eyewitness news reporter kristin thorne is live if mount vernon with the latest. >> reporter: ken and lori, we've just learned that nelson mandela high school right over here is actually going to be closed for the day because they've had to shut off power to this entire area. i want to get right to news copter 7 high above so you can see what we're looking at here. you see all that smoke that is coming from this group of stores. that smoke is exactly the type of smoke we saw when we arrived here several hours ago. the fire started around 1:00 this morning, and it is still going showing no signs of easing. fire officials tell me they believe the fire started in the basement of the deli and spread laundromat, a pizza place, a dry cleaners. there was an adjoining apartment building and i say was because it is gone. that building completely collapsed about an hour into this fire going. here down on the ground you can see the type of destruction we're now looking at. thankfully no one was hurt. everyone got out of that apartment building okay, and none of the firefighters has been injured. we're live in mount vernon, i'm kris
