative humidity, keeping locations f getting dangerously low -- in fact, keeping inland areas from getting dangerously dry as well. we have temperatures in the upper 50's to mid 60's along the coast in san francisco and oakland. about 25 or more degrees lower than some of our inland locations now. this, of course, reduces our concerns of fires, but we do have a heat spike coming this weekend. saturday, we will see high temperatures inland around 100 degrees, upper 90's for sure, and over 100 sunday when we expect to have

kristen: not so this weekend's big story, the heat. it'll hit triple digits in large parts of the state. julian: we have team coverage for you this afternoon, with news reporters were no bernard and ryan curry trying to stay cool right now. we will start with spencer christian, up in the kgo roof. how's it going, spencer? meteorologist: it is nice and comfortable and breezy up here but we have quite a bit of inland heat already and that's not even the weekend yet. it is 100 degrees in brentwood, 99 livermore, 102 and 90's. notice the contrast between the inland areas and the coast is 59°. the coastline is a good place to go the next couple of days. we will be under an excessive heat warning from 11 a.m. tomorrow to 11 p.m. sunday for virtually all of the bay area except the coast and the short, the bay shoreline. it is going to be uncomfortable overnight as well as temperatures will only drop into the 60's and 70's. here's a look at the projected hides for tomorrow, numerous locations between 105 and 100 10° inland. around the bay, mid

kristen: yes, undoubtedly., i think it's probably too soon to extrapolate out the recent inflation prints to say that we beat inflation and that we have things under control. and again, the u michigan report on friday was a good reminder of that with inflation expectations ticking higher in both the short term and long term. but undoubtedly the weakness we're seeing from china is certainly going to contribute to a softer landing in the u.s. kailey: if we're looking at a softer landing, when do you anticipate that the fed may actually follow what china is doing, in terms of easing policy rather than tightening it? kristen: that's a great question. our house view is that door too many cuts priced. it's probably too soon after the last c.p.i. report. our core house view is we are going to see a more gradual return to neutral rates. we do expect cuts to come next year, but certainly not at the pace that the market is currently pricing. guy: where does that leave with you euro dollar? kristen: great question. euro h

kristen: i'm kristen sze.n the bridge, but friday that was certainly not the case and police say after 17 hours, a man was rescued and getting treatment in the hospital after suffering a mental health crisis on the bridge at the start of the evening commute. i did bring bay area traffic to -- it did bring bay area traffic to a standstill. it's prompted leaders to reflect on how particles could be -- protocols could be improved for future shutdowns. reporter: the battalion talking about the dramatic rescue of a man who crawled down underneath the regiment sunroof i'll bridge friday afternoon. >> him being underneath the lower deck of the richmond bridge, very complex, very hazardous for both himself and rescuers. reporter: the man was suffering a mental health crisis. >> initially, he wasn't responding to us and through our bilingual rescuer finally was able to start having a conversation with him. reporter:

i'm kristen sze. julian: i'm julian glover.es to be an issue for stores across san francisco. we are learning shoplifting crimes increased by 20% in san francisco from pre-pandemic stats of 2019 to 2022, all that according to the state department of justice. kristen: a walgreens in the city's richmond district is locking its freezers with chains in response. our reporter went to that richmond store to see it firsthand and spoke with workers and business owners in the area. luz? reporter: not only did we see the chained up freezers but we also saw several shoplifters in action. multiple walked in and grabbed what they wanted and simply walked out. it didn't take long, within the first hour of being at walgreens here on 17th avenue in san francisco, we witnessed multiple shoplifters. one of them even took the time to explain why he simply didn't pay. off-camera, a walgreens employee told me they are a

i'm kristen sze. julian: i'm julian glover.lling it a victory in the fight against gun violence. and in 2022, they passed a law requiring gun owners to have liability insurance. just last week, a court dismissed the second amendment claims. kristen: zach fuentes has tracking the case from the beginning and has the latest. reporter: called the first of its kind in the nation, the city of san jose passed the new law last year. since the start of 2023, gun owners have to have liability insurance and pay a fee of $25. that would go to a nonprofit, for the money to be used for firearm safety training, suicide prevention and more. the ordinance was faced with backlash since the time it was announced. >> immediately the city was sued. reporter: plaintiffs included the jarvis taxpayer association, challenging the ordinance
