i urge you to support the development of 55 laguna. 55 laguna development includes urgently needed affordable housing being built by open house. it will be welcoming to and inclusive of lgbt seniors. the open house building will include on-site services and activities center so residents and seniors from across the city will have a central place to get the help they need. lgbt seniors are underserved in senior services and senior housing here in san francisco. there are 25,000 lgbt people over the age of 55, but few about lgbt seniors can be identified and utilize senior services or live in residential facilities. lgbt seniors do not feel safe to be out to their service providers or to live in residential facilities for fear of discrimination. all too often, lgbt seniors hide their identity or choose to leave san francisco in the comfort and safety of their friends and loved ones to find the services and housing been need. san francisco can and must do better than that. besides open house senior housing, the 55 laguna development also provides much needed rental housing, affordable housing, p

we have moved the community garden closer to the corner of laguna. there is not a direct connection into that community -- now a direct connection into that community garden. one of the other concerns, we have kept the alleyway that runs in the north-south direction, but that no longer has correspondent. it would only be for emergency vehicle access. it would just be pedestrians and bicycles. we have to change the orientation of several of the buildings to run more parallel as opposed to perpendicular. there is quite a -- there is 80 feet of slope from corner to corner. there has been a lot of discussion and good feedback about accessibility. this diagram shows everything in rain is completely open to the public 24-7. then we have the area in the purplish-blue color, which is the community garden. and in the orange areas are of the courtyards for the residence. i want to point out an important -- there is a new connection now that will run -- it will allow connection into the community garden and down into -- community garden. the overall design, it

she volunteered at laguna honda hospital and was always involved in the neighborhood and stayed current. we very much appreciated all the work she did on behalf of the neighborhood. she was here many times to testify at the planning commission, on behalf of the sunset district. and we will all miss her but she will be especially missed by her husband, sean, her children, and their spouses and many grandchildren. i also want to adjourn today's meeting in memory of celia rodriguez, she passed away surrounded by her family. she joins her husband and her son in heaven. her husband immigrated to san francisco in 1955 and celia joined him in 1956 but it was in san francisco that they raised their family and realized their dream of opening their restaurant in the outer sunset district. her restaurant opened its doors in 1962 first as a simple coffee shop and later becoming mexican food restaurant. over time she brought to the sunset her unique style of cooking, and her hard work and dedication eventually led to the establishment of more than a dozen celia's mexican restaurants in the bay area.

the main portion of this project is to create a two-way street -- two-way haight street between laguna and market. this is to improvement the operations of the 71 haight and the [speaker not understood] so it does include spending the facility of the [speaker not understood] trolley coach. we have to add new overhead wires in. it can be expensive to do that, but it is a good improvement. like i said, it's moving almost to the end thev conceptual engineering phase. it is anticipated to be complete at the end of january 20 136789 final design should be completed after that, completing december 2013. moving into construction june of 2014 and completing may of 2015. the total project cost did increase quite a bit from the original grant for this project. this project is supported by a regional transportation for livable communities grant and also some redirection of seeing block grant funds from the 2nd street project as well as some other mta funds. it is fully funded, but the cost increase came from looking back at the overhead work that needed to be done for the project as well as other

city charter, creating ma, the department of aging and adult services, figuring out how to rebuild laguna honda and how seniors can live their lives in dignity and other projects. i said before i think my greatest accomplishment may have been helping the city keep going, passing budgets, paying employees and vendors, keeping water flowing in and out of your homes. and those are the basics of running a government. people deserve those things, they expect those, and those are great. but those are not the accomplishments i mentioned at the beginning. and that's what i would like to do now is give you a very quick speech i call my bread and roses speaker. over the years i've been known for giving unsolicited advice to elected officials so i figured why not on the way out the door. so why bread and roses. about a hundred years ago women at a textile factory in massachusetts were who strike and they carried signs that said give us bread but give us roses. they wanted wages but they also wanted working conditions that allowed them to enjoy their lives. how does that relate to you folks? you all
