ktvu tom vacar giving us the very latest from malibu tonight in southern california. tom, we appreciate the support right now. also, firefighters are working to protect homes and neighborhoods that still remain threatened inland closer to pasadena. but for other neighborhoods, this firestorm just too much and leveled homes. ktvu zac sos arrived on scene late this afternoon in the area of altadena, and shows us some of the damage from the eaton fire. >> we are at the eaton fire in altadena, some 10,600 acres now burned. 0% containment they have around, i'm told 700 more than 700 firefighters working on this. and they are certainly facing their challenges right now. everywhere you look, really another fire popping up. these are the type of spot fires they really can't do anything about. these fires get put out. they come back up with the wind. just a few minutes ago down there. you can probably make it out just in the distance. that is a bank of america. it was fully engulfed with flames, probably just about 15, 20 minutes ago. the firefighters arriving trying to do the

>> the 11:00 news on ktvu. fox two starts now. >> hello again i'm greg lee. let's get right to our top story. tonight a wildfire emergency in los angeles county this evening. several wildfires are burning, forcing thousands out of their homes. one fire burning in the city of altadena, north of pasadena. another in the pacific palisades neighborhood just north of santa monica. and the la fire department confirmed another fire has broken out in sylmar in the san fernando valley in just the last hour. the palisades fire first broke out about 1030 this morning and has now burned nearly 3000 acres. an estimated 30,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders, with impacted communities stretching from malibu to santa monica. structures have already burned and tens of thousands are under threat. firefighters are not planning to hold another press conference until 8:00 tomorrow morning. around 40 miles east of there is the eaton fire, which is 400 acres with 0% containment. a crew from our sister station captured this jarring video of flames surrounding a street

we'll head to ktvu. tom vacar live with this breaking report, tom costello notes here. >> so i want to get right to them now, sometime after 10 a.m, a person was stabbed. apparently some sort of an altercation occurred at the entrance turnstile of hayward, bart, where one person who did not pay was confronted by another person who did pay. that resulted in one person being stabbed. bart police as well as hayward police responded, but the assailant or assailants had already departed. we're told that two people had been detained, possibly at the south hayward station. all of this needs to be put into perspective. however, the latest numbers from bart police department show that at the end of august, overall crime in the system was down 15% compared with the same period in 2023. the trend includes a 10% drop in violent crime. the decline in crime rate comes as bart has been experiencing an increase in ridership now. the station reopened at about 11 a.m, but immediately closed thereafter because the crime sc

i'm mark sayer, ktvu, fox two news. jana, back to you. >> and mark, real quickly, you had mentioned that 45 day window. is there any indication as to exactly when they might be putting this lawsuit into into the courts? >> well, that is as soon as they can possibly do it. the county does have an option in cases like this. and this is a formal process, by the way, that occurs. if you sue any government agency anywhere in california, you have to give the government agency notice and lay out some of the case of what you're planning to do. so if the county decided to settle this in some way, they could do that before a lawsuit is filed. but as you heard from the statement from the county there, they believe everything here is baseless and they plan to fight it in court. so 45 days from the filing date, which was december 19th, would be as soon as an actual lawsuit could be filed in court. jenna. >> all right. the situation continues to have its twists and turns marks here down in the south bay. thank you so much. a local fo

that's where we find ktvu tom vacar tonight.ho's been on scene there now for a good 24 hours, tom? >> well, my guess is that they're probably going to find some more bodies in a number of these fires simply because they're so overwhelmed by the fire itself that they really haven't had time to thoroughly search for things now. most of the people will be accounted for because they will have either called friends, and then they won't have people asking for welfare checks and all of that kind of stuff. but my guess is that they're going to find more, because this is such a large fire, and there's so many homes that were taken down as much as we saw in coffey park, and certainly as we saw in paradise. now behind me, i want to show you something. this is a very large building, a condo, an apartment house, something like that, just off of sunset boulevard in in palisades here. and you see up to the upper left hand corner of that, you see a kind of an orange glow. might you might think that would be like some sort of embers or something
