a ladder truck. he got out of surgery earlier this morning. >> news 4's justin finch is live on f street in the area where it happened. justin, good morning. >> reporter: eun, good morning. the initial call was to this row house fire on the 800 block of f street northeast. you can still see damage to the upstairs window as a result of that fire. then attention had to dane smothers jr. and we now have a picture of him. take a look. we know he's 28 years old, a probationary firefighter. only serving a matter of months. on scene, we saw something else. a ladder truck. we later learned that smothers was truck by a fire ladder truck and apparently having jumped off a fire vehicle as that ladder truck rounded a corner. all this as fire crews responded to a two-alarm fire. smothers was taken to med star washington where fellow firefighters and loved ones have gathered. smothers himself is from a line, a family of firefighters. >> our thoughts and prayers are with firefighter smothers and his family. his unc
