good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning, andrea. so often we hear these stories of eviction and foreclosure taking place across the country but it's very rare to actually see somebody's personal struggle literally spread out on the sidewalk for all to see and that's unfortunately what has happened this morning. take a look. these are all of louisa diaz's belongings. she's 50 years old from venezuela and her stuff is literalliy packed up four or five feet high fun walked with me over here take a look at this. it's not just one street, or one side of the street where this stuff is. it's spread out all the way down the street. look way down there. it spreads out for three more blocks this way and it's all being guarded by a d.c. police officer and the reason he's here is because we're awaiting some trucks to come and take all of her stuff away. louisa has been in the united states for 22 years. she's been in her home, which is just in that block right there. she's been in that home for 15 years. she hasn't had a job in two years but sh

kristin fisher has the latest information from the scene. >> you can see that all lanes on the marlboro pike are back open, but this section was shot down for seven hours this morning as crews work to clear all of the debris that came from this accident. and there was a ton of it. take a look at this. this is all that is left of the prince georges county ambulance that was involved in the crash. it literally looked like it exploded all over the roadway. what happened is shortly after midnight this ambulance was enroute to a call. it was traveling westbound on the marlboro pike with emergency lights on and sirens sounding, but somehow the driver of a suburban suv didn't see it. he was driving on the wrong side of the road going very fast when the accident happened. >> the ambulance saw it coming at the last moment, was able to swerve to the left in order to avoid a head-on collision. however, the suburban suv sideswiped the passenger compartment, right side of the vehicle of the ambulance causing catastrophic destruction of that particular unit. >> reporter: after striking the ambulance,

kristin fisher reports that we could have an answer sometime this week. >> reporter: well michelle rhee will return from vacation this week and when she does, she'll meet with vince gray about her future or lack there of as d.c. school chancellor. now her school reform was a major issue throughout the battle. supporters of michelle rhee and fenty credited them for making tough decisions to improve d.c. schools but opponents have accused her of alienating teachers and parents and critical of her firing 200 d.c. teachers for underperformance. michelle rhee said she didn't think she could work with gray. she called it devastating for d.c. students. as for gray, he hasn't said what to do with michelle rhee except that he will sit down with her at some point and that some point will likely be this wednesday. but whether or not any decisions will come from that meeting remain to be seen. here is what gray had to say during a press conference last wednesday. >> we're not going to make any personnel decisions until after the general election but i think it's important to begin the conversations

kristin fisher has more from the scene. >> i don't know how much i liked it until it was burning. >> reporter: cattle manager says he's in shock. the barn he ran at the livestock exchange is gone. the fire broke out at 8:00 on monday night. massive flames could be seen from miles away. it took firefighters from five counties to get the fire under control. 24 hours later, the remains were still smoldering. >> really traumatic to see something like that, especially when you have animals inside of it. it is pretty hard to look at. >> reporter: when the fire started, this barn was packed full of cattle. so this is where firefighters had to literally saw through the fence to get all of the cattle out. >> it's a miracle. we don't know how many died. we have gotten over 200 heads. >> reporter: at least eight cattle were dilled in the fire and there could be more. no people were inside but when firefighter was injured. >> transported to faulkier hospital with minor injuries and treated and released and now they are just starting the investigation portion now that it is lighter so they could

kristin fisher has the latest on the people affected.d morning, kristin. >> reporter: that's right. good morning. there were so many families affected by the fire. they are either staying with family members or put up in hotels by the red cross. in total three homes destroyed, eight more damaged. you can smell thick scent of smoke in the air as firefighters work to put out any hot spots. this fire started 3:00 yesterday afternoon. neighbors say they heard a loud bang and then they saw two houses quickly engulfed in flames. the flames spread to a third and fourth house. eight houses total. neighbors say it looked like dominoes falling. incredibly no one was inside the homes when the fire broke out. a few people did have to go to the hospital for smoke inhalation. for the most part everyone is okay. a few pets, furtherly. self cats and dogs were trapped inside of one of the homes. they were all killed. firefighters are trying to determine exactly what caused this fire. but the big problem they had when they were battling the blaze is the p

good morning, kristin. >> good morning. well, you know, what is going to happen to rhee?inant question in the wake of last week's democratic primary and now we know we could get an answer by the end of the day at the earliest. vince gray and michelle rhee will be meeting and sitting down today inside of the wilson building and meeting to discuss rhee's future in a gray administration. now both sides have already indicated that rhee's future with gray is shaky at best. the day after the primary rhee called gray's victory devastating for dc's children and yesterday wtop is reporting that gray said he would be open to considering rehiring at least some of the 266 teachers that rhee fired last october. it's hard to see how they could work well together but still gray has said he is not going to make any decision until he sits down face-to-face with rhee. but regardless of whatever is decided today or later than today, gray says he is committed to continuing education reform in the district. >> i am committed to continuing with aggressive education reform, having a fully empow

kristin fisher is joining us where it happened. do we know what happened? kristin? have investigator on the scene trying to answer that question. but here's the breakdown of exactly what happened. what we know at this point in time, there was answer ambulance traveling westbound on the marlboro pike going this way. and then you had an suv traveling this way. so they should be on opposite sides of the street. however, that did not happen. the suv was traveling on the eastbound lane and he swerved to the westbound lane and it was about to be a head on collision. at the last minute, the ambulance just swerved out of the way. the suv struck the back passenger portion of the ambulance. take a look at this video and you will see the after math that shows the ambulance completely -- that back cargo area completely. look like it exploded really scattering debris all over the roadway. as for the suv, it struck that back portion. it then hit a barricade, a concrete barricade and you pole and landed 120 feet from where it initially struck that ambulance on its roof. turnly as

good morning, kristin. how's it look? >> reporter: good morning, andy. the creek looks pretty good so far. we were driving out here an hour ago from northwest dc and the drive was very difficult. the amount of rain and the extent to which it was falling was very impressive. it took us a half hour longer to get here than it normally would because we were driving so slowly in order to see. this is going to impact drivers as they try to make their way to work this morning. now, as you said, andrea, i'm standing on a bridge, just over goose creek in loudoun county, just outside of leesburg. show you what the conditions look like. this is the creek and you can see as of 2:30 this morning, the height of the river was measured to be at 1.2 feet. not too crazy. nothing too bad. but flood stage for this river is 12 feet. you can see we have a long way to go before we deal with any big issues right here. it's not expected to get anywhere near that as of now. but you can see the river is definitely starting to churn down there. we have been watching as the rate of

what are you seeing, kristin? >> we are seeing more rain now. it has been stop and start throughout the morning. when i first saw you at 5:00 there was pouring rain and then 5:30 no rain. and now we are in between. if you look at the street light you can see how much rain we are getting right now. nothing too crazy whatsoever but certainly enough to have some sort of an impact on the morning commute if you are heading in to the washington, d.c. area from loudoun county. also take a look at this video that our photographer gregos shot earlier this morning, just outside of dulles airport. you can see the rain is really coming down strong right there. and that's what we have been worried about all morning long is the flash flooding. could that type of rain lead to flash flooding. and here and throughout much of the washington area we are under a flash flood watch until 8:00 this morning. right through the heart of the morning rush. so this is indeed going to continue to be a concern. for the most part, what i'm seeing right now here in loudoun coun

kristin fisher is live along goose creek in leesburg, virginia. how's it looking now?> it is actually looking a little bit better. strictly the sense the rain season coming down as hard as it was when we first got here a few hours ago. as for goose creek in loudoun county, just outside of leesburg, let's take a look at it. it is 1.6 feet. flood stage is 12 feet. we have 11 feet to go before we hit flood stage. no immediate concern there. the creek is expected to crest at 5.6 feet tomorrow at 4:00 a.m. no immediate dangers of flooding right here at this portion of the creek but farther downstream there are some lower lying areas, some homeowners and business owners along the creek are going to want to watch for that if the rain continues to fall at the same rate it has been falling. some people who are excited about the rainfall kayakers. we have seen a kayaker out here who's excited to get on the creek as the water starts to turn more. he will get in the water at 3:00 today and he was out here at 5:00 5:00 a.m. scouting it out and getting excited for what he hopes to b

today in the bay's kristin dahlgren has a look at how the bay area fares. kristin? morning, brent. we got an e-mail from the white house as the president announced a plan to recruit 10,000 engineering and math teachers over the next two years. clearly the white house really putting a focus on education. the president sits down with matt lauer this morning. it will be interesting to hear how he answers questions. he's the that set the goal of 60% of americans graduating from college by the year 2025. this new report from the lumina found as i for education said it falls fall short. 37.9% of americans graduate from college. the foundation said the current rate will only be up to 46.6% of americans holding an advanced degree. the u.s. has to increase the number of degrees they are handing out by 278,000 each year, every year between 2025 to reach the goal. when you look at california, it's right around the national average. 38.6% of adults in california have at least a two-year degree. the bay area faring better. san francisco county at 61.2%. a rare, rare county that

our kristin fisher brings us more. >> i don't know how much i liked it until it was burning. >> reporter: cattle manager lindsey easton says he's still in shock. the barn he ran is gone. the fire broke out around 8:00 monday night. massive flames could be seen from miles away. it took firefighters from five counties to finally get the fire under control. 24 hours later, the remains were still smoldering. >> it is really traumatic to see something like that, especially when you have animals inside it and it's pretty hard to look at. >> reporter: when the fire started, this barn was packed full of cattle, so this is where firefighters had to literally saw through the fence to get all of the cattle out. >> it's a miracle. we don't know how many died. we've gotten out over 200 head. >> reporter: at least eight cattle were killed in the fire and there could be more. fortunately, no people were inside when the fire started, but one firefighter was injured. >> transported to fauqier hospital with minor injuries, treated and released and now they are just starting the investigation portion now i

kristin fisher is live from annandale where some drivers had to be pulled from their cars. >> reporter: that's right. hey, jc. this is a classic example as to why you should never try to drive through standing water. you see the signs over here? it says roads closed. high water. that sign was put up -- fairfax county fire department says the stein was up up around 4:00 this morning. two hours later, around 6:00 a.m., someone either ignored that sign or didn't see it somehow. i'm not sure how you couldn't see that sign but either way they found themselves a quarter mile down the road. this is woodburn road in fairfax county and they found themselves trapped in their cars, stuck in two feet deep water. now, this water was coming from the creek, which had overrun its banks and had entirely flooded the roadway. well, fairfax county fire responded. the swift water team actually deployed two boats an they were about to use the boats to rescue the two people trapped inside the car. fortunately they never had to do that. two firefighters were able to get over to the car, open the door and get
