it was headed from kuala lumpur to beijing. a new report showed that the cap captain and crew showed no odd behavior before the flight took off. cnn is covering the story all around the globe today with our correspondent whose have been following it from the very start. joining me now is anna coren in kuala lumpur and our reporter from beijing. what does the report show? >> reporter: we are getting information about those first hours, days that the confusion, if you like in this search for mh 370. it is pretty much consistent with what we already knew, but we getting sort of blow-by-blow minute by minute as to how this all unfolded. you make reference to that new bit of information about the pilot and the crew on board mh 370, saying that there were no behavioral changes. they've looked at sensitive footage of the crew and captain on three previous trips and found that there was nothing different in their behavior. they certainly didn't seem seem stressed. there were no financial or personal issues that could have led to the ca

anna is in kuala lumpur with more on this. the report is striking in its di tail and simultaneous lack of any new leads into this aviation mystery. what exactly do we know today? >> yeah look you touch on that battery that had expired in the flight data recorder. that seems to be the glaring error that has come out of this report. however, experts are saying you know it doesn't necessarily suggest that that hindered the search. the reason i say that is because the battery was still operating in the other black box, the cockpit voice recorder. it certainly suggests there was a failure in the maintenance of this particular equipment. the report also gives us a blow-by-blow idea as to what was happening in the air traffic control tower and the confusion that was taking place. obviously, once the plane went missing, no one knew really what was going on. you can understand the level of confusion, but there are emergency protocols to follow and it would appear they weren't followed hence the delay in finally getting that search and

david mckenzie is in beijing for us and anna is in kuala lumpur. richard, you've been looking at this report. what does it tell us that we didn't already know before? it tells us everything and it tells us nothing. it sort of clears mysteries up. for instance the question about the pilot's health. it makes it quite clear that the captain was neither anxious, nor depressed, nor was his home life collapsing and that he didn't seem to be under stress and was handling life well. same for the first officer. it tells us the plane was maintained properly the oxygen supply was working correctly. and it tells us substantially that everything that we've already known about it is now confirmed. we've got great detail about how this flight progressed. what we don't have is anything -- and i mean anything -- about what happened or where the plane is. but isa, if you want to know where the real scandal in the report is this is it. these are blow by blow air traffic control logs from the night. more than 120 pages -- beg your pardon. more than 250 pages of logs.
