commissioner sanchez klee. >> the jcc met at laguna honda on september 11th. we had a very exceptional update on the psychiatry protocols, revisions and standards and due diligence. it was an exceptional presentation. given the fact that a few years ago this was really nonexistent and are a psychiatry department an exceptional job in presenting this to the j.c.c. i would hope that we could even do it before the full commission at some point. is well worth listening. we also went over the goals summary report and analysis as well. and did not bear or of other issues pertaining to unplanned discharges and utilization of the beds. and we reviewed policies and procedures that were brought before us pertaining to the actual operating areas of the hospital. we moved into closed sessions and we approved -- not approved but action was taken pertaining to the credential reports and our health certification and staffing. the meeting was adjourned and unless i our two colleagues would like to add to the meeting -- >> we started off with the fire alarm drill. it is nice t

at laguna honda hospital and a couple of people have sent me, you know, cases that they are asking to represent because they could not be here. speak quickly. 2013, an african american was in an meeting with her peers with her caucasian supervisor. they had a disagreement, she did not agree with whatever the discussion was, her caucasian supervisor grabbed the chair with her sitting in it, pulls her of the meeting and says i'm so tired of you, i wish you would go away, in front of her co-workers. this was reported, h.r. was involved, e.o.c. was involved, nothing happened. her supervisor was promoted to a senior position. her supervisor moved from being a supervisor to a director, and she was marched out of laguna honda with the help of the institutional police. a nurse assistant was written up for in subordination because her supervisor felt that her presence was threatening. recently, an african american c.n.e. was accused of abuse because she removed food from a patient who was vomiting. a co-worker accosted, one co-worker accosted two african americans and told them they are no goo

thank you. >> hello, gail romly, unit clerk at laguna honda hospital. been there three years. when i first came to work, in the first week i was told to report to the nursing station every time i left the nursing station. other two unit clerks on the same classification of me asian, were not told the same thing. i was told not to speak with case managers from outside hospitals, did so one time, was reprimanded for it, my other unit clerk, same classification as me, did the same thing two days later, no reprimand. so, since then when i complained i have been the target of discrimination, retaliation, a hostile working environment. they also did the same thing to the other two unit clerks before i started, one was of african american descent, the other hispanic. they left. i said i'm not going to leave. look at my face every single day until i'm ready to go somewhere. i reported to e.e.o.c. last year, nothing has been done about it. so i have a daughter who is 27 and 3 grandchildren. that i have to stay for. because if i leave, they lose. and the perpetrators win, so i'm not goi

. >> greetings, i'm an activity therapist at laguna honda hospital, 3 of 30 activity therapists who are of african did descent. here to speak about disappointment and disgust about the discrimination and racism as well as the lack of accountability and responsibility by the people who have the authority and power to provide the appropriate care for the residents at laguna honda. about 30% of the residents that are of african descent, and i have taken it upon myself to learn how to speak can to niece and work on the cantonese unit. yet i was discouraged to participate on an employee-run committee, the african american committee for black history month. that is not ok. if all of my performance reviews are excelling, above and beyond, when there are asian activity therapists who do not work on the asian unit, and i do that. secondly, more recently, as of last thursday, i came back to my unit, only find one of the residents that i care for sitting at a table that she does not usually sit at. it was not her designated area, and right before her was a piece of paper that indicated what is reg

it is -- the district attorney, d.p.a., general hospital, laguna honda, sheriff's department, police department, medical examiners, m.t.a., rec and park, we are hearing it throughout all of our departments in the city and county of san francisco and i have to say it's extremely disturbing, when i hear of an isolated incident i see that sometimes as an isolated incident and i get it. but when i hear repeatedly about the lack of investigation on some of these complaints, that they have no merit, that people are being harassed to the point of physical deterioration, when i hear it's not possible to go back into the workplace because of the hostility in the workplace, i agree with some of the speakers that this is, these are issues that actually people marched and lost their lives over in the 1960s and so it is -- it is concerning. i also think that it's probably time that we actually looked at, you know, i guess i want to say the solution isn't just that we hire more african americans because clearly we are hearing here from people who have already been hired by us. so, i think it goes
