a four alarm fire north of lake merritt has decimated a construction site.e throughout the day here. >>> all right. the time is 7:25. today in yolo county, it could get up to 108 degrees and a wildfire is still burning. it is near the city of winters. it grew to almost 1700 acres late last night. the containment is about 18%. mandatory evacuations have been issued for two communities. this fire started yesterday afternoon. it spread quick because of dry grass and that rugged terrain out there. at least one injury has been reported. >>> now, here in the bay area, sky fox is flying over a grass fire in south livermore. it destroyed a barn and damaged a vineyard. the fire reported just before 1:30 yesterday afternoon along west vineyard avenue near highway 84. it burned about five acres but no injuries have been reported. no evacuations. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >>> and then sasoon city, a brush fire threatened homes near the air force base before flames spread on to the military installation. the fire first reported at 4:15 in the af

this is just north of lake merritt. a huge mixed use development project under construction is up in flames. the fire started shortly before 5:00 this morning. you can see many ladder trucks out there. firefighters with their hoses trying to hose down the outside of the structure, nothing left in the middle of that, the flames have taken all of that. what they are trying to do now is protect the structures around this residential business complex here that is on fire. we know at least one house right next to that structure has caught fire. it is on waverly street. we have seen shots of it from chopper 5. the roof had flames coming out of it and when we looked just about a minute ago, we saw smoke but the firefighters were really trying to douse those flames on top of that house. we do know at least 100 to 200 people in the area have been evacuated from their homes. because this started at such an early time in the morning, people were probably woken up by this probably by alarms or trucks coming through with the sirens

so they're having to fight this from a bit of a distance away. >> yeah, this area is north of lake merrittt to the oakland kia in that area. the acura just down the street. this is also just about two blocks away from west lake middle school. there's a whole foods nearby. this is a dense area. and many people live close by, work close by. there are several grocery stores within walking distance. and this is certainly visible from, you know, far and wide. we're seeing from downtown oakland and north oakland reports that you can see just huge plumes of smoke and huge flames going up into the sky. >> this gives you a better vantage point because sky 7 has pulled out to show you in relation to merritt and where other landmarks are in oakland. you can see the pandora building is not very far from that as well. that doesn't appear to be in danger right now. you do see there are other other mid to high rises which are located just across the street from where the fire is. it appears as if firefighters have been able to keep it from jumping to too many other buildings, but if you look on the left-

a mother is looking for answers after her son is beaten to death near lake merritt in oakland. and the killer is still on the loose this morning. 45-year-old anthony owens was beaten on july 16th near the corner of granda avenue and bay plaza. the killer ran off after a person driving by the attack honked their horn. owens died at the hospital the next morning.(tiffany) and... the marin county coroner has confirmed that a body found in tomales bay is that of charles "tod" friend, the owner of tomales bay oyster company. friend's body was brought to marconi point around 2 p.m. saturday after it was found floating in the bay. investigators believe friend was not wearing a life vest and fell off his boat.( james ) also... hayward police are searching for a teenager with special needs, who has been missing for over a month. 15-year-old larissa oliver was last seen on june tenth. larissa's aunt says she has a mental disability that interferes with her ability to care for herself. she was last scene walking out of the hayward assessment center where she was in custody at the alameda
