ktvu's robert handa told us what he learned about the officers. first to ktvu's alex savage with new details and telling words about the suspect from his own father. >> reporter: well, even the father calls his son a ticking time bomb and today the sheriff said the two police officers -- police officers who were killed were unknown how dangerous jeremy goulet could be when they went to his house here yesterday, part of an investigation into a sexual assault allegation brought by one of his co-workers. the two police officers never even made it inside jeremy goulet's house. today the sheriff said the 35- year-old ex gone gunned them down and stole their weapons. >> it is our belief two of the three weapons he possessed belongs to the police department but we haven't confirmed that. >> reporter: after killing the officers jeremy goulet stole one of their police cars. but he returned to his neighborhood and that is where he was killed with a shoot out with police. the sheriff said investigators are learning more about just how troubled he was. distra

nurses tell ktvu they be been concerned over their safety on the job.u's claudine wong investigates the security challenges facing all hospitals across the nation. >> reporter: an inmate escaped in oakland. couple weeks ago, workers were attacked. two years ago he held a worker at gun point. highland emergency room nurses upset with the management contacted ktvu recently. after a loaded gun was found on a patient. one said administrators don't work with the patients, it is not going to effect them till one of us gets shot njured or -- shot, injured or killed. they say with patient loads at record levels security is a challenge and says it is a national problem. >> the world is changing. hospitals as a whole have to look at how they provide security for their employees and patients. but also maintaining speed of service. >> reporter: a 2011 study by the emergency nurses association found the problem is getting worse. 3/4 of nurses who are victims, said they got no response from their hospitals. they represent nurses at sutor and kaiser hospitals. >> ther

ktvu's david stevenson joins us live from the scene.understand there are injuries. >> reporter: that's right. they have just started moving the cable car out of the way, cable car 25. it's an active investigation going on right now with muni workers and the san francisco police department investigating what went wrong with cable car 25 that sent passengers to the hospital. take a look at this video. this happened at about 10:18 this morning. police say the packed cable car was proceeding down powell street. it had just crossed washington street when it stopped short, slamming passengers and crews into windows and each other. one passenger was ejected into the street. >> the cable car was coming down here southbound and it had about 50 passengers on board. when it hit a bolt in the middle of the roadway, it stopped the car dead. we lost one person off of the vehicle, female fell off, hurt her leg. >> the people crashing into each other, and then i, i, i hear scream. >> reporter: that was one of a number of tourists riding on the cable ca

the ktvu special report.ok a look at the controversy surrounding domestic drones in our country. last thursday seattle police abandoned the idea of using drones after a lot of public opposition. on thursday they will consider drones for their share of the department. some people are even building drones in their homes for personal use. but that is a lot of people concerned about privacy. the aclu has opposed unrericketted law enforcement drones and right now they are -- unrestricted law enforcement drones. >>> justin timberlake returned to the stage at the grammy's debuting his new single with the help of jz. ktvu tara moriarty is right there.e are releasing new information about the suspected gunman. tara. >> reporter: yes. and the officer is a five-year veteran of the force. he is doing extremely well. he is at the police station after having been to the hospital. meanwhile investigators are still here on the scene. we are at santa fe and maple streets where around 11:30 last night gunfire erupted and two officers approached the suspect. when he saw them he ran off and then turned fired his gun and striking one of the officers. the officers returned fire and struck the suspect. the suspect is expected to survive. he is a 30-year-old oakley man with extensive record on drug and weapons charges. investigators have secured the crime scene. they will come through it again once the sun comes up. >> we have an extensive crime scene. one thing i look at is how many shots were fired. we have evidence over there. it's an active crime scene that in sense there is a lot of evidence there. and we're going to take our time to make sur

ktvu john sasaki is live with more on how the suspects got into the house.ternoon. >> reporter: hey tory on the door to this home you can see how this shocking crime began. there is a shoe print next to the doorknob where one of the shooters kicked in that door. here is a view from chopper 2 hours after it happened. this morning two men broke into the home there. three people home, a woman and two of her children were all shot. the son was hit in the face, his mother in the hip and his sister shot in the hand. fortunately all three expected to survive their injuries. the family though is in shock. as yet police don't know what prompted this attack. >> at this point there is nothing to indicate that this was specifically targeted. there are no indications of that. so we are treating this as a random act. >> there was a burglary up the street a couple of months back but the people weren't there and nobody got hurt. but this one, this is crazy. i just don't understand it. >> reporter: the two shooters are described vaguely as one latino man and one african amer
