kristen holmes. all right. thank you very much. president biden as we were just saying a few moments ago, responding to haley suspending her campaign. let me go to arlette seinz, who's over at the white house for us. arlette. tell us what more i. mean that the biden campaign was pretty fast. something tells me they might have had some of this typed out before nikki haley made that announcement at 10:00 this morning? >> yeah, jim and president biden in his statement, made a direct appeal for hate. nikki haley's supporters as same in the statements that there is a place for them in his campaign. now, the biden campaign believes that they have some room to potentially tap into moderate and haley supporters who are turned off by former president donald trump. that is something the president spoke to in a statement saying that they had worked to try to or that some of the things they can coalesce around are fighting for democracy and also preserving the nato alliance in the statement, the president isn't it really went to great lengths

let's get over to kristen holmes right now. she's got some new reporting coming in. does the trump team reacting, kristen? so in terms of the trump team, the campaign, the political arm, donald trump himself, we haven't heard, but we have heard now from donald trump's lawyer in the fulton county case, steve sadow and this is what he said. he said while respecting the court's decision, we believe that the court did not afford appropriate significance to the prosecutorial misconduct of willis and wade, including the financial benefits, testifying untruthful about when their personal relationship began, as well as willis extra judicial mlk, quote, church speech, where she played the race card and falsely accused the defendants and their counsel of racism will use all legal options available as we continue to fight to end this case, which should have never been brought in the first place. so obviously he they're saying that they are going to continue to fight. they're likely to issue some kind of appeal to this. >> i >> do want to say one thing about donald trump, his tea

first, let's go to cnn's kristen holmes, genes at mar-a-lago in palm beach, florida, where donald trump is hosting a super tuesday watch party. and kristen, what is the trump team looking for this evening? >> well, jake, the trump team understands that he's not going to crocs that delegate threshold to become the presumptive nominee tonight, but they are hoping for two things. one, that he gets enough delegates tonight so that he can actually reach that milestone as early as next week to become the republican nominee. and two, that he wins by such a definitive margin that it puts pressure, your pressure on nikki haley to drop out. now, they're not waiting for that. they've already pivoted to the general election in tonight's contests are really going to give them some insight into where and how they spend their resources in a general election. one thing i want to point out, it's striking to me to see the last time i was out of political events in this very ballroom at mar-a-lago was when donald trump announced back in 2022 that was a very different time. almost nobody showed up. there w

kristen holmes joins us now with more details. kristen, did trump explain why he's in 15 weeks? >> well, bores, first of all, i think we're going to have to go back a little bit because i'm not quite sure i would use the word clarifying because every time donald trump goes to talk about abortion, he ends up saying some kind of vague, convoluted remarks that don't really agree to something, but also kind of say that he supports something. now when you talk about 15 weeks he essentially said that that's what most people are starting to agree to. the thing to point out there is that most people, if you look at polling, do not agree on a national abortion ban. in fact, particularly those voting groups like suburban voters and independent voters that donald trump will need in november to win an election against president joe biden. do not agree with this, but this was the farthest that we've heard. heard him go on this topic. take a listen to what he said >> the number of weeks now, people are agreeing on 15 and i'm thinking in terms of that and it'll come out to something that's ver

cnn's kristen holmes has been checking in on the team and is joining us right now. so what are you hearing, kristen >> yeah. >> i'm told that steam is going to be monitoring this, but donald trump himself is likely to not be watching. and that's because he's going to be on a plane this morning from florida to new york. he is going to be attending the wake of an nypd officer, jonathan diller, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this week, part of this is a trip because he wasn't by to the other part of this is going to be an opportunity for donald trump's team to try and contrast donald trump going to new york on this day visiting the family, seeing attending the wake of a fallen nypd officer. well, president joe biden and his rival in the general election is in new york, attending a, what they say is a glitzy fundraiser. now, when it comes to georgia, they are not having big expectations out of the hearing today. they say that they have known that these first amendment cases in the past have not been successful, but they do continue to remind the donald trump

and that is how they are spinning getting his decision to come out against that bill or kristen holmes. thank you. next to cnn's priscilla alvarez, who is with in the room for president biden's remarks. so what else did president biden say besides those comments directed to the former president? >> well going into today, the intention by president biden was to place more pressure on congress to pass that failed senate border bill because it was his white house officials and senate negotiators who worked to hammer out that compromise. so that is what the focus was for president biden today. and it was notable that he actually cited some republican talking points focusing on fentanyl cartels criminals in talking about the need for resources for the department of homeland security. so trying to make that direct connection that without that help, without that legislation, he can't get what the department needs to enforce the us-mexico border and he repeatedly said that it was quote, time to act, but it was notable of course that he did reference his predecessor sasser in his remarks becaus

and that's probably why he took this meeting on this day. >> kristen holmes, thank you. beyond just the former president , the entire republican party seems to have settled on the line that president biden politicized the state of the union last night, which to some extent is undeniable. but also not unique in modern times. perspective now, from adam kinzinger, former illinois republican congressman and new york times senior political correspondent. maggie haberman, congressman, i mean, some of your former republican colleagues are complaining it was too partizan for the hallowed house chamber. does that strike you as just kind of bizarre, given the prior administration and the behavior of people like marjorie taylor greene? >> yeah, absolutely. >> i mean, look, she wore a maga hat on the floor, violation of the house rules, as if she cares about that. >> she might be fined or warned. you think back to the president doing i forget which one thing it was, but he did like straight up campaign events at the white house. contrary to what's been done in the past. and this is

amara and danny all right kristen holmes. thank you very much joining us now, a cnn political analyst, seung min kim, good morning to sung-min. i was good to see you. i'm just curious what the reaction has been. just amongst lawmakers and people in the republican party. i mean, you heard there kristen holmes saying, look, it's unsurprising think because as we know, when my pencil is running for the republican nomination, he was critical of donald trump, but also in some ways it is a bit surprising, knowing just how unwavering his support for trump was up until january 6. and of course, this trend as well, where we've seen the rivals of trump all lining up against behind him >> right. i mean, i like to think of it as surprise. not surprising, but actually stunning. if you step back and think about the fact that this is a former vice president refusing to endorse his former boss. this is a longtime figure in the republican party that is refusing to endorse the republican standard bearer for the nomination, especially at a time.

let's start with kristen holmes. so kristen, what else did the former president? >> well, anderson, what do you took to the stage? you really repeated what we've heard pulling from a familiar playbook that he's been doing since 2015 when he announces first presidential bid and said that mexico was sending over drop bugs and rapists, he stoked fear and he used rhetoric linking immigration and violent crime. and this is something, again, that propelled him to the white house in 20 he's 16 and also really helped build a base that we now see that surrounds and props up donald trump. but today he's really trying to reach people outside of that base. he's hoping that this message is going to help them to the white house again in 2024 take a given that polling that we have seen that you mentioned, that shows that immigration is the number one issue for voters and the biden's approval rating on the issue is very low. hello, much lower than donald trump's was. but one thing he didn't bring up, despite the fact that he continued to say he alone could fix the border or that

we have cnn's paula reid and kristen holmes here with me. he and paula reid. what just went on in there is incredibly significant because the judge was essentially questioning todd blanche, who was trump's lead attorney here over this argument that they've been making about the discovery of these materials and was basically saying, well, used to be an assistant us attorney in the southern district of new york's office. you know how this works completely and you could have asked for these sooner but you waited. >> yeah. the judge clearly skeptical of the idea that somehow the district attorney's office is at fault or guilty of prosecutorial misconduct because the defense attorney did not subpoena these documents until january, but i want to stop you for just a second because while you were just talking our colleague, carrie chris canal reporting that an appeals court has ruled on this bond issue. we know the former president was he had to post over $460 million today. and we've learned that a new york court of appeals heels has given trump ten additional days t

he's hoping to one-up president biden's big fundraising haul tonight i want to bring in cnn's kristen holmes. kristen, what are you learning about an upcoming trump trump fundraiser? >> yan hearing from campaigns versus that they are expecting to erase more than 33 million. now obviously this is an enormous sum and we will be waiting to see what actually comes out of this fundraiser. it was one that we had reported on before. it's happening april 6 with some of the biggest names in the gop. and these are donors, many of whom had sat on the sidelines during the primary saying they didn't want to get involved. we're really trying to find an alternative to donald trump now, they are getting behind the former president that includes the mercer family, that includes oil tycoon, harold hamm as well as hedge fund founder john paulson among many others. now, again, this is coming from the campaign. it's also coming out on a night that joe biden and his team are saying that they plan to raise more than $25 million. so we will wait and as we get closer to this fundraiser to see if those numbers are ac

let's get right to cnn's kristen holmes kristen, what did pence say? >> well, this is both surprising and unsurprising at the same time, there was a lot of speculation as to what vice president for vice president mike pence would do when it came to donald trump because of their fraught history between both him being the vice president and the trump pence administration, and then also their breakdown over january 6, there was a lot of speculation that vice president pence mike just not say anything at all, but he in fact was unequivocally clear that he would not be supporting former president donald trump in this cycle. take a lesson >> donald trump is pursuing an articulating an agenda. but is at odds with the conservative agenda that we governed on during our four years. and that's why i cannot in good conscience endorsed donald trump in this campaign. >> somewhat interesting, given that, look at what exactly he's putting this on, say, and then donald trump is not a true conservative that he's putting forward an agenda that is not a true conservative

kristen holmes. thank you so much. let's discuss with cnn political and national security analyst, david sanger, david victor orban has become something of a darling of the maga, right what is the significance that he's coming to the united states? not asking for a meeting at the white house. the white house not offering an invitation but he's meeting with former president trump. >> well, if he got if he can, the united states the chances that president biden would want to see him are probably pretty small so or ban is, as you heard in in that good report, an authoritarian i would not say that he has the kind of widespread dictatorial powers that putin has. he has significantly repressed the media that would go after him he's a model that you've heard donald trump admire many times as he has admired putin. you'll remember that right after the invasion of ukraine, president trump's first statement was, well, this is an act of strength and so forth. it he didn't immediately react to the invasion of another country and go

arguing that donald trump is a threat to democracy let's get the view from florida and cnn's kristen holmes tracking this new phase of the campaign with the trump campaign. so kristen, what is donald trump saying about this now becoming official? >> well, let's go back to nikki haley's dropout speech because it was during that speech in which she said that she was not going to endorse donald trump, but really called on him to unite the party to bring people in saying that he needed to earn the votes of these republicans who are choosing not to support him, but instead sourcing her reporting her. now, he responded halfway through that speech, not even when she had finished and said this nikki haley got trounced last night and record setting fashion despite the fact that democrats, for reasons unknown, are allowed to vote in vermont and various other republican primaries much of her money came from radical left democrats, as did many you have her voters almost 50% according to the polls. at this point, i hope she stays in the race and fights it out until the end. i'd like to thank my family,

see this, kristen holmes is joining us with details. kristen, what do we know about the current talks involved? thing the trump team and manafort? >> well, we are told that manafort is being asked for at least in discussions to help with the republican national convention. now it's not clear exactly what he would do. one source telling me that it could be related to fundraising, but multiple sources adamant that nothing had been decided yet. they also tried to step away from the idea that he'd been the part of the official campaign, mostly just highlighting that he would be part of the reelection effort. now, again, just to note who paul manafort as he was one of a number of people who served as head of donald trump's 2016 campaign, albeit briefly before being charged with financial crimes later. and then as you noted, being pardoned by the former for president, and i am told that this is all being done at mostly the request of the former president who has said time and time again, he wants to bring manafort back in that he really likes

effectively merged operations with the rnc, putting loyalists to the former president in charge cnn's kristen holmes joins us now with her reporting. kristen. this tells you a lot about the focus of the rnc now as it's kind of merged into trump world. >> yeah. >> well, one, they're one in the same, so it's not even just merged at this point. they're operating seven actually, i'm gonna read a statement from someone who is both the rnc and trump campaign spokesperson. so goes to show you there, but it's not surprising that both the rnc and the campaign are putting a value on loyalty. loyalty is incredibly important to donald trump and part of that loyalty is sharing the same beliefs that he has and he has repeatedly said that he still believes the 2020 election was stolen. now, it's not that surprising that the rnc is turning its focus to what they call a lesh election integrity or a focus on election fraud, stay reminder that donald trump's handpicked candidate to run the rnc, michael whatley said he was going to focus on this. that is why donald trump likes him so much, because he thinks that whatle

let's bring in cnn's kristen holmes, who is here in the studio with us. kristen panic mode in trump world. what exactly does that mean? >> well, panic mode really applies to the bond here because that is where donald trump is trying to scramble constantly to figure out what he's going to do. and they really don't have any ideas how they're going to handle this and they are just four days away. now, when it comes to the campaign, they actually did see an increase in their fundraising but in the big picture, there is still significantly lagging behind joe biden. so let's take a quick look at those february fund raising numbers. if you look at that, trump's campaign plus the joint fundraising committee raised about 20.3 million. that means they'd $41.9 million cash on hand. now the increase comes in january. they only got $10.5 million, nearly doubling it there. but then you look at joe biden's numbers, $53 million, just in the month of february. and they have 155 million dollars cash on hand. we've talked to trump's advisers. they say he's the incumbent. we

cnn's kristen holmes is joining us now with more on all this. so kristin, could this be enough to help trump catch up and match biden's cash reserves >> well, look, we're going to see the actual impact of these fundraisers until the financial disclosures at the end of next month, but it does seem highly unlikely trump could actually catch up to biden in this short amount of time. i mean, by the end of february, biden's campaign had $71 million cash on hand. donald trump's campaign only had 33.5 million. now, if you just add what they got out of these major fundraisers, or what they're expecting to get biden would still have a significant lead here would be $97 million to $66.5 million. now of course, that does not include everything they are raising. it doesn't include any of those small dollar donations you're just talking about two significant fundraisers. one thing to note about that $33,000,000 number that came from the campaign. they say they are expecting to raise it, but obviously we're going to wait and see what happens. they they gave t
