if you are heading to the shores of lake tahoe, there might not be a shore to stand on because the unusuallywy winter has caused the lake to rise, shrinking the beaches. the tahoe daily tribune says the recent measurement has lake tahoe five feet above its natural rim. the level is still rising and may not peak until the end of the month. more than 61 feet of snow fell in the sierra this season, that is second most on record. >> caltrans's officials want you to watch for construction workers as you drive in to work. the agency is starting a campaign along with the california highway patrol to remind drivers to move over, it's the law. officials say drivers should slow down and move over a lane if possible whenever they see flashing lights. the campaign comes in response to a string of caltrans worker deaths due to drivers not taking precautions. >> the final pieces of the eastern span of the bay bridge will soon make their way to the bay area. crews are loading those pieces of steel girder and tower onto a transport ship today in china. it's going to make a 22-day voyage from shanghai to oak

be cautious if you are headed to lake tahoe. >> friends and family of a good samaritan killed mournedath. police are releasing the description of the car they say was used wednesday in that drive-by shooting in oakland. "today in the bay's" cheryl hurd filed this report shortly after a candle light vigil held for the man known as brother john. >> reporter: this is a case where police need your help. a family in mourning and a community that says they lost someone who truly cares about them. lolita powell, the wife of the good samaritan, gunned down while trying to feed the hungry could barely stand as she tried her best to attend the candle light vigil friday night in east oakland. >> his wife is hurting. his family is hurting oh god. you say you came to heal the broken hearted. >> reporter: paris powell, better known as brother john was shot and killed as he and his family stopped by to drop off food. his family says feeding the homeless was his calling. his pregnant wife and her two children were in the car at the time when powell was shot in the head in a drive-by shooting. bill ho

the incidents include a rape and kidnapping in 1972, three similar crimes in south lake tahoe area in 1976 and kidnapping of jaycee dugard in 1991. officials released this 1978 hand written letter by garrido asking to reduce his prison jents after a rape and torture conviction. he blames problems on years of lds use. other items include evidence he tried to destroy with chemicals. one of his antioch neighbors spoke about a recent interview with jaycee dugard. >> i was heart broken to think that we lived here in that poor little thing having the baby, being out there. all alone z we couldn't help her. because we didn't know she was there. >> and other documents show parole officer believed everything was fine just days after she was kidnapped. one of his earlier victims is sharing her story, including her fears he'd go on to attack other women. he twont prison in 1977 for rape and torture of katie calloway hill, she was assured she would be contacted when he was released. garrido tracked her down in 1988 at a casino where she worked. >> he said i haven't had a cocktail in 11 years, kat

and an unusual sight at lake tahoe.eople hitting the ski slopes in july. >> good evening, everyone. i'm allen wong, rescue teams considering calling off a search for seven u.s. tourists, most passengers on that boat are from the bay area. the boat cap sized yesterday morning during a storm in the sea of cortez about 60 miles south of san felipe. we're live in san ramone where one of the missing passengers is from. >> this is an anxious time. they're waiting to hear the fate of their neighbor donald lee, one of eight people still missing out of a total number of 44 passengers and crew members. a surprise storm swept them into the sea when the fishing boat, the eric cap sized. somehow, 37 passengers and crew members managed to get get to shore. some had life vests, some did not. 43-year-old michael ng was among them. >> he had to do some swimming. they had life jackets on. they did have time to put on life jackets, so that is a good thing. he's a strong swimmer, i'm glad. >> but current were strong and ng and two others h

heading up to the high country, 90 in yosemite with 78 at lake tahoe. rays are in town to take on the a's, 61 dropping down to kind of a cool 57 degrees by the time the game ends. we'll continue to drop to mid-50s in most neighborhoods. notice where the green is east bay hills, the peninsula, even off to the coast. that is where we'll find the drizzle for tomorrow morning's commute. look at the water vapor imagery, trough of low pressure digging right here. that is what is going to keep us cool today and tomorrow. this starts to lift wednesday, notice the small warming trend. temperatures get closer to average on thursday and then friday, saturday and sunday, temperatures above average mid-80s around the bay but kind of cool at the coast with low to mid-60s. >> dumbville, a picture of me?
