let's get right to our meteorologist krystal klei tracking all ever it for us. >> yeah, totally different forecast our area to down south. look over texas, this is the radar view of what is hurricane harvey. as you mentioned, downgraded now to the category 2 after a category 4 landfall. and you can tell a bit by looking at the eyewall that is that little doughnut right in the middle of what we're seeing on radar, notice how it's pinching into it a close because it's weakening. warm waters fuels it, so once it gets over land, it starts to weaken. but it is a very dangerous situation as it continues to spin just to the north of corpus christi. it made landfall near rockport, texas. and then a second landfall over copano bay. and now it's churning over the coastal area through at least wednesday. this is when the devastation comes into play. because when it dumps rain that long, not only are we looking at dangerous storm surge, but also dangerous conditions as we continue with all of the rain. and here is a look at the new projected path. right now, through your sunday, we are looking at pre

krystal klei has you covered with the most accurate forecast in town. >> yeah, big difference in our forecast. this is the view over texas and you can see hurricane harvey still looking very powerful as it's now made landfall about 11:00 our time just to the northeast of corpus christi. you can see that it's weakening some because if you look at the center, this is called the eyewall, it was bright orange completely wrapped around to now more yellow. you also see that it's a little smaller hole right at the center. that is because the wall itself is starting to clapgs. a collapse. and that is a good sign. but the problem is that the storm will sit in this area with no forcing mechanisms to move it out it looks like for at least a handful of days. some models have it sticking in this area through the end of our next workweek which will mean dangerous amounts of rain across the area. right now the storm has sustained winds at 100 miles per hour. coming up, we'll talk more about some of the updated conditions and ild bring you your local forecast as well. >>> hurricane harvey is poundin

"hurricane" schwartz is watching the cool temperatures headed our way. let's start it off with krystal klei. >> i have to be the bad news. let's lock at pennsylvania. it's a pretty pick now. blue sky overhead, but this picture is going to cloud up with storms moving through as we get into tonight. not everyone is going to get storms across our area. even in the shaded yellow area, it may be more spotty storm activity. but a storm or two may turn severe. which is why we issued the first alert. a severe thunderstorm watch was just posted. we put it out yesterday to warn you currently, we are clear. an isolated chance for a thunderstorm to roll through. here's that line of storms. this is a cold front firing off a lot of lightning just to the east of pittsburgh. and it's this area of storms that's moving our direction. but it still has a ways to go, which is why the forecast is more so overnight, not in the next few hours. here's the timing looking at 9:00 by reading. and philadelphia ho

krystal klei is here with your most accurate neighborhood forecast. good morning. >> good morning, ted. what a stark contrast between down south and our forecast. we'll start with what is now tropical storm harvey. this was hurricane harvey yesterday. it's now downgraded to a tropical storm. it's still massive. the center of the storm indicating most of the action sits to the east of the storm's center. look at these rand bands just pounding into houston where some of the heaviest rain is moving through. i can tell you looking through reports from the last 24 hours around the houston area, many places now at a foot or some spots around a foot and a half of rain already accumulated. this is the area today that is probably going to see the worst results of harvey because of all the rain that is to come. they could still see another foot to two feet as we continue through the next several days. here's a live look at tropical storm harvey. now at 45-mile-per-hour sustained winds. 39 miles per hour and above is considered a tropical storm. still within the

first alert meteorologist krystal klei is here with your most accurate neighborhood forecast. hi, krystal. >> we'll start with tropical storm harvey. here's the radar look. you can see the center of the storm now sits south of austin, but the arm bands are the big issues now. we talked about this issue, the storm surge and winds yesterday were a big issue. today and for the next several days, all about the heavy rain that is just pounding the houston to galveston area. these are the areas that i think will see the most devastation due to how much rain has fallen already in some areas. about 20 inches of rain have fallen over the houston area. with a possibility of two more feet in the days to come. let's look at the storms' path. the newest projection for tropical storm harvey. you see the winds are sustained at 45 miles per hour, but the issue is it's only moving at 1-mile-per-hour. here the track as it goes to monday overnight. this is 1:00 a.m. barrie moves to the south. and brushes up against the coastline for tuesday with winds still at about 35 miles per hour. that will d

krystal klei is tracking harvey and our neighborhood forecast. krystal. >> stark difference between our forecast and the forecast in southeast texas. this is a look at radar right now over the area. look at the yellows, oranges, reds. that's the heaviest rain. i can tell you, it has been in this exact same spot for hours and hours straight. now, storm totals reporting over 20 inches in some spots around houston, with another 15 to 25 inches possible to fall over the next several days. which does suggest some areas could be near four feet of rain totals for just this storm by the time it does come to an end. the problem with it is the very little movement that we're experiencing with tropical storm harvey. only moving right now one mile per hour. and stuck in the same spot, continues to bring heavy rain to the same location. in our neighborhoods, a very different forecast. 68 degrees right now in philadelphia. 69 in millville. lancaster at 64. very nice, comfortable start to the morning. if you look at our satellite and radar, you see just some sca

we check in again with first alert meteorologist krystal klei. your neighborhood weather and the heartbreaking situation continuing to unfold in texas. krystal? >> yeah, this is a look at tropical storm harvey. the radar return most recently updated. the center of the storm that's right behind my hand, to the east of the storm that these arm bands wrapping through, taking the energy from that warm gulf water and shoving it right over houston they have been getting absolutely pounded with heavy rain all night long. reports now throughout the houston area are above 20 inches in total so far with potentially another 20 inches more. take a look at one computer model storm track. this is through tomorrow morning. exact same area getting pounded. then tomorrow morning through tuesday morning, still the same area getting pounded. then from tuesday morning through wednesday morning, yet again, still the exact same area with the heaviest rain. it's not until thursday that it appears that most computer models are agreeing the hurricane or rather the tropica

first alert meteorologist krystal klei is here with a nice looking sunday forecast. hi, krystal. >> that's right. let's not worry about it quite yet. we have nice conditions out there this morning. although it's a little cool, you may grab a light jacket if you're not a fan of the 50s because we're in the 50s in potstown to allentown, trenton, mt. holly, atlantic city. a few in the 60s. millville at 60, wilmington, 61. in philadelphia right now, 63 degrees. these temperatures will be bumping up, though, just like yesterday. talking low 80s for high temperatures in many locations. and today, the humidity stays low. just scattered clouds in place this morning. those scattered clouds will continue in and out throughout the afternoon hours but they do not bring any rain. we stay dry for today. but just for today. look to our west. you see stormy weather already brewing. and that's moving our direction. it's going to kind of pull in with the warm fronts that pass our area, and that means the possibility of periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms across the area. for today,

krystal klei is tracking that stormy weather still moving through the region. >> yeah, but if we have to have stormy weather, the best time to have it is in the early morning hours and the rest of the day will look better. all the yes, ma'am lllows and r starting to move offshore. still in parts of atlantic county and about to move into cape may county. and then on the back side, spottylingering. but moving through harrisburg and the berks county, it's starting to thin out and we'll see mostly sunny conditions by this afternoon. there is a look at the back end of the rain. not as heavy as it was. trenton down to washington township. little breaks and then you get the heaviest rain along the shore. so as we go through parts of atlantic county to corbin city, clipping into that tip of cumberland county and then moving into parts of cape may county here in the next half hour or so. and there is the heaviest starting to move offshore. remember i said ship bottom you'd be in the clear soon enough? there you go, starting to clear out. so things are look better than they were. right now our

nbc 10 krystal klei joins us live. the next one is seven years from now? >> caller: yeah.hat's right. let's talk a little bit about history and what we are looking forward to in the future. if you are a little disappointed you didn't see the total eclipse here in philadelphia, no worries. wait around a while and we will have one. let's go over the dates and the last solar eclipse, that was in february of 1979. the last coast to coast solar eclipse, a great american eclipse, that was almost 100 years ago. back in june of 1918. so this is really a once in a lifetime event we experienced here in america today. now let's pop up the map we have. the map itself might be chaotic seeing it with the yellow lines across the country and guide you through this. first off, the next solar eclipse throughout the united states. that's april 2024. like keith said. that goes from texas up to maine so you see that line there. that's april of 2024. and then the next coast to coast solar eclipse. that will be august of 2045. and you can see that, somewhat similar path to what we experience or

first alert meteorologist krystal klei is tracking harvey, and she also has our neighborhood forecast. >> yeah, it's hard to look at this imagery because it's the same picture we have been seeing all of our morning hours. the problem with that is these heavy bands of rain, the armbands of tropical storm harvey, well, their just stuck right over the houston area. as a result, these are the areas that are dealing with catastrophic life-threatening flooding this morning. the center of the storm is to the south of austin. you can see there, so all the eastern half that's getting the major impacts. this is going to be the biggest problem, the one that goes down in history books. the flooded associated with the never ending rain that's in sight as we move forward. the problem is, like i mentioned, this system has been stuck in the same spot all night long. it's moving about 45-mile-per-hour sustained winds, but the actual movement of the storm center itself, only 1-mile-per-hour, meaning it's really not moving, so this area is under a major flood threat. check out the projected pathway as w
