be ready to evacuate in lake county. sara zendehnam is there this morning. >> reporter: good morning. we were on our way to middletown and you can see there is a chp vehicle blocking the roads. we ask what they are doing and they said they blocked off this road because bulldozers are using it to access the eastern side of the kincade fire, making sense considering the fire was moving toward this area last night. evacuation warnings have extended into lake county and even though monday didn't see the fire, dry conditions persisted and the kincade fire is burning actively throughout the afternoon, according to cal fire. they worked hard to contain the fire and keep it from spreading into lake county and they are prepared with conditions forecasted for today and the fire may grow across the lake county fire. that means anyone in this area should be prepared to leave. pack your belongings and get ready because of the fire moves in this direction, residents need to be ready to get out immediately. >> on the western side that

we are off western mine road in lake county. what you're looking at behind me is the eastern side of the kincade fire. i'll get out of the way so you can see this. we have been out here for about an hour and a half now. the fire really hasn't spread too much, which is great news, since we have been out here. but we are seeing a lot of flames here and there when trees go up, you know, the big flames and a lot of smoke in the area. like i mentioned, the good news is that it hasn't really spread down the hill or anything like that. but still this is a very intense fire here off western mine road here. not too windy here. the breeze has picked up within the last hour or so and the red flag warning is something firefighters are concerned about today. they are trying to get a handle on this because yesterday they were concerned the fire was pushing east toward the western side of middletown and in lake county. of course middletown was destroyed by the valley fire in 2016, so a lot of people with anxiety there. fire crews were here yes

the lakes now supply the surrounding fields and meadows with water. that's also helping revive a marsh that had run dry. the groundwater level here is rising again. the results of this test are being used by rangers and farmers to devise ways to replenish the water table. in the future this list will be used to be tane water rather than to allow it to flow that also requires cooperation from local farmers. know that in some years the meadow will be too wet and get water logged but we want to cooperate with the ranger association to help preserve life here and we do need the water eventually to. otherwise there won't be enough grass on this meadow for our animals to graze on. the rain today is very welcome retaining water in ditches instead of allowing it to drain away will help plants and animals thrive here in the coming years. exports clean the waters of the future will be fought over one take water after looking at today's episode it doesn't seem surprising does it protecting water means protecting ourselves i hope you'll be mindful of this the nex

in september 1813, the battle of lake erie takes place. this was a big moment because the lake had been controlled by the british up to that point, and that was under american control, so after the americans gained control of lake erie, the british moved out of the area and there really was not a threat here anymore. because there was not such a huge threat, they decided to downgrade fort meigs to a one square acre fort, so they used this quarter here and just abandoned it. the city of harrisburg was founded a year later. we know a family by the name of hayes had a farm on this land. they knew what the earthworks were and what fort meigs was, so they only graze cattle in this area. we like to say they were the first to preserve fort meigs because without them, this would not be here. in the 1970's, the ohio history connection was able to reconstruct fort to look as it would have in the spring and summer of 1813. we really hope that when visitors come to fort meigs, they take a minute to pause and think about what happened here at the fort.
