. >> yes, the rainy season started yesterday in kyushu. typically the season continues for six weeks. now a seasonal front is now located to the south of japan and that's sending out moisture to the pacific side of japan, the heavy rain is falling over the east areas of kyushu. heavy rain is going the east and by thursday things are clearing up. we're looking for a return of sunny weather on thursday. gloomy weather, rainy weather will come back on friday and staying that way into early next week. now tokyo, we're not in the rainy season yet but it will likely come soon across tokyo. rain is affecting taiwan and the south china and as we have been reporting the ship capsized late monday and people there are search operations are still under way. the front has shifted towards the south so the worst is over and cooler weather is waiting for you coming up on your thursday. temperatures are going to be quite high in taipei 30 for the high, 33 in hong kong and very hot with daytime thunder showers in bangkok on thursday. now let's go the americ

now, it has officially started a little farther back toward the west, across parts of kyushu, we have seen the rainy season kick in about four to -- well, two to four days ahead of average out here. now, we are getting a little break for most of the country as we go ahead through our thursday here. you see a satellite picture, clear skies have moved in, as we head into the weekend, another bout of rainfall is really going to start to push in from the west. and that's going to bring in some more showers not only parts of kyushu but toward tokyo as we head through your saturday. but what i take you to is video coming out of kumamoto prefecture. there is report of a landslide here. an 84-year-old resident was a little bit worried because the rain was just pouring down her backyard there on the mountainside. so, definitely kind of a scary situation. this is anything uncommon for japan, but those showers just definitely continuing to kick up out here. now as we take a look at the bigger picture though, we are looking at that stationary boundary continuing to inch farther off here toward th

portions of kyushu and down to the southernmost islands of japan we'll see close to 100 millimeters of rainfall over the next 48 hours. japan's not the only place being affected by the front. way back toward the south and eastern portions of china, still seeing a lot of rainfall. flooding is definitely an issue in the region and we're going to keep an eye on this because it looks like it's going to be still quite wet as we go into friday. taipei looking at wet weather, into hong kong and tokyo. now, as we go further toward the west into the arabian sea we're keeping an eye on cyclonic storm ashobaa. this system is slowly moving and so it's nearly stationary. winds of 74. but we are expecting this to be a big rainstorm. look at this. we calibrated the colors to where the red indicates 300 millimeters in 72 hours. that's a lot of rain. and we're going to see that in the eastern tip of the arabian peninsula through the next three days. flooding will definitely be an issue as we go forward in forecast time period. thankfully the winds may not be quite as big of a deal compared to the rainf

, 50 millimeters could occur, in southern kyushu, the rainy season did officially start here on your tuesday. back toward the east, tokyo as well, looking it he passing showers. if you are commuting here on your wednesday, you're going to be looking at these rain showers out there across japan, but even toward taipei august little bit of break here on your benz, but back by thursday and friday, those rain showers really start to kick back in yet again. let's look at your temperatures because over toward tokyo, 25 there for your high, rain showers for you. back towards the north, things are staying clear, down toward the south, manila, high of 35 there for you. i want to talk about what's going on here in south america, specifically in chill lay. what we have going on is one low after another, you can actually see here toward the east, moving away, another pushing back toward the west, a transition season, so you see this. the problem is they hit the mountains here in the andes and then you start getting that moisture, just accumulates. let's go to some video we have. this just shows

so we are hearing lots of reports of flooding and mudslides from many areas of kyushu. an additional 200 millimeters of rain is likely for this area. so more flooding and landslides could occur. good news. starting friday sunny weather will come back so definitely a nice break in the rainy season. as for tokyo, rainy weather will continue into friday. but generally dry over the weekend. heavy rain is falling across china as well. and on tuesday it fell in shanghai. take a look at this footage. students at a university decided to go fishing in the flooded waters. usually the fishing are contained in the nearby ponds and streams. but because of the overflowing waters, the fish were spotted on the campus as well. over 200 millimeters of rain fell on tuesday and wednesday in shanghai. that's much more than the average rainfall for the month of june. so the students enjoyed fishing on the street in shanghai. now the rain is actually easing in the city but instead the area to the south of shanghai will see drenching rainfall for the next couple of days. across the korean peni

and the rain will also spread to the northern portions of kyushu as well. across china, the seasonal rain band is affecting this area. the strongest areas will be across the yangtze river basin. sunny weather will return to seoul on thursday with 31 degrees. and 24 in tokyo. even down to 20 degrees as we go into friday. very hot in taipei. 35 degrees. now let's go to the americas. floods are a very high risk across the southern portions of the united states. tropical storm bill made landfall in the east coast of texas on tuesday. and it is still packing lots of energy. now, the system caused nearly 100 kilometer per hour gusts. it has weakened enough to cause flooding as well as tornadoes. there is a concern for nearly 200 millimeters of rain for the eastern areas of texas for the next several days. in fact, over 500 millimeters has fallen since the entire month of may. the ground is very well saturated. additional rain is definitely not good news. it will also spread to the south of the gulf lakes region as well as into the weekend. temperatures will be do

so it's not really going anywhere, and it is also impacting southern kyushu, up to 150 millimeters of additional rainfall could certainly be enough to trigger flooding out here. but the rest of the country is looking at some high pressure system predominant and the temperatures will be reaching into the high 20s, 28 degrees, it's going to be a lovely day for you to do your laundry, a break from that rainy season here in tokyo. seoul reaching up to 32 degrees, and a lot of thunderstorms will be flaring up in and around beijing. out here across the arabian sea we are looking at this cyclonic storm. not so much impact on the western areas of india, but it will actually bring about 300 millimeters of rainfall in a month. we usually only see about 13 millimeters for the average monthly rainfall so that's enough to create some devastation, so we'll keep you very much updated. it will downgrade into a tropical depression before making contact on land masses. that's the good news. i'll leave you now with your extended forecast. >>> and that is all for this edition of "newsline." i'm catherine

and we're actually going to be seeing about 200 millimeters of additional rainfall in parts of kyushu and even the lesser areas would see amounts of about 150 millimeters. and about 120 millimeters across parts of shikoku and see it engulfing much of honshu. so by the evening hours, we're starting to see the weather deteriorate in tokyo as well. low pressure system is active here over south korea. this could be some beneficial rain because you haven't seen the extreme drought conditions across the locations. but, of course, more and a lot is going to make it for the risk of flooding and landslides. there is also going to be that risk here across southeastern china because we have seen about 200 millimeters in the past 24 hours. 70 millimeters is likely. the monsoon will be slamming the west coast of the indo china peninsula. thailand has been seeing a lot of rain recently and that will continue. you see the patches. so bangkok at 34, chance of thunderstorms along with that. and beijing also at 30 which has the thunderstorms. down to 23 in seoul from the 30s. a bit of a cool down that
