kron 4 meteorologist kyla grogan is here with a look your forecast. hey there. yeah. i wanted to start with how chilly was this morning. those clear skies kind of come with a little effect. a very chilly temperatures. we don't have the cloud cover out there. we got down to 36 in santa rosa in petaluma. sonoma also made it down to 36 degrees. you can see upper 30's and walnut creek. 41 in livermore and just give a comparison here. oakland sfo, those airports got down to the mid 40's. so it was definitely a good morning. but a chilly morning can see my camera is kind of this disturbing. the why there we see the blue skies. that is a live look from the east bay and oakland right now that 57 degrees wind out of the west, very light to set of 7 miles per hour. so it's a pretty nice day out there. and as we take a look at temperatures right now, san francisco, 55 for all kind of sitting in those mid to upper 50's and a lovely day on tap. so something to look forward to this afternoon. if you're out and about the reason this is happening as we have a little bit of a ridge th

meteorologist kyla grogan here now with the forecast. we're looking out.h, the universe is giving us gorgeous weather this week. no doubt about and, you know, we did get rain. obviously we need to get more in and it's just not in the cards for us right now. >> take a look at the jet stream. you can see the all the snow happening in the upper midwest heading into the ohio valley and then right across the great lakes there. that's where the jet stream is takin a dive down. but we are kind of under the guise of high pressure here and that is shooting any weather over the top of us. so obviously, when you get that jet stream taking a dive, you get this really pronounced cold air that rolls down. and i had to look at that twice. just now. 29 right now in nashville. atlanta. i lived in atlanta for a few years. that is cold for atlanta. you see that places like new york, boston as well. and then you head to chicago right now. it's 25 degrees. obviously very different for us here on the west coast where we are benefiting from above average temperatures because tha

as we talk about our forecast now with meteorologist kyla grogan.ce and dry for this time of year. yeah, it's been beautiful. i mean, it's been gorgeous. we talked about fact that we like to get some rain in there, though. but let's talk about this beautiful skies you can see in san jose as we take a live aplook and we are enjoying some really nice weather. that is not the case for a good part of the country where it is just crazy cold. the polar boy to tax is happening. it's been dragging all this cold air down really far to the south where that jet stream is come all the way down and tomorrow night is going to get very chilly. we're talking teens in a spot like nashville, 20's in a spot like atlanta, not to mention the places like chicago, which are further to the north. it's also going to get really interesting because this is precipitation and tomorrow night it's going to move in that way towards that cold air lived in atlanta when we got a big snow storm. it is not pretty. i'm here to tell you, obviously there's also a snow happening in the gre

meteorologist kyla grogan here with those details and also the snow. walking in a winter wonderland over here at half dome in yosemite. i thought i pull this up just to show you that this year is definitely heading some snow. really beautiful out there right now. now the question for those of you might be headed that way is can i still go up there? your window is closing very quickly. so you can see a little snow here as we take a look at diamond peak and they're going to see more of that as we get into the evening. 35 degrees there right now. by the way, winds out of the south so that southerly flow is happening about 10 miles per hour. so they are under a winter storm warning, as you can see that kicks in today at 1 o'clock and goes through 10 o'clock tonight that we're going to see some of that heavier snow. i'm sorry, 10 o'clock on saturday that we're going to see some of that heavier snow that's going to be coming down. so the reason i say the window is closing as it's already starting. and as we look as we get into this afternoon, you see it kind

so we're going to start now with our meteorologist kyla grogan who is tracking our forecast. hey there. definitely good advice to slow down and it's going to be a little bit tricky as we get to the evening. but things will continue to improve. and then tomorrow is looking pretty good. right now, though. >> as we take a live look here, normally, you know, we could see a lovely view of the transamerica pyramid. >> today we see raindrops and cloud cover and that's about it. we've had quite a bit of rain. the last 24 hours over 1.2 inches in santa rosa, middle valley not far behind that. at 1.1, 4, just under half an inch in oakland and you can see in dublin about half an inch redwood city little over 10, san jose, a little bit less than that. we're under a 10th in the south bay still getting some of that rain that's coming down right now out, whereas the north bay things are starting to clear out, as you can see in this loop of the last 3 hours. we'll take you down right now into the south bay. and again, you can see where even san jose just getting a little bit of a light showe

and meteorologist kyla grogan is tracking that now. yeah, but i wanted to start just to talk about what happened in case anyone didn't have those details. you can see where this was. it was about 50 miles southwest of eureka, the depth about. >> half a kilometer and it was a 7 point. oh, at 10. 44 this morning we talked about how we have several plates that come together here and these kind of quakes, these bigger quakes tend to happen in the subduction zones where you get them kind of pushing under the continent. as we look at this, you can see where this was. but now i want to take you to what's been happening since then. so this was where the 7 point, oh, was that you see how many aftershocks there have been. and it has been so many that i couldn't even possibly point them all out. but just to point out a few at 2.14, we had a 2.6. and then if we go to a little bit before that, we go to 02:10pm. we had a 2.3. so there's a lot of activity there. a lot of action around this very large earthquake, which on the one hand, is not surprisi

kyla grogan here to lay it all out for us. kyla into great finally. this is the rain we pick up the point rays got almost an inch of rain can see about 3 quarters of an inch in oakland. >> union city came in over a half an inch san jose just over half an inch. so this is really widespread across the bay area. half moon bay just under half an inch and san francisco just over 4 tenths. this is what it looked like as it rolled through last night as it came through quickly. and we had wind associated with and then it rolled right up to the sierra and that's where the snow is happening. still right now, you can see as we take a look, things have certainly calmed down now. are there tiny little dots on the radar? yes. are they likely hitting the ground? know? we're pretty much done. we're pretty much wrapped up here as we take a look in the east bay and now up in the north bay. so we can kind of call this one finished and get into our christmas eve and hopefully enjoy our festivities. and i think more importantly just know that we don't have to worry about

but first, we want to go to the kron 4 weather center and check in with meteorologist kyla grogan. big one kyla. yeah, it is now. listen, it's held off a little bit. just some light rain in the north bay to the roads aren't looking too bad. as we take a look at the golden gate bridge. >> but it is coming and it will be later this evening that we start to see those heavier showers roll in. this is an atmospheric river. you do see that moisture stream that reaches back into the pacific. so that means that it will be a well supplied stream of moisture. lots to work with, right? here's where we are right now. very light showers as you can see in the north bay. so you're not seeing a whole lot of the oranges and yellows. that's been the case throughout the day today. not a whole lot of it down on the peninsula are in the east bay or south bay yet. and i say yet because this will all change as we get later into the evening. so let's take this hour by hour here. just kind of show you as we roll through taking about 07:00pm notice still in the north bay kind of getting its act together. but

kron 4 meteorologist kyla grogan us back. kyle avoid really did get messy and a lot of places yet it and you got we have some of that soggy ground out there, right try out a little bit. but we had an awful lot of rain before the system. so taking a live look across the bay area. you can see it's very pervasive. still the gray skies, but we are starting. >> to see the rain slack off. and that is kind of a good thing, right get a break as we head into tonight, temperatures have been cool out there in spots. you can see even a spot like vallejo just at 48 degrees in 49 in concord. you see some 50's out there. but it's a little chilly. no doubt about it. low pressure has been driving this system and there's another one on its heels. but this one is starting to wrap up. so obviously this would be the end of this. and then now we have what happens next, right? where do we go after this? and the answer is that we get a break. so as we get into tomorrow, notice that we will still have that mix of sun and clouds, but we will start to

this is a live look at i-80 and kron 4 meteorologist kyla grogan is back. i know you're looking at our forecast and weather in the mountains. that's right. and we are still under that winter weather advisories means right now is not one. you want to be on the roads. you can see all of those cars just kind of sitting there, right? and that's not where you want to be. that winter weather advisory goes till 7 o'clock tonight. you're looking at diamond peak right now. >> where they got a couple of inches of snow. normally we see the lake behind us here in the view. but not right now. 31 degrees south lake tahoe. so they're below the freezing mark. they've got a little bit of wind out there. not bad, though, out of the south, about 8 miles per hour. and as you can see, some of that snow definitely still happening now was rolling a little bit heavier as we were earlier in the afternoon. now we're starting to see things break up a little bit. but still, those roads are going to be very slick and impassable for many spots. i mentioned that winter weather advisory.

look at the bay bridge toll plaza and the skies have just been relentlessly grahat, meteorologist kyla grogan is here with us. just kind of spritz saying i think in most areas kyla, but for no side has spread thing. i like that. yeah, it's just a little drizzly. little gray. and certainly when you walk outside, you think i better take the umbrella just in case. and that's a good instinct of although we are expecting showers to hold off until overnight tonight. really any significant winds. but >> you can see how it's just misty out here as we take a live look in san francisco. now, what's interesting is temperatures are actually get warmer right now. we're at 59 in san francisco, checkout san jose. we're at 71 decrease right now. so we are a bit balmy. we are basically in the warm sector of the next front that's going to be rolling through. so what that means is that these temperatures will likely be a little bit above average today, which is kind of a nice break, right? but it's going to be short lived because we will start to see some of these low pressure systems roll through before those

meteorologist kyla grogan. it's tracking current conditions and what's to come. she's in the crowd for weather center. hi, kyla. hey there. so, right. we have seen the showers start pick up a little bit as we go throughout the day. and that certainly means that we're seeing a wet roads out there. as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge. you can see that. >> and it has been since last night that we had a big push of rain come through, right. and that rolled through the heavier showers. but right now it's just very light and very scattered, but it's also very pervasive meeting. you'll be hard pressed to miss some of those wet roads. if you are headed out this afternoon or this evening, some taking it out of the north bay and again, you can see it is very light. you don't see a lot of oranges or yellow. same story as we head down to the peninsula over to the east bay and down to the south bay. the bigger push is coming tomorrow night. that is when we are going to see the next low pressure system. kind of take aim at the bay area. and that one does look like

meteorologist kyla grogan is here with details on what's happening.eah, want to take a look at the country because you can kind of see where the jet stream takes a dive there to the south. and that is open the door for cool air to be. >> happening on the eastern half of the country, western half of the country under a ridge. and that's why we're gehting the warmer temperatures, though, when you look here in san francisco, we're in the 60's, obviously for next los angeles, too, head over to chicago. it's 31 degrees. and you can see even down in nashville, 32 40's in atlanta. and then, of course, pretty chilly up in boston to not to mention what we get up into places like fargo, north dakota. so we are benefiting from what's called a blocking pattern, meaning that we get some high pressure and low pressure that are stuck in place and don't want to move in. as long as that stays that way. we get days like this where our temperatures are quite lovely out where we could see upper 60's and even a 70 degree mark or 2 today. and we get this, the sunny skies,

kron 4 meteorologist kyla grogan standing by with the latest. there. >> downtown san francisco. obviously skies are darkening. the clouds are certainly taking over here. we've been a little drizzly today, but now we're starting to see some of those sprinkles turn into rain in the north bay right now. but it will start to roll towards the rest of the bay area as we york our way through the afternoon and evening. so there's that light rain that's starting to move into some light shogers right now in the north bay. certainly making those roads a little bit slicker. and you can see right where it's coming to point rays starting show up on 101 right through santa rosa down towards petaluma lighter showers as we head to points south of that. certainly not a whole lot happening yet in san francisco are over in the east bay, south bay. also still quiet. but this will track through as this happens. we're going to see the winds start to pick up, too. so just get ready for that. right now. you can see in san francisco, the flag not really moving there in the golden gate bridge. good indica

let's see with the snow conditions are like right now with meteorologist kyla grogan.ey're happy to say we don't see a whole lot of people on the roads there, right? and that is smart. this is a live look at yosemite. i just had to pull this up because it's so beautiful and they get snow here. you can see it's just gorgeous. >> half dome. they're sitting right in the foreground and then i'm going to take you up to diamond peak where we've got about 4 inches overnight. you can certainly see the visibility is near 0 and we are looking at a little fresh snow sitting there there. 35 degrees right now in south lake tahoe. that is still great temperatures for some snow to come down. humidity at 85% in the wind out of the south about 15 miles per hour. so they are in it right now. and you can certainly see that as we take a look at the last 3 hours on storm tracker here with those darker blues are that's where that heavier snow is happening. and i always think it's really interesting to see that rain snow line that you see right where the purple is. has that kind of gets forc

we're going to check in now with our meteorologist kyla grogan. the details. >> beautiful day out there today. got blue skies here as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge. now, those. >> blue skies are also allowing us to get a little chilly in last night. if we take a look at some of the lows, they were quite low, right? we got down to 36 degrees in santa rosa petaluma and to know that you can say weren't alone in the 30's there. wanna creek to 38. 41 in livermore. and then we had some 40's oakland sfo coming in at about 46 degrees. so we are set to see more of that tonight has once again, these clear skies kind of allow the heat of the day to escape rather quigkly. and that means that we're going to be headed down again. but right now, 58 degrees in oakland, lovely out there. we've got wind out of the northwest about 10 miles per hour. not bad at all and could see current temperatures here. we've made up 60 degrees in san jose and conquered about 58 in oakland. 55 in san francisco. as i mentioned it up in santa rosa about 59. so really

meteorologist kyla grogan. here now with details on what's happening there.nitor comes out tomorrow. but i want to take a look at this because i rolled it back 30 days to show you what the difference is banned from all that rain that we did pick up now. notice. >> parts of nevada and parts of arizona actually had worsening circumstances. where is we had a big improvement here in the bay area as to who was seeing abnormally dry conditions, a step in the right direction, if you will. and if we take a look here at the water year with a water year starts october first and obviously we get most of our rain in our winter months. just to show you what we've gotten so far, the thing that leaps out here, when you take a look at the percentage of normal as we go down here, looking percentage of normal. obviously the big winners, san francisco and also santa rosa where we got an awful have rate, 15.9, 2 inches of rain what's normal for this time of year from october. 1st now is 5.8. so we've made some obviously huge strides in some areas. but there are some areas that a

let's check in now with kron 4 meteorologist kyla grogan for more. hey there. yes, you can see behind me in san jose. also overcast definitely to gray clouds winning there. but there are pops of sunshine. >> in and around san francisco and in the north bay right now. so we're getting there. but as you can see in san jose, we have dried out, but we do still have some cloud cover. same story really all across the bay area. you don't see much on the radar at all. but we're still hanging on to some of those clouds. and the reason for that as we zoom out here, you start to see the bigger picture, which is that there is that comma shape system that low pressure with a bit of a tail there indicating kind of atmospheric river moisture stream still kind of bringing some of that into the pacific northwest. and some of those clouds are spilling over and heading towards the bay area. having said that, we should stay relatively dry today. tonight, a different story. we'll talk about that in a second. but look what we picked up in this last system that just moved through las

outside here across the golden gate bridge, getting some blue skies and they're now meteorologist kyla groganlooks great, right? a big difference from what it looked like this morning. hardly see the bridge at all. but the marine layer is giving us a break. now, i do want to mention that we do still the flood advisory for parts of central sonoma county. you can see in areas for about healdsburg right on down to rohnert park. some of those creeks and streams certainly took out a lot of water which means they rose up. and you have to watch out just a little bit for minor flooding. if you're in and around those areas, they could still be a little dangerous. but other than that high pressure starting to build. and that's bringing us the sunshine warming us up a little bit keeping any stormy weather away so that shoots up to the pacific northwest. this is a live look from our sutro tower camera. again, you can see those blue skies are moving in looking pretty good today. we're looking out for about 59 degrees in san francisco. that will put us one degree above average, the record, by the way, 1998

seems the city of san francisco looking looking like as we wind down 2024, we have meteorologist kyla grogan in the weather center with details on. >> our chilly mornings. >> we've got another one on tap as we get into the overnight tonight. let's talk about where we were this morning. we got down to about 36 degrees in santa rosa 36 degrees in santa rosa petaluma and sonoma. no off on a creek at 38. 41 in livermore and the oakland airport and sfo around that mid 40 mark. by the way, san jose got down to 37 degrees this morning. 2 so very chilly out there. and that's part and parcel of clear skies when you don't have that cloud cover, it allows things to get really cool really fast. and that's what happened this morning. having said that, it's worked his way to a really nice day today. 59 degrees right now in oakland looking good. wind is just at 9 miles per hour out of the west. so pretty nice out there. and if you take a look around the rest of the bay area where it's 60 now in concord and sunny, though, we're at 61 down in san jose says starting to warm up in spots. we just hit the 60 deg

let's get started with kyla grogan in the weather hi there, right. and we want to just reiterate that we definitely are not under a tsunami warning any longer that has been lifted. so just so that everyone's clear. >> that was the danger that was earlier this morning. but at the moment, everything has subsided and we are looking good. so let's talk about this. this was 50 miles southwest of eureka where this earthquake a 7 point. oh, so, you know, a very big, very strong earthquake hit and you'll notice that there are 3 plates here, the pacific plate. we've got the court up late and the north american plate. so these are tectonic plates that come together. and this makes this a very active area for earthquakes. you get subduction here and that can cause big earthquakes. and that can also cause when you heard what happened today, i'm sure you might even think of yourself. well, what is going on with tsunami? why does this happen when we have a big quake? what happens is these these plates kind of rub together in the case of the subduction, they kind o

. >> kron 4 meteorologist kyla grogan here to weigh in on. >> we're going to do this again. got a northwest swell that's been coming in. and that does bring unfortunately incredibly dangerous surf withk it. and as we kind of take a look here, you can see where that pocket of yellow is right to the north of us. and that's where wave heights are over 20 feet right now. we're not quite that high. if we zoom in. >> and we look off of the coast of point raise, we're sitting at about 14 feet, but i've watched these increase a little bit today and this advisory is not just for today goes through the entire weekend until we get into our sunday afternoon about 4 o'clock. so that means that this will likely be increasing all along the way through this weekend. so we could see waves 20 to 30 feet again, right? we could see very big risk of sneaker waves that could come in. so very important that you never turn your back on the ocean. i would avoid the coast if you can for the next couple of days when the dangers there. but certainly if you have to be out there, be very careful. make su

and meteorologist kyla grogan has all the details. yeah, that's right. so we do have blue skies.y are beautiful, but we do have also that spare the air alert and that has to do with some particulates that are. >> in the air. and the good news here is that it's not looking as bad as was predicted. so spare the air alerts happening today. this is what we're expecting. but when we kind of go down to the ground and look at the ground truth here, we are just seeing things slip into the moderate category, not the poor category or anything. we're so that's some good news. now. this happens because we get people that you know, putting on those fireplaces when it gets really chilly in the mornings. and unfortunately, that is the number one, according to the air number one contributor to pollution during our winter months here in the bay area. outside of that gorgeous out there. temperatures and i-65 right now in san francisco. 71 in livermore. 68 up in santa rosa. you see these temperatures are great. san jose at 70 degrees. cupertino. it's 70 degrees. so we're starting december. definite

and meteorologist kyla grogan here with a sort of primer on tsunamis in what we need to know so let's talk about this because i think this obviously prompted the conversation today why does this happen? what you know, why does not why are they caused by this? and so wanted to kind of show you how. >> we have 3 big tectonic plates that are here and you can kind of see it. the court the court, a plate, the pacific plate. >> and then, of course, the north american plate. and when you've got those plates together, you get into a situation where it's very volatile because the movement of these in different directions can cause these issues and earthquakes. and so that is basically why you see this being such an earthquake prone part of california. so 7 point, obviously a huge earthquake that was at 10. 44 this morning about 50 miles southwest of eureka. so it was out in the ocean. it was offshore. and when you have something out in the ocean and you have those plates moving, what happens is you start to see all of this water get pushed because of it and it can be a massive amount of water

meteorologist kyla grogan here now with details. hey there. yeah, it is a gorgeous day. i'm we're in kind of a spring-like dress because it feels like spring-like temperatures to me. everybody. >> temperatures right now you can see 68 in san jose where it's 67 in livermore. we are at 63 in san francisco and about 64 in novato. obviously very nice out there. the wind is relatively calm. you can see we're about 12 miles per hour and half moon bay. but that is about it as far as any breeze is concerned. and the temperature change here up a few in certain notice here in mount view or 7 degrees. warmer livermore. 8 degrees warmer, relatively speaking. we're a little bit warmer across the board. couple spots showing down a degree or 2, but it's nice out there. storm tracker 4 confirming all those blue skies that we see. and as we zoom out, the reason for that is because of high pressure. take a look at it here. there's our dome of high pressure. and what that does is essentially allow all systems to kind of stay away from us. go to the north of us. and that's what's happening.

kron. 4 meteorologist kyla grogan going join us not to go over what we need to know. if you have plans to go to the coast this weekend. you're recommending definitely not know. we have a high surf advisory. want to avoid the coast. if you can. >> if you are out there, you've got to be very careful. take a look at this. you can see are some of these wave heights not too far from us already up to about 24 feet. that's little to the north of us. if we go off the coast of point rays have been watching these go up today. they started off at about 12 feet. now we're up to 4 teens that gives you an indication that sweat that wave height is growing, right? which means the danger at the coast is still growing as well. so we are under this high surf advisory. it does go until the early morning hours of our sunday. we can see waves upwards of 20, even 30 feet, depending on the topography of the beach and where you're at. right. so you just want to make sure that you are not putting yourself in danger, meaning not going out on jedi's making sure you're not turning your back to th

but first go to our meteorologist kyla grogan with today's rainy forecast. yeah, that's right.g those raindrops on the camera certainly here in san francisco as we take a live look at what would normally be the transamerica pyramid view. but today it's just rain drops. and that's all we've got rain total so far in the last 24 hours over an inch. in fact, almost 1.2 in santa rosa, bill valley just under an inch. >> just under half an inch over in oakland, you can see dublin about three-quarters redwood city. san jose, obviously much less. but we are still seeing some of that rain make its way towards parts of the peninsula and into the south bay. so here's where we're at right now. and as we zoom in here, you can see that where there are a few heavier pockets of showers would be over by the east bay's. we're talking about livermore heading out towards tracy. also point south as we get from fremont and we head on down towards san jose. that's where we're seeing some of that rain falling now. so obviously you're going to be picking up some additional totals. now, the north bay, th

and we do have kron four's meteorologist kyla grogan. to join us with the latest conditions on and things that we need to know. yeah, that's right. so obviously we have been fortunate in sense that we have gotten some decent rain in the beginning of our winter season that is set us p to be able to kind of call in and >> to our fire season. that has not been the case in southern california. they haven't gotten nearly the rain that we've gotten. and as you can see, even with, you know, last night's rain, they've just gotten little paltry amounts. now, this is helpful for firefighters because it is bringing a little bit of moisture bringing that onshore flow. that does kind of help them with conditions for firefighting. but as you can see, if we go towards malibu here, you can see this kind of very light shower, the kind of rolled through a little bit earlier today. and that's about it. now. they will have a chance at some more on saturday. but again, the systems tend to ring themselves out before they get down to southern california. and t

meteorologist kyla grogan is live in the weather center. >> we're tracking the latest on these huge waves. >> yeah, absolutely. you know, i will admit that i follow some of the surfers. the video is incredible. i've been watching some of it as they've been kind of getting ready for this. and now today starting to post them as well. but there is a high surf warning. this is not for the faint of heart. this is a very dangerous time to be at the coast. and those who do get involved in that are very much specialists in their field. that's for sure. but we're talking about between now and noon tomorrow. the highest surf expected to come in and the forecast is 25 to 35 feet. but if you're on the beaches that are facing in the right direction, that can go up to 40, even 50 feet. so sneaker waves are huge concern. and you just have to be careful. it's a westerly swell that's bringing in these monster waves and all of the danger that comes with them. this is real-time information i'm able to give you and you can see where we've got. 26 foot wave heights here. that is off the coast of san francisco

take a live look at pacifica beach and we are under a high surf warning and kron 4 meteorologist kyla grogan been talking about that among other things. and you've been busy. i have busy. that's right. >> and the coast is still busy, right? it's still play. so we have to be very careful. as you can see, some of waves are still very churned up. so as catherine mentioned, we are under this high surf warning. it does go through this evening all up and down our coast. waves still potentially could get up to that. 25 to 35 foot mark often tell you, seen the pullback lit bit today, but that's not stay. there can't be a sneaker wave or a roadway that does come up and kind of knock someone off their feet. so if you have guests visiting, please make sure they understand the danger of our coastline. this is where this well was. that westerly swell. and as we kind of zoom in here, you can see where it's pulled away a bit from us now. that's why we're starting to see these wave heights go down to yesterday. we're in the 20's now off point razor about 14 feet. if i head down kind of near to a maverick, s
