as you go up to lake tahoe, still some lingering scattered snow showers from a system that was positionedainly away from the bay area. but bringing some impacts here. however, and the next 72 hours we are looking at heavier snow totals coming our way. right now numbers unbelievable at this hour. already tracking a 40-degree reading in gilroy at 49. 51 in livermore. 54 in concord. as many of you know with temperatures this cold at this hour, we are setting ourselves up for a bitterly cold start for tomorrow. not only that, but enough low level moisture we'll have some areas of patchy frost. through tuesday, mainly dry with the chance here of some evening showers getting introduced by later on in the day and then as we look ahead, we have this second blast of some rain and also some wind coming into our forecast. it's all about this cold front dropping down from the gulf of alaska. it will bring us a reinforcing shot of cold air over the next 48 hours and then the big thing that all of us want is that rainfall in this bay area that's now setting into somewhat of a drought. throughout wednes

and looking from heavenly camera they did get a little bit of snow in the lake tahoe area. some resorts from about one to three inches of snow with this system. there was a weak one, it's gone. so there is a lovely view from our camera. there is still high clouds moving through and will be with us tonight. by tomorrow morning we'll be dealing with fog. there is how much we've received. there is trace amounts for oakland and some areas didn't measure there is perhaps a few sprinkles there. temperatures into 50s and 60s. they're going up next couple days and partly cloudy skies tonight. patches of fog and our dry pattern lasts through the weekend. and then, there are changes coming back in next week. there is going to be a colder night. high clouds not going to insulate us so do look for temperatures to drop. there is coldest locations santa rosa. you'll see patches of fog and there is by morning do count on foggy conditions for that commute. 40s for the coast and around the bay. here is a look at the forecast for ground hog day. most areas i think groundhog is going to see h

this year's weird winter weather is creating confusion for lake tahoe's bears.al behavior and food supply is tied to the season. so lots of warm, dry weather when it should be cold and wet is bad news for bears. in this morning's assignment 7 report, dan ashley tells us why that may be dad news for people, too. >>> when ann takes a winter walk near lake tahoe, she does not expect to see any bears. they should be hibernating. but this year things are just out of whack. >> we had some that went to bed and then got back up when the weather warmed up. >> she runs the bear league. it's a network of 200 volunteers that help people and bears share the tahoe basin peacefully. the league gave us this video of bears out and about when they should be tucked in their dense. it was one of the best-ever summers for bears. that's best as in very few confrontations with people. and she credits last year's heavy snow that created a lot of food. >> when the snow started melting and the water started to flow, the green-up occurred and it was like someone flipped a switch and the b

still 60s in the central valley, 40s in the lake tahoe area, 50s at yosemite.y area spectacular temperatures this afternoon with mostly sunny skies all the way to the coast alone, 64 sunnyvale, 62 half moon bay. east bay temperatures soaring this afternoon as high as 66 in pleasanton, 67 degrees in the napa valley and we'll probably find the warmest temperatures in the north bay. that's where we're going to see some of those down slope winds and as that air sinks and starts to warm up, about 68 degrees, almost 70 in santa rose. 68 in petaluma and 66 degrees in novato. so looking out over the next couple of days, we have plenty of sunshine coming our way, a few more clouds on the friday and saturday and through the weekend but temperatures not cooling down much. there is a good chance of rain now continuing in the forecast. looks like next tuesday we get back to wet weather and hopefully that will open the door towards more rain. but right now, nothing but sunshine. we haven't opened the storm door. just winter. >> plowing through winter and it's just -- >> runn

and very close by here in lake tahoe. finding scattered snow showers, 5 to 12 inches of snow in 24 hours. this will start to wind down. and head out tonight. another. stronger round of snow for the bay area coming our way this week. numbers right now, bittery cold. 48, san jose. 49 in napa. and some low level moisture left. we thing we will have areas of patchy frost. plan for that in your commute tomorrow. doing scraping on the windshield. throughout tuesday areas of sunshine. but by the evening hours. that's when we will introduce rain. snow levels could go as low as 2,000 feet. maybe even lower. with this second reinforcing shot of cold air coming from the next cold front. that is going to be diving down from the gulf of alaska. here is the impressive thing. we think totals could bring a half inch to inch. storm center was near us. a major storm. we are more modern on the scale of things for us. producing soaking rain as we head throughout wednesday. your time line will introduce the chance here of rain. we head throug

lake tahoe picked up a quick burst. good news for them.far as the travel goes, it should improve throughout the morning on interstate 80. a little enhancement here just recently. probably an hour or two of snow here. a little weak storm system heading through. winds will get gusty in the days after that. first off, we have to get rid of this storm system. a little bit of rain heading for fresno down interstate 5. it's quick moving. it will probably last about a half hour in most places. that's the storm system. you can see it kicking through -- moving pretty much from the northwest yesterday just due south. behind it, a little bit of high pressure will move in had. the next frontal system will move in friday. the forecast today, we're okay in the northwest today. okay in san francisco. we have to kick that system through vegas and l.a. during the afternoon hours. that's a look at your wednesd areas in arizona, look for an increase in clouds. no big storms heading for the west. this is really about it. should be tranquil after this. >> bill
