maria kumar, our long time friend, especially on these election nights, maria theresa, it's great tos been explaining them but also what you're hearing on the ground in georgia tonight. >> so i have to share, rachel, a collective sigh of all of america holding tightly trying to say, what is going to happen. it's hard to believe but i feel like we have these election nights together, and it hasn't stopped since 2016. bear with me. what i mean by this, though, is that the reason we're talking about georgia is because of the massive demographic shifts that we're seeing that didn't simply exist in 2016. in fact since 2016, we've seen an increase of 25% in registered african-american voters and an 18% increase in latino votes, most of them coming of age. that has resulted in organizing, organizing, organizing across the board. you're seeing a lot of organizations coming from the democratic party outside of the state coming in. but you have a lot of great on the ground networks that have been doing this because they see the demographics. and they also see the need to participate, because t

christina greer at fordham, david corn, mother jones bureau cheese and maria teresa kumar. we feel like we've turned a corner. we have a president who reads and believes in science and has a historic day for kamala harris and her family. still very unsettled by the events of january 6th, by the past four years, by the 74 million people who wanted more of donald trump's policy, rhetoric and behavior and so as we think about the shadow of insurrectionists and domestic terrorism, that's still very real, very happy that january 20th went off beautifully and it showcased the best of america. but i still have a lot of emotions if i'm trying to process as we move forward as a nation helping families who need economic assistance from the government. and really thinking about how joe biden will negotiate with the senate, slim margins and republicans who by and large are still talking about conspiracy theories and that the insurrectionists are some young guys who got caught up in the moment. i still don't think a lot of republicans understand the threat to democracy that they still p
