thanks for joining us for abc seven news at three, i'm kristen z. today's crash happened in marana, arizona, which is northwest of tucson. investigators say a cessna and a lancair propjet collided. it's unclear why two people were on board each of the planes. two died and two survived. their conditions, though, are unknown. according to the faa, the airport is an uncontrolled field. that means it does not have an operating air traffic control tower, and it is up to the pilots to communicate with one another when they're near the airport. the faa and ntsb are investigating the crash. of course, this is very different from a commercial jetliner. which brings us to this. we continue to follow the story of monday's plane crash in toronto. investigators are looking at snow and strong winds as possible factors causing that plane to flip over after landing. abc's perry russom is in washington with more. >> today, investigators analyzing this video of the plane crash in toronto as they search for the exact cause. the delta airlines plane flipping over after

thanks for joining us for abc seven news at three, i'm kristen z. this latest development in the menendez case happened a short time ago. earlier this afternoon, family members, they have been speaking out about how the brothers have worked on themselves while in prison and how they will contribute to society moving forward. erik and lyle menendez are serving life sentences for killing their parents in 1989. as we reported first yesterday, governor newsom ordered the state parole board to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment to determine if the brothers could pose an unreasonable risk to the public if they are released from prison. and today, their family says they are grateful. >> this is huge. i mean, this is huge, and i cannot thank governor newsom enough for stepping in and initiating this process. i we as a family, we understand that this is not without professional risk for him. so for him to step in and say, okay, let's let's actually find out if this is if this is doable, let's do a risk analysis and then we can move forward. it's a huge

thanks for joining us for abc seven news at three, i'm kristen z. we'll have all those stories coming up. but let's begin with developing news in oakland, a housing authority police department officer and a suspect are both in the hospital following a shooting overnight. this happened shortly before 1 a.m. near 85th avenue and g street. police say the officer was conducting a vehicle stop when the suspect opened fire, injuring the officer. the officer shot back, hitting the suspect. both are said to be stable this afternoon. investigators are looking into what happened in the moments before the shooting in hillsborough. police are still searching for a person they say shot a police officer on saturday. it happened in the back parking lot of the hillsborough police department. city officials tell us the officer survived the shooting because the bulletproof vest they were wearing at the time, the officer fired back and the suspect ran off. police say they interviewed a person of interest over the weekend, but they haven't made any arrests. they believ
