we want to begin our coverage tonight with nbc's kristen dahlgren. good evening. >> reporter: good evening, brian. yeah, there is a crowd gathered here tonight continuing the celebration. it's been an incredible 24 hours here. three men are now in custody. three women are free. including amanda berry who disappeared in 2003 at age 16 headed home from her job at burger king. her family never saw her again until now. amanda berry alive with her family, a picture some never thought they would see. finally safe, but only after a harrowing escape and a desperate call to 911. >> help me, i'm amanda berry. >> do you need police, fire or ambulance? >> i need police. >> okay. what's going on there? >> i've been kidnapped and i've been missing for ten years. and i'm here, i'm free now. >> all right. we're sending them, okay? >> okay, i mean like -- >> who is the guy -- who is the guy who went out? >> his name is ariel castro. >> how old is he? >> he's like 52. >> all right. >> i'm amanda berry. i've been on the news for the last ten years. >> i see this girl g

kristen dahlgren will be joining the conversation in a moment. clint, i want to start with you. this is certainly an eye-opening, a miraculous story to find out that these three women have now been found, they've been take on the hospital an released back to their families. but it was the police in cleveland who held a press conference this morning on the investigation. i want to play more of that as well. but first, this is sandra ruiz, one of the aunts of the victims who had this to say moments ago. >> these girls, these women are so strong. stronger than i am. i will tell you that much. and they all have a positive attitude. and this is what we need from everyone. we need to still be a family, neighborhood with neighborhood. we need to watch out for all kids. really. watch who your neighbor is because you never know. >> watch who your neighbor is. you will never know. three families on this long road to recovery with these three rescued women and little 6-year-old girl as well. kristen dahlgren, what are the police saying about the three castro brothers under arrest and what

nbc's kristen dahlgren is outside the home where this all went down. for a second and imagine what it's like for those women and those families today. they had been holding out hope. we don't often hear happy endings in these stories. they held out hope for ten years or so, and this morning they are reunited with those women that they lost so long ago. now, amanda berry, she disappeared in 2003, a week before her 17th birthday. gina dejesus disappeared in 2004, and knight disappeared in 2003 when she was 20 years old. yesterday they were found in this house back here, and we have the dramatic 911 call, amanda berry after she escaped dialed 911. listen to this. >> i'm eating my mcdonald's, and i come out -- >> cleveland 911. >> help me. i'm amanda berry. >> do you need police, fire or ambulance? >> i need police. >> okay. and what's going on there? >> i've been kidnapped, and i've been missing for ten years, and i'm -- i'm here. i'm free now. >> reporter: you can hear just the absolute panic in her voice and relief. she says i am free and says that she h

nbc's kristen dahlgren is in cleveland with the latest on the investigation. rning, natalie. the fbi was out here for hours. they could be back later today. among some of the items they took away from the house a truck, an suv, also that door that was knocked down to get the women out of the house. the three suspects, arial castro and his brothers, pedro and onil are expected to be charged sometime today after prosecutors asked for a little more time. as for the women, amanda berry, gina dejesus and michelle knight they are in a private place getting reacquainted with their families. they may come home today. i spoke with michelle knight's mother, she put a flyer on the door of that home showing you just how close over the years people came. she had no idea her daughter was inside. >> right under their nose. kristen dahlgren, thanks so much. >>> a southwest airlines flight from orlando to providence, rhode island, was diverted to charleston after the captain declared an emergency. there were three disruptive passengers on board but southwest blames one customer

. >> nbc's kristen dahlgren with the latest. thank you, kristen. let's bring in joseph capostashi, the brother of msnbc's own chris jansing, and the former ninth grade science teacher of today's hero, amanda berry. joseph, good afternoon to you. >> good afternoon, martin. >> what are your recollections of amanda as a student? because as i understand it, she disappeared at the age of 16 back in 2003. >> yes. i had her the year before as a science student, ninth grader. and she was in a class with 20 boys and 5 girls. now, it was a rough class, but she stood her ground. she was really a tough cookie, but she was also an "a," "b" student with me. she always did her look, never gave a problem. she was really a sweet girl. yeah, she looked rough around the edges, you know, she had her pierced ears, pierced eyebrow, but she really was a very nice girl. she was a hardworking girl. but she was a tough cookie. and it did not surprise me one bit that she actually was one who led the way for these other women to be brought out of that house. >> what was your

nbc's kristen dahlgren joins us now with details. kristen, good morning. >> yeah, tough story. jolie cited a family history of cancer as a reason to undergo that preventative procedure. sadly this morning, that history has claimed another family member. >> reporter: angelina jolie's aunt, debbie martin, passed away early sunday morning after a battle with breast cancer. >> she was my best friend. the most beautiful woman i knew. >> she was a beautiful person. we're going to miss her dearly. >> reporter: the 61-year-old was the sister of jolie's mother, marcheline bertrand who passed away in 2007, after her decade long struggle with ovarian cancer. earlier this morning in a "new york times" op-ed, jolie revealed she, quote, had an 87% risk of breast cancer and a 50% be risk of ovarian cancer due to her family's likelihood of carrying the high-risk brca1 gene. with the preventative double mastectomy, that risk is now about 5%. >> because angelina jolie has the brca gene mutation, she's at increased risk for breast and ovarian cancer. so it is a very smart decision on her part to
