i want to talk with cresten welker and find out what she's been watching today. kristin i know you have been reporting from the white house, the president didn't have any public events planned for today. and we're hearing that these back door meetings have been taking place between democratic leaders and gop leaders. how many times are we saying that we know that they've talked? >> reporter: well, we know that they've been talking throughout the day. the president has been in close contact with congressional leaders on the hill as you know, he met with pelosi and reid a short while ago. we're trying to get some information out of that meeting, and all we're really hearing is that they're all committed to getting a deal done. a comment will come out and said they feel they're getting closer to a deal. the white house is saying the president does have his hand in this, as you know, a lot of people have been saying a lot of the action has been on the hill for the past several days, with the president making public statements yesterday. he's been quite busy behind the scenes
