it's in the area of stewarts point skaggs spring road near lake sonoma. fire telling us it's about 15% contained. that number's not been going up. video shows a but the scene looked like earlier today. smoke at various times could be seen for miles as the fire grew. the evacuation orders cover fall creek road to stewarts point skaggs spring road and evacuation warning in place west of dry creek road. we talked earlier to get some details on the progress that the crews are facing. jason clay, jason is with cal fire. jason, last time i talked to last hour, you said there are definitely buildings that are gone. maybe homes. do we know anymore? right now? no, don't have type of structures or the numbered yet. >> a lot of that we're going have to wait held a light warning to get those damage inspections done to have that clear but again, there were structures that were destroyed in the fire today. >> and just for people who don't know the area again, jason, there are obviously there are homes in that area. i think some businesses and some wineries in that area

that's right by lake sonoma. sounds good with the water drops.ut, you know, there's homes in vineyards in that area. so air quality is factor here. the air district did issue a spare. the air alert from now until tomorrow. you can even see at this 10:00pm hour. we have oakland, one point a vacaville it. so oakland back right now are under moderate air quality. but at one point we saw some parts of moderate air quality in mill valley and avato. so just be mindful of that. if you are sensitive to that as the fire is blowing east. and here is here are those wind speeds so you can see the direction. it's onshore flow here has a northerly component to it. santa rosa is gusting at 29 miles per hour. so that is pretty breezy still. we will remain breezy along the coast and in the higher elevation throughout the winds should ease just a little bit and then they will be picking back up again in the afternoon and mix this with the dry conditions. last check, a relative humidity will be down to the single digits in sonoma and napa counties tomorrow afternoo

there's lake sonoma. so if you're around that area, you know exactly where this is. and you can see how the fire, with the way the winds were yesterday, really rapidly took off from around lake sonoma and then pushed off towards the south and also the east. so right now it's just butted up right here against dry creek road. temperature of 86, humidity down to a very dry 17. we have northwest wind gusts here at 12mph. could get gusts up to about 25. tomorrow 87 winds out of the west at 13 and some winds up to about 25. so the way the winds blowing, i think into tomorrow, we would still see the fire trying to push towards dry creek road at this point. so hopefully we'll be able to keep those containment numbers with wind gusts only hitting at about 25. now we're still under a red flag fire warning here right through 8:00 tonight. this does include, lakeport, cobb, middletown, also mountains around napa, sonoma, saint helena and sonoma. we could get some isolated gusts, up to about 40 in that low humidity, as i talked about. and then this fire warning really stretches h

we did see that fire over the weekend up around lake sonoma. ty and then upper elevations of lake and napa counties as well. these remain in effect through 08:00pm tonight. humidity this afternoon, bone dry dropping as low as 10%. you got on top of that winds gusting as high as 30 miles per hour, especially for the inland areas of the north bay as well as east bay. and that's what result of the heightened fire danger you can see here. you had all these metrics together, areas of yellow and orange on the map indicating that high fire danger into the afternoon, mostly for hillsides, upper elevations, which will be looking at the strongest of gusts later on today. now, as far as today's temperatures are concerned, not so hot in san francisco, just 60's and 70's 60's at the coast. a lot of sunshine out there. actually a gorgeous day along the coast today. 70's to 80's for the rest of us and definitely a warm one, although is dari alluded to, not our hottest just yet are going to say that for your first few days of summer heyward at 78 oakland. also

here on the eastern side of lake sonoma. we can see the fire with smoke rising into the sky. even helicopters as part of that response from the air as cal fire enters a 2nd day, trying to get control over the fire now we are told that while they have made significant progress, they also see plenty of challenges ahead on the 2nd day, more than 400 people have been evacuated and another 400 are in a warning zone and need to be on standby to leave. the difficult factors firefighters face today include the win a rough terrain, especially on the west side >>of >>the fire is created from previous fire while the last 2 years were considered mild, it's been a tough start to the season this year has it's unusual to see a fire like this and sonoma county in mid june. >>the work for these firefighters today is to protect those homes while trying to suppress the fire at the same time, that's a huge ask is that terrain is very, very steep. it's very, very dangerous. >>we know that 1 firefighter was injured on sunday. a he actually had to be airlifted off of the hill and is in the hospital

we are near lake sonoma. those retardant bombers now a common sight in the skies over wine country today. this fire started yesterday afternoon. quickly growing to about 1200 acres. you can see some of the aerial fight here. the good news is, this isn't spreading very much. that's the silver lining. cal fire though attacking this from the air and on the ground. containment has grown just a little bit to 20. now, just a few minutes ago, cal fire confirmed at least two homes have been destroyed. video shows some of the structures on fire. our sky ranger spotted some of the burned out buildings. now evacuation orders are still in effect in dry creek valley. here's a map here. dry creek valley is dotted with some private vineyards, ranches, and farms. the county says 240 people have been told to leave, with another 400 people under evacuation warnings, though some people have decided just to defy all of those orders and stay and protect their homes. one man says he watched two homes burn from his own front yard.

the operator of a horse riding ranch above lake sonoma called off planned rides today when the fire started just after 1230 in the afternoon. she's hoping it continues to move away from her property. as it stands, we're not in the evacuation zone because the fire's going the opposite direction, but, if they do evacuate us, then we'll be ready to go tonight. she's concerned about friends and neighbors in the dry creek area under evacuation orders, but staying home despite the warnings, at least for now. some are doing their own work to protect their homes. they're just waiting and they're watching their farmers, you know? yeah a lot of ranches down there, a lot of ranches and farmers, cal fire hopes everyone evacuates in those mandatory zones because the wind and terrain make the fire unpredictable. and the steep hillsides are covered in manzanita, madrone and oak trees. those are highly combustible plant species. and here in healdsburg, well outside the evacuation zones, everyone is paying close attention to what's happening. knowing entire neighborhoods here could be ordered to evacuate. i

so we have lake sonoma up here and then we have merlot creek. that's right here. merlot lake, that's also one of the areas within where we're seeing those fires popping up. and it's kind of different spots all around this area. well, we are right now at 65 degrees, as in terms of our current conditions, we have a light wind. humidity is now dropping earlier this morning it was in the 6,570% range which is more humidity. that slows the spread of the fire. but the more that this number drops, the drier the areas and the more quickly we could also see those fire spreading. not only that, but we are now under a red flag warning, including those hills and much of the north bay and solano county extending over toward the sacramento valley. we have extremely low humidity developing along with some gusty winds, which elevates the fire danger and so far the smoke has been contained to the north bay. the light blue shading shows a hazy sky, but where you start to see the yellows, the reds, the oranges, that's a little bit more unhealthy air quality and that will begin to sp

this is the one. >> up by lake sonoma. we zoom out here, you can see the temperatures obviously cooler than yesterday, which is, you know, pretty good. so we're at 81 degrees in healdsburg. and when does all under that 10 mile per hour range. and ali, that but we from the north in kind of blowing it down in our direction or sending the fire changer in that direction either. now we do still have some pretty low relative humidity levels a little bit better here. healdsburg now 24%. that has to do with that marine layer coming in kind of helping to get that moisture recovery in the overnight hours. and we're still a litt dry in a spot like livermore 18%. but, you know, yesterday we were looking at single digits in some spots. so it's a little bit of an improvement there. having said that, the point fire is now 50% contained. so much bigger fire in southern california over 15,000 acres. they now have 39% containment. made some progress there. i do think it is the sites fire that we're going to be concerned about with smoke. an
