looking at clear lake california over the next several day, no moisture in the forecast. it's going to remain dry and hot unfortunately. firefighters are really got their work cut out for them. we do have some monsoonal moisture working into the southwest as well as part ofrts the northwest. but that could bring dry lightning, meaning that all of the moisture evaporates before it hits the ground and that could spark more wildfire danger. we have a stationary boundary that's bringing showers and thunderstorms along the gulf coast as well as a cold front for the midwest and the great lakes. the threat for severe weather including large hail damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, right now several thunderstorm warning in around the green bay area northern michigan east of sag snau michigan. this is the airrea of concern. this is going to move eastward and bring the potential for storms for the interior northeast and the ohio valley. forecast highs for monday very hot across the south as well as the east coast. we do have the cold front that's going to move in and bring cooler t

claudia cowan joins us from lake port, california. >> reporter: the rocky fire is massive and burning out of control for the sixth. 65000 acre, and roughly burned the area like the city of sacramento. it is only 12 percent contained. flames crossed a critical fire break yesterday afternoon. this is highway 20, a main artery through town that fire crews were using as a containment line. and the fire raced through the canyon. within minutes it gained a 32 acre foot hold on the north side of the highway and prompted more evacuations. officials expect more today it. >> low humidity and fuel moistures are critical. they are low and the aspect and ignition source and all of them come together like a perfect storm and the fire takes off on you. >> that's what we have here. >> reporter: given the rugged terrain much of the four fight is an air assault. tankers and choppers are dropping flame retardant. and that will buy time for the courthouse on the ground. they have more than 20 other active wildfires in the state. conditions are dry as they can be. the rocky fire here is the state's number

california. the fire grew by 3,000 acres overnight alone. 13,000 people have now been evacuated. two dozen homes destroyed. more than 6,000 structures are still at risk. joining me now from lake port, california, where the fire continues to devour new territory today is nbc's jennifer. it's unprecedented. how are people holding up there? >> it's tough. the firefighters here are exhausted. it's a new firefight every day. it's moving in a different direction through different terrain. and it's shifting. and as much as it's burned already there is still plenty of fuel out there. it's a fuel-driven fire. at one point on monday afternoon it even jumped the highway which they were really hoping would act as a containment line. they couldn't believe it when it happened. and one of the firefighters who was there said, you know, oftentimes you will see sparks and embers sort of cartwheeling over and lighting new brush on other sides of roads, but this was like a flame thrower, balls of fire just shooting out of this monstrous fire that's been growing every day for the last few. right now wildfires are burning in 134,000 acres in the state of california. to put that in perspective, cal
