the water level of the lake gets higher but the nutrient flow into the lake also gets higher. as you can see from these time-lapse images, when that nutrient-rich water flows in on top of the nutrient-rich water that's already there an heat comes into play, the result is algae bloom. that's where it was on june 12. this is where it was on june 20. all that red representing algae. june 21. and now june 24. if you looked at an image of this today, almost the entire lake is covered by thick, toxic algae. now, to make sure that there is no damage or threat to the dike, which itself is being worked on in order to strengthen it, the u.s. army corps of engineers releases water from the lake to the east, through the st. lucie river, and to the west through the calucahachie river. now it's diverted to these canal systems to the east and to the west. so if you are living to the west or you are living to the east, what you know is that when these releases happen, all of that algae that you see here and all that green algae i just showed new that picture, which is toxic and kills life, no

the entire town of lake port is under a mandatory evacuation and psalm with upper lake and the east sideer valley road in mendocino county. i got a chance to speak with the police chief this morning. he tells me officers are keeping a close on the city and residents homes and hope the fire doesn't get close. >> the situation has been dangerous and scary for residents since saturday afternoon. we have had information that the river fire has been approaching lake port. there's two heads on it. kind of in a v section coming at different areas of lake port and it's been gradually o approaching this direction. >> the police chief shared this video with me he shot on his cell phone and it shows an air tanker dropping fire retardant over the town of lake port and also helicopters dipping into clear lake to make air drops. the fires have burned nearly 56,000 acres and thousands of structures are threatened and six homes have been destroyed. firefighters are attacking the fires on the ground and by air. we have been hearing helicopters but we actually can't see them because sits so smoky. police
