ktvu's henry lee reports.ber of these shootings is adding up. >> reporter: and there's no end in sight. no one was hurt in these back to back incidents overnight. but there have been 53 freeway shootings in contra costa county since 2015. more car-to-car shootings on the freeway, but instead of feuding gangs, the shooters were upset over perceived satellites behind the -- slights behind the wheel. the first shooting happened about 9:45 wednesday night on northbound 680 near treat boulevard in walnut creek. but it wasn't reported until later. >> the victim was driving and got into a road rage altercation, it appears this time, with another vehicle. the other vehicle first threw bottles at him. then the victim's rear window shattered out. he initially thought the vehicle was struck by a bottle and broke the window so he drove home. about 11 p.m. at night he discovered a bullet fragment in his vehicle so he called us and said his vehicle was shot on the freeway. >> reporter: our traffic cameras caught the backup

ktvu, fox 2 news.ghout the evening hours, so accumulations by the morning hours will be up to three quarters of an inch of rain in some places, maybe an inch to an inch and a half in the east bay or north bay hills around marin county. but the morning commute will be wet. servely wet on the roadway and certainly southbound certainly wet on the -- certainly wet on the roadway and from the sky. no yellows of oranges because the dynamics of the rain aren't here yet. the strongest part of storm doesn't really arrive until saturday morning about 3:00 to 40:00 in the morning -- 4:00 in the morning. there's the live camera shot of the toll plaza, and that's how it's going to look tomorrow except with cars. wet, and i suspect a very similar rainfall rate for tomorrow morning. because the rain will last through saturday around lunchtime, there's a flash flood watch in effect. the burn areas obviously the biggest concern for the bay area, but also up in the hills around auburn and the west slope of the sierra ne

ktvu's alex savidge in our ktvu newsroom to tell us more about what we know this morning about the man that was arrested tuesday night. >> reporter: lots of new details coming to light this morning. the former police officer and vietnam veteran had been living in his suburban sacramento home with his wife and adult daughter until authorities swooped in earlier this week and took him into custody. investigators are saying it was dna evidence that led them to deangelo but they are not being any more specific than that. authorities, though, are confident deangelo is the man who terrorized communities across california during the late 1970s into the mid 1980s. the crimes began first in the sacramento area, the attacker originally dubbed the east area rapist. over the years there were home break-ins, rapes and murders in the bay area and southern california, all linked to the same man through dna that was collected at those various crime scenes. last week a task force newly focused on this case zeroed in on deangelo for some reason. investigators tested dna samples from items he threw away

jesse gary, ktvu fox 2 news. back to you. >> what do we know, if anything, about the suspect? do we know where he works? does he have a criminal history? do and his wife have children? >> reporter: i asked the questions about his history as far as why he was on the peninsula since he does live in richmond and investigators say they don't know. they haven't -- still an ongoing investigation. they haven't really, um, figured out exactly what brought him to this side of the bay all the way from richmond or at least from the oakland area. as far as children, didn't get into that with his wife. just trying to find out if she wanted to make any kind of statements on his behalf and if perhaps he wanted to talk and all she would say again is that she believes the police have the wrong man and that he is not guilty. >> jesse gary, thank you. >>> we have a tragic update to a hit-and-run crash last night in oakland. a 9-year-old girl has now died from her injuries. three other people in that car were also hurt. our crime reporter henry lee is live now at the oakland police department. he

ktvu leigh martinez has the story. >> reporter: officers say the two shootings are not connected. however, both were motivated by road rage. around 11:00 last night, shots were fired at a vehicle traveling east on highway 4 near concord. it was near port chicago highway and the willow pass road off ramp. the car that was shot at drove to antioch before stopping. chp towed the car back to the chp office and here you can see bullet holes on the side. this was the second road rage shooting chp investigated. earlier at 9:45 p.m., chp was called for a shooting that happened on northbound 680 near treat boulevard. >> the vehicle threw bottles at him. and then the victim's rear window shattered out. so he drove home and then about 11:00 at night he discovered a bullet fragment in his vehicle. so he called us and said his vehicle had been shot in the freeway. >> reporter: the two shootings are not related. chp has not made arrests in either incident yet and the office is not releasing suspect descriptions at this time. >> it is getting a little tiring people taking out their aggression on
