i'm kristen sze. thanks for joining us. governor gavin newsom and state attorney general rob bonta are launching part two in the state's latest efforts to battle crime in oakland and surrounding areas with violent crime up over 20% in oakland last year. they're sending in state attorneys to help the alameda county da's office prosecute more criminals. just in the last half hour, i spoke with attorney general rob bonta and asked him how this is going to work. attorney general bonta, thanks so much for joining us. sending in state attorneys under your purview to handle local business. is this a reflection of how critical you think things have become in alameda county? >> there's no doubt that the levels of, of crime and safety, public safety challenges in oakland, the east bay, alameda county are unacceptable and i think nearly every leader will tell you that. and it's a time for collaborative leadership. the different levels and layers of government working together. the governor's office, my team at the doj, the da's office

you know, kristen. so there's some people that argue that, you know, oakland put itself in some of this mess by some of the rules that it put on its own police. for example, if somebody leaving the scene of a crime or committing a crime but not a violent crime, oakland cops aren't allowed to pursue it in hot pursuit because it's considered a danger to the rest of the public. chp isn't bound by those rules. they can do what they want to do within the strictures of california law, and that's going the oakland police tell me that that's a great help, that if they're chasing somebody, the chp can come in there as well. also the chp has been a tremendous help in san francisco in cracking down on the open air drug marketing and fentanyl crisis by bringing the resources of the state and the intelligence of the state to bear, as well. and that's what they're hoping to do in oakland, not just say, patrol and keep an eye out for sideshows and, you know, crazy traffic situations, but actually get in there and help

i'm kristen sze. thanks for joining us. bay area health officials are watching an alarming surge in norovirus cases. what is driving the spread of this stomach bug? here to talk more about that. other major medical headlines and has just completed trip to alabama to study the effects of racism on health care. ucsf infectious diseases specialist doctor peter chin-hong. doctor chin-hong, nice to have you on the show. >> thanks for having me on, kristen. >> there's so much to talk about. i want to start with norovirus because it hits closest to home. how many cases have we seen locally and when did this start? >> yeah, so we gathered typical surge uh- every winter. but of course people kind of forgot about it because in the early part of the pandemic, i'd say in the first uh- two years or so, we virtually had no cases. um, but, um, we've been having just making up for lost time essentially by having i would say, thousands of cases in the area. many of them are uncounted because they don't come to the hospital. but other measur

lisa: still with us right now is kristen bitterly.o price in the election, but there is policy differentials coming into play that are factoring very much into investments. how are you looking at some of the trade policy and tariffs in terms of where you want to allocate and where you are concerned? kristen: this is a major theme in the difference between 2023 and 2024. last year everyone was about everyone being a part-time economist. this year, and we have been traveling around the globe with our outlook for 20, 24 the number one concern is geopolitics and elections. when you look at the data and say, even for the u.s. equities how does u.s. markets perform in an election year, it is quite positive. when you have an incumbent running you have volatile months leading up to it, but we could make the argument that this year is different. one area in the way we are exploring this within portfolios is through a theme called economic security more broadly, looking at these themes saying everything from near shoring, economic security has

doctor tucciarone, thanks for your time. >> kristen, thanks for having me. so what is seasonal depression and how common is it? seasonal depression is very common. uh- happens almost 5% of patients that we see even up to 10% in primary care facilities. primary care clinics. and it's really a depression that's kind of coupled to uh- the late fall and early winter. and namely reductions in sunlight and exposure to sunlight. >> can you explain why that reduction in sunlight, what does it do to us physiologically, you know, why does it lead to those feelings of depression? >> sure. the mechanisms aren't totally understood, but we do think that, uh, disruptions in light can mess with certain aspects of our brain, referred to as our circadian rhythms. and our circadian rhythms are regulated by a region of our brain called the hypothalamus. but uh, this region of the hypothalamus called the suprachiasmatic nucleus, regulates multiple processes in our body, including our sleep, our metabolism, um, and our mood and so as we get more, uh, less exposure to bright light

eastern kristen holmes is following the latest with trump campaign. show. she is in columbia those headquarters tonight. so kristen obviously it looks like trump will be victorious. we'll see how this goes. i will see how it goes. exit polls certainly also indicating that how badly does trump want to beat nikki haley and her home state? i mean, what sort of margin would make him feel that this was a victory >> what they're really looking at is the how badly can we be nikki haley in this statement they are hoping that the polls are accurate when you're talking about a 30 point lead in some of these holes, that is what they are hoping holds. now, one of the things that i have heard from trump's advisors really since for iowa was that they were hoping that he would win. i wasn't. they would get those big holdout donors then they were hoping you win iowa and new hampshire. so he would get those big holdout donors. now they are hoping with big margins in iowa, new hampshire, and south carolina that they will get not only those big holdout donors, but also some r

cnn's kristen holmes is joining us now from washington, d.c. you have gotten some information from the trump team just coming out as we got this 57-page ruling from the d.c. appeals court. what are they saying? >> reporter: sara, the highlight here is they're going to plan to appeal, which isn't that surprising. i'm going to read part of the statement and we can go through it. writes, if immunity is not granted to a president, every future president who leaves office will be immediately indicted by the opposing party without complete immunity, a president of the united states would not be able to properly function. jack smith's prosecution of president trump for his presidential official acts is unconstitutional under immunity and separation of powers. prosecuting a president threatens the bedrock of our republic. president trump will appeal in order to safeguard the presidency and the constitution. our colleague caitkatelyn polan points out the court addressing this, saying at one point it was clear former presidents were aware that they could
