the l.a. river, normally just a glorified storm drain, today? raging rapids. one couple fell in, trapped for hours. the current so quick it swept one of the swift water rescuers downstream. tonight, all of them are safe. on slick roads, more than 200 solutions today. this car is stuck in a mud slide. this is the storm that hit the bay area yesterday. it cut power in the hart of san francisco. turning manholes into geysers and this bus station into an under ground water fall. camarillo springs had plenty of warning. last year, a wildfire burnt out the brush that was holding the topsoil in place. last night, it all came crashing down. these heavy barricades were positioned across in an effort to block out the hillside coming down. but you can see how the mud and the rocks and the rain pushed them aside. and this storm drain literally became a funnel, pushing all this debris into people's backyards. this is the before picture. a vine video posted during the last big storm here, just ten days ago. and here is the same view today. it must have been terrifying. >> o

that being the things happening in new york, ferguson, and happening in l.a. >> the national security agency has released internal oversight reports showing violations and errors over a 12-year period. the practices include sharing americans' emails with unauthorized recipients and wrongfully gathering private information. most of the violations appear to have come from human error as opposed to deliberate intent. the american civil liberties union has criticized the nsa for releasing the documents on christmas eve, saying the timing suggests officials wanted to minimize their impact.

previously sat on one of the wiretapping stories at the "l.a. times" i believe also sat on this story. we also saw a story last year reported in "the huffington post" that found that the national security agency documents reflected that they were intercepting, collecting, and then planning to use information on individuals' pornography viewing habits to discredit them in their communities and in public on the basis of the political views they held. these individuals were islamists and their politics were considered radical so we can understand why this sort of interest would be there. they go, well, we're preventing radicalization. but it also said these individuals were mott suspected to be associated with violence.

at times it was so strong one woman who lives here in l.a.id she thought it was an earthquake going on. turns out it was actually a small tornado that set down in south los angeles. another resident actually caught that tornado on his cell phone video there. you can see the tornado ripped a roof off of one home, damaged a number of others. nobody was hurt. according to u.s. tornadoes.com, this is the first tornado that l.a. has seen in the past ten years. the national weather service classified it as an ef-0. check out a waterspout, a tornado over water. jason and his girlfriend nina got the great shot just off of newport beach just south of l.a. earlier in the day the storms created huge mudslides causing mud to flow down. dozens of homes were damaged and at least ten had to be red tagged. >> when the door slammed shut, i knew there was two feet of mud behind me and soon the front window blew out. when the window blew out, i knew we had a complete flow of mud and water going through the house completely. >> heavy rainfall caused severe flood
