and the next project is the firearms simulation training facility at the lake merced range? the modular building was fabricated at an off-site facility and it was delivered and shipped to the site and placed on a foundation that was built by a different contractor. that work was completed and the mission police station renovation which is a structural strengthening project at this station is -- has completed 65% design? it's actually further along now, with upcoming mile stones on the various projects, the firearms simulators training facility was supposed to achieve completed construction in april 2018, but due to some late discoveries during construction, it's noing t be completed this monthnd it's actually substantially completed. and the building is done. the simulation system was installed and has been, you know, setup and it's working? next project is the park and ingleside police station renovation. the contractor had mobilized in april and they're actually in active construction right now? mission police station renovation. we're to complete bidding documents in may,

one was along lake merced boulevard. the other was hallway and last was brotherhood way. and we looked at several different design options. and just very briefly what we found, you can take a look at the alternatives there was that hallway was the superior alternatives. in this case, it had to do with cost, it had to do with the establishment of bicycle lanes, pedestrian improve. -- improvements and trees. they with respect neutral in terms of both met our performance octoberives and we used it to inform the process. now in some cases, i'll get into one that's a treatment plant project and you'll see that there is not as pronounced a difference. this is whats the hallway ended up looking like and several of you went to that opening. now we have one for headworks project. this is a great project. our alternatives are all adjacent. one was a site used for metal storage and wrecking, cal train site which is just across evans street. and this is profound and a little -- you know, we get to the grade point where we have neutrality. we don't see as much blue on the chart. the t

we have some very big neighbors, parkmerced to the south, and lake merced and the public golf course there, also. so what's the plan about? in large part, it's about allowing us to offer classes, of course, and in better facilities, like i've mentioned. we're all about teaching, scholarship, research. that's the core of what we do. what we are anticipating as part of this plan is increasing from about 1.5 million square feet to 1.9 million square feet, so about a 400,000 square feet increase in the amount of academic space, and that is the net gain. so if we take away the old buildings and replace them as well, that's what we're looking at. as you can imagine, on a campus as old as ours, we have a great deal of maintenance to address. one ways we'll get away from that is replacing buildings with new ones. and as president huang alluded to, our focus is heavily focused on adding additional housing to the campus. right now when i checked in with colleagues in housing, we have 3,000 students -- prospective students who want to attend, but we have no room to house. we have a significant
