i bet they know "the hate you give" by andy thomas, any of the books by kwame alexander, sharon draper jason reynolds. there are so many great books being published these days by writers, by writers of color, by women of color, by african-american women, and i think if you want to start all of my books, all of the writers i mentioned, all of their books are at the public library, which i'm a huge fan of public libraries. all of the books are available as audio books so that if you are driving a lot and you don't have time to read a book, "brown girl dreaming" i read the audio book so they can actually hear it the way i intend it for it to sound. "harbor me" is another one. with "harbor me" my daughter has a role in the book. at the end of the book, my son and i have a conversation about the book. so listening to the audio book will give you a sense of kind of what the book is and in it, you will probably be able to hear if it's something that urining people would like. but i think it's really important to make them aware of all of these great authors who are getting published and doing
