pelosi signaling she wants democratic senators including joe manchin and kyrsten sinema to get on board with the spending bill. the problem, and they're public about this, they're not there yet. it's not sure what figure they would be happy with. we've learned president biden met with senator manchin yesterday. in a statement, manchin called the current price tag of the bill, quote, wait for this, the definition of fiscal insanity. that's a democrat. cnn chief congressional correspondent manu raju is on capitol hill. pelosi will still hold a vote today. do you believe that? does that mean she has the votes? >> reporter: it does not and it doesn't mean the vote could happen. she keeps saying, quote, the plan is to have a vote today and it is hour by hour. she's told reporters you're minute by minute, i'm hour by hour, suggesting in the next hour perhaps that could change. at the moment, she is huddling with her top deputies in her office leadership meeting to try to figure out a way forward. then she'll talk to the press and we'll see if she's changed her mind in any way. a clear divisio

and so we still have had no interactions, no negotiations with senator manchin and kyrsten sinema on that they don't, and what they do look. we know what they don't like. that's what they made quite clear over an over again. but what do they want to do of the democratic agenda. the president's agenda. we're waiting for that. but until then, lawrence, house progressives are very clear. we are not going to leave behind women. we are not gonna leave behind people who need housing. we are not gonna leave behind climate change. one of the most important issues that we are facing today. and the president is going to have to go to cop26 in just a little bit, and he is going to have to explain if we leave behind clime, why the united states feels like we can make any kind of an agreement with the rest of the world or force the rest of the world to address climate change as a real. issue so this is, we are not leaving that behind -- and that's why we can't vote for the bipartisan inastructure bill, until we pass the build back better act, which is 70% or more of the presidents agenda. >> here

he had a few things to say about arizona senator kyrsten sinema. take a listen. >> it's funny because i actually spoke to kyrsten sinema. i did a fundraiser at our house in los angeles for the democratic sen toirl campaign committee. this was years ago, two or three years ago. and she, at the time, was vociferously -- vociferously standing up for the filibuster. one of the -- the attendees at the fundraiser asked a question about the filibuster. and there were several of the senators that were there who were willing to get rid of the filibuster. but even at the time, senator sinema stood up for the filibuster. and i just can't say more clearly how wrong i think she is on this issue. >> mehdi, this particularly interesting because we don't get a lot of intimate windows into senator sinema's thinking, right? that is part of the mystique of her. and also, we talk a lot about her political evolution. what did you make of that piece of the interview? >> you very politely call it mystique. i might call it arrogance that she doesn't actually come on shows

why is it a tough sell for people like joe manchin and kyrsten sinema?t virginia and arizona are not states known for super wealthy, doesn't that resonate with their voters? >> you would think so. the idea of raising taxes on the wealthy is broadly speaking a popular idea. of course, the overall democratic party has been steadily changing the threshold for who counts as rich. biden has said only those making over $400,000 as rich. obama said it was over $250,000. aoc, she of the infamous "tax the rich" ball gown said a few days ago really the rich are the billionaires and hundred millionaires, few of whom presumably are in west virginia. they're more likely to be in places like new york and california. i think what this is about is wanting to appear as moderate. they don't -- these particular democrats that you mentioned, manchin and sinema, don't want to be seen as, you know, these ultra left soak-the-rich members of their party, so they're trying to stakeout territory that make it them seem more moderate. they're not the socialists, right. they're the
