las vegas tragedy for some time. there is no sign that reckoning will include any reassessment of the president's opposition to new gun-control laws. anthony. >> mason: major garrett. thanks, major. there was no shortage of heroes sunday night at sunrise hospital. it is the closest trauma center to the las vegas strip and got the most patients as the injured streamed in. so did 100 doctor doctors and n, 100 nurses. today, some shared memories of that awful night. >> ambulances were just coming from everywhere. there were pickup trucks with parties just cutting in front of me, and just trying to come right to the emergency room. >> reporter: sunrise hospital and medical center's administrative director of emergency services, dorita sondereker. e.r. doctor jason katz, and medical director scott scherr, were in the middle of the chaos as the wounded flooded in. >> there was blood everywhere, and honestly, i want to say bodies on stretchers everywhere. >> oh, my god! >> patients kept rolling in and we were just trying to find placement for everybody. >> mason: scott, what did you see? >> all penetrating wounds, whether it was shrapnel or whether it was direct hits. un

. ♪ arthel: one week ago today, the las vegas massacre reigniting the gun control debate on capitol hill and thoughts may be that rare subject. more now from garrettek ago must have heard and i guess most of congress agreed that he needs to be done about these devices. however, there is still disagreement over what needs to be done. of course what allowed him to turn them into fully automatic machine guns. republicans are pushing vapor of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives to change regulations which allows devices to be sold. democrats such as diane feinstein argue simply changing regulations doesn't go far enough. >> regulations aren't going to do it. we need a law. it can't be changed by another president. i hope that americans will step up and say enough is enough. congress, do something. >> some republicans have suggested they are open to legislation that would make bump stock illegal. many such as minority leader cross web steve scalise to push additional gun measures that one actually fix the problems of mass shootings. >> a week ago most people did not come a few people, but most people didn't know what a bump stock was. i too think

garrett notice notice, in the meantime. you said this set up for a nightmare scenario for las vegas authorities because it appears as if they were targeting a busy area, the las vegas strip and also this concert. those folks, sitting ducks there. >> and the added element to this which makes it even worse obviously, is open air. so it's one of those things, difficult for law enforcement to cover. brian ross mentioned earlier that obviously, we're not checked as we go into hotels. it's my understanding that the shooter was up sort of above the concert in a hotel room, probably on a balcony. there's one part of the video that you have of the machine gun that also has the sound of like a large stationary machine gun that could even be belt-fed, which means you more rounds. so we'll have to see. but obviously, the shooter could, would have the luxury of doing that, because if he's in a hotel room, on a balcony, he's going to be able to shoot for multiple minutes before anybody figures out that he's there. >> it's chilling. when we talk about the security. you're saying it's an open-air arena, in this case, especially in the case

brad garrett, former fbi agent and consultant joining us right now with opinion on on on on onn shooting event in las>> we want to head back to matt on the ground in las vegas near the area where this all happened. matt, when's tat's the latest y hearing? >> frohospital, at least 20 casualties brought in. that number is apparently growing. no confirmation that the shooter or shooters are down or located. that doesn't mean that there is an active shooter still on the ground but it does mean that -- batten down. just listening to that video, i spent the better part of a decade in the middle east and embedded a lot. i've also met with a lot of terrorists. and anybody who's received any significant amount of training never puts their gun or their automatic weapon on full auto. it is a sound you rarely hear in combat unless you're talking about extraordinarily close quarters in which forgive me for the phrase but it's shooting fish in a barrel or that this person's untrained or sewing mass terror. if the purpose and i'm talking just clinically here and if the purpose is to still, you choose your shots and

garrett, thanks very much. linsey davis on the scene at university hospital in las vegas. we just heard sheriff lombardo say all the hospitals in the area simply overwhelmed. >> exactly. we were all kind of trying to die with guest the idea more than 50 dead and comparing that with pulse nightclub, having the 49 deceased and now hearing on top of that more than 200 people are injured. here at umc, they have more than 50 of those patients and that number had just doubled from the first time they told us to when we got the update here. we haven't heard yet an update on the critical patients. at this point, they're standing firm on 12 critically injured at this location and 2 pronounced dead. i don't know if you can see all the way down this street, but there is a line of police officers and this perimeter goes around the whole hospital. so we have been here at family members have come up and they're turning them away. so as you heard the sheriff just say, they're asking family members to go to police headquarters. they don't want them to come here. so you have to imagine how

las vegas reigniting the debate over gun control on capitol hill. it appears the years' long stalemate could be broken, on the subject of so-called bump stocks. garrett has more from washington. garrett? reporter: arthel, this is one area there appears to be some consensus. that is a rare thing on capitol hill, particularly when it comes to gun control. lawmakers are concerned that the currently legal bump stock devices are essentially a loophole for folks looking to get around the ban on fully automatic weapons by equipping them to semiautomatic firearms and pushing them out at a faster rate. to review the current regulations which allow bump stocks to be sold, but leading democrats such as senator dianne feinstein argue that changing regulation says not enough. >> regulations aren't going to do it. we need a law. it can't be changed by another president. right now, we're seeing one president change actions of a president that came before him, and that would happen in this area, and i hope that americans will step up and say enough is enough, congress, do something. reporter: this week the nra announced support of the administration reviewing regula
