i'm kristen sze. >>> i'm terry mcsweeney in for eric thomas. we are following news in sunnyvale. investigators on the scene of an early morning house fire. the concern is the family who lives there is unaccounted for. katie marzullo is at the scene. >> reporter: it is a waiting game the scene isn't going to change until the sun comes up. you can see what we are seeing. the 911 call about the fire came in at 1:00 this morning. crews found the house fully engulfed in flames. it took more than an hour to knock down those flames. there is a family of four that lived inside, a mom, dad, maybe two elementary age kid there is are two cars parked in the driveway. the fire was so bad crews determined when they got to the scene that it was not a rescue . they to take down the fire first. now the damage is so bad they can't go inside to find out if the family was inside. here's what the battalion chief told us. >> we have concerns about the structural integrity of the building. we want to make sure it is safe for investigators to go in. once we have made sure the build is safe enough to go

. >>> and i'm kristen sze. two cases of mad cow disease highway health officials are trying if figure out how they -- they go it, one person died. >> reporter: officially it is called creutzfeldt-jacob disease and when you consider that it can incubate in the human body for years maybe decades according to the cdc, these people have a lot of work to do to try to figure out when these two victims got this disease. take a look at one of the victims of creutzfeldt-jacob this is 59-year-old aline shaw of san rafael executive director of love is the answer, a woman who dedicated her life to helping seniors. a public health nurse is telling family members she died of creutzfeldt-jacob, one form of that is mad cow disease. cows get it by eating contaminated feed, humans get it by eating those cows. there was outbreak in england in 1990 and shaw lived in england in 1990. you can get it contaminated medical instruments, heredity there's no known cause. take a look at what creutzfeldt-jacob does it causes a loss of brain

good morning i'm kristen sze >>> i'm eric thomas.y area ontician accused of shooting a custom's agent outside the agent's home will make his first court appearance. >> reporter: any time you hear of an officer being shot you wonder if it had to do with his line of with work. now it appears the suspect in this shooting and the victim may have had some personal connections. the chronicle is reporting that the suspect in the shooting knows the wife of the officer who was shot. dennis bagwell taught at an optician school and the wife was a student there the owner of the school tells the chronicle he has no reason to believe this is a love triangle situation. police say bagwell got in an argument with the custom's officer early tuesday morning in front of the officer's home. bagwell with was arrested hours after the shooting. both men are 61-years-old. the victim works at san francisco's airport an agent with the u.s. customs and border protection. police say they don't know why he was shot. they do have their theories but they are still

i'm eric thomas >> and i'm kristen sze. another california family has found bitter closure as authorities identify a second person in 1,000 bones found at a san joaquin county burial site revealed by a mass killer. katie marzullo is live with the latest on the so-called speed freak killings investigation. >> reporter: that second victim has been tentatively identified as a 16-year-old who disappeared from a high school in stockton in 1985. earlier in the search authorities 10 actively id'd a 25-year-old -- the family of 9-year-old michaela garecht of hayward is still waiting to find out if her remains are there. a total of 1,000 bones found since friday. >> the mood of our investigators and not only our investigators but we have personnel from the crime lab the doj crime lab as well as volunteers we have to send them home because they are determined to find as many remains as possible. >> reporter: wes shermantine led authorities to the spot calling it herzog's bone yard he said his partner loren herzog did the killing. her

. >>> and i'm kristen sze. are we at risk from dangerous gas lines? this morning pg&e says its pipes in the bay area are safe while its own workers tell they know some gas lines have potentially lethal flaws. terry mcsweeney is in san francisco. >> reporter: talking about the same pipeline to -- two different interpretations to how safe the pipeline is. which are the commissioners to believe? take a look at some of the pipe inspection in progress. we have pictures to show you of that. pg&e says that proves that 2,000 miles of pipe passed pressure testing this is pipe under urban areas they've been inspected and it is say pipes in rural areas are going to be checked out next. that is not the picture painted by two welders, members of the plumbers and steam fitters union. they say the welding they've seen is defective, substandard in one person's words, extraordinarily poor workmanship. one told the puc if this is representative of pg&e work he's not surprised by what happened in san bruno. take a look at what happened in san bruno in september of 2010.

good morning i'm kristen sze. >>> and i'm cheryl jennings. terry mcsweeney joins us from san bruno. >> reporter: a news conference is getting underway inside that room. san bruno city officials say they are beginning a campaign to get pg&e to come back to the negotiating tables and to resume negotiating in good faith. something that pg&e, the city says has not been doing. take a look at what we are talking about going back to september of 2010, the explosion in san bruno, a devastating impact on the city. eight people were killed, 38 homes destroyed, 70 homes damaged. the negotiations between pg&e and the city were not moving forward, according to the city. take a look at what san bruno says is happening this is what they are announcing right now. they say pg&e walked out on negotiations and they did that last week. the city says, it will join formal negotiations with the puc and teague to make sure that the city -- and pg&e to make sure that the city is fully compensated and there's a significant fine for pg&e. the city wants pg&e to fully f
