also business strategist and best-selling author, carol roth and republican pollster, kristen soltis. who do you think won last night? >> i think joe biden won the debate. his mission was to go in, energize democrats, defend the president's record and challenge congressman ryan on some of the misrepresentations that they've made about obama/biden record and frankly, ask him for specificabout what they would do, this mystery tax plan and whose budget are they actually running on. i think he did all of that last night and did it really well. >> kristen, do you agree with that? >> no, but i think it's possible for republicans to really think their guy won and for democrats to really think their guy won. i don't think this is partisan spinning because both men went in with different objectives. joe biden went in with his objective being i'm going to heckle the republicans, and fire up my base. he did that. i think paul ryan said i have to go in and prove i can be vice president or presidentf the united states. i think there are no republicans out there complaining about his performance. i

charles blow, best-selling author [ inaudible ] and kristen soltis. welcome to you all. ingrich said to me earlier there are five words that will break obama. unemployment, gasoline, benghazi, and big bird. kristen, is he right? >> i think the four words are where are the jobs. it's four, not five. i think that's why you saw in last night's debate the whole thing was a bit like a shopping cart that's broken, it's got a busted wheel, so it always keeps kareening off to the left. it was a foreign policy debate but it kept coming back to domestic policy because that's the real central question in this election. >> you're a late convert to romney. recently came out for him. watching it last night, i thought he did okay. what i thought was he couldn't wait, every time he got the chance to get it back to domestic, particularly economic policy. that's his safe ground. he didn't drop any clangers with the foreign stuff but he just tried to twist everything back to where he thinks he can win. am i right? >> no. i mean, there's no question that he thinks his strong suit is domestic

joining me now two women who are likely to be an odds-on, maria cardona and kristen soltis. to you ladies. >> thank you, piers. good to be here. >> let's start with you, maria. i would imagine that although all the clear evidence points to women surging to mitt romney, you're not one of them. >> i am not one of them, piers. look, i'll say this. i'll say the same thing tonight that i have said when the president was up by a considerable amount with women, and when he was up with polls in general, and that is that a poll is just a snapshot of the moment. in this very close election, polls will be volatile, especially after last week's debate. but i think that what we need to take into consideration is what is going to happen from here on out. i guarantee you, piers, that democrats are going to continue delivering the message about mitt romney and the gop -- >> here's the problem. here's the problem. >> -- and the party that is not good for women. >> we all know what the message is. the problem is the guy has to deliver it on those stages for the debate. he blew it big time and

joining me is mtv news correspondent, andrew jenks and peter hambian and kristen soltis joining us. you have been visiting college campuses talking to young voters. what are you detecting in terms of enthusiasm this time around? >> i think there is a sense of this has been a bit of a bad breakup from four years ago, not necessarily with president obama, but just with government at large. so the sense of being disenfranchised, not as engaged, and that's been, you know, a bit disheartening but i think it's on us to ask questions, to make sure that our friends get involved, and i have seen as we've gotten closer to election day a lot of young people are starting to talk about it more, so i mean, that's been encouraging. >> kristen, in 2008, president obama won 66% of the under 30 vote, 34% margin of victory over john mccain. you say the president's numbers are high this time around but certainly not as high as 2008. >> not at all. you had a recent poll come out that harvard released where he had a 19 point advantage. it's still a wide margin but not nearly the margin that he had four y
