still a little wet near lake tahoe. yeah, in fact, they're just kind of getting things started in lake tahoe. they've had some rain throughout the day today. you certainly see that on the camera here as we take a live look at incline village. they've also been under a >> lake wind advisory of 40 degrees right now, south lake tahoe. it is raining right now. wind about 60 miles per hour out of the south. but the bigger story is they're starting to see some snowfall. and you can see that here as we zoom in and those areas and blew up in elevation. we're starting to see that turnover. that's going to happen from rain to snow as we get into the evening. that's why they're under the winter weather advisory through midnight tonight. and all the area you see here, including, of course, south lake tahoe, right down to mammoth lakes, so we're talking about about 2 to 4 inches of snow above 7,000 feet. that will lower a little bit. the the level of snow as we get tomorrow morning. and basically it's changing over this afternoon in

lake tahoe at lake level, less than an inch of it. so it's not a ton of it. but as we move into next week, we're going to be adding up a little bit more on top of that. and by the time that we reach next week, lake tahoe, seeing another 5 inches or so. so this is good news. you're going to get even more at those higher slopes. so resorts certainly looking forward to that. i'm going to talk about some rain here, too, because look at this. the bay area, we're not really tapping into any rainfall or at least any significant rain in the days ahead of us. but look, what happens when you head north of mendocino up towards your recap, we're going to see multiple atmospheric rivers taking aim at the coast of oregon and washington in the process of that, the risk of flooding into next week for our neighbors, the states to the north of us really del norte humboldt counties right on the north coast of the state. we'll be tapping into some of that moisture. but the bay area not so much. we're going to be way too far south. those moisture plume squared up to our north and

you can see the flakes coming down earlier today and this is video from lake tahoe.ou can see some of that snow kind of sticking to the hood of this black car. a winter weather advisory is in effect now. let's check in with first alert chief meteorologist paul heggen. we'll be skiing pretty soon up in lake tahoe. >> sooner rather than later, especially with more rain chances in the forecast a little farther down the line. it looks like a calmer pattern the rest of this week, but the winter weather advisory for the high sierra is in effect and continues through 10:00 tomorrow. up to 5 inches of total snow accumulation, the snow level around 5,000, 6,000 feet or so and gusty conditions, especially at higher elevations. we'll get wind gusts up to around 40 miles an hour, so anticipate slippery conditions if you're heading up that way on u.s. 50 or i-80. we've seen rain around the bay area, ominous looking clouds, anywhere from a few hundredths of an inch of rain in san jose to almost 1 inch in the north bay around rohnert park. generally it's been about a quarter to hal

so up there right now, the winds have been whipping up across lake tahoe. this is in pine village. you can see a little wet on the ground there. but >> look at lake, the other. you see all the waves out there on the lakers, the winds kind of kicking around a bit. so if you're traveling in the high country, yeah, you got to be careful. we've got some snow there across the sierra. nevada could all the way down to about 6500 feet. so that means the mountain passes. you could see some snow headed over there. make sure bring your chains if you're heading that direction. we've got to make sure some rain down below. you're going to see some showers continue overnight tonight. in fact, a winter weather advisory has been posted until midnight tonight. could see as much as 3, maybe 6 inches of snow across some of the higher peaks there specially above 7,000 feet or so. but again, you could even see some dusting of snow all the way down the lake level at lake tahoe. so watch out for that things changing in the high country. snow amounts not going to be gigantic with this system over. just get

we see south lake tahoe kind of a quiet night out there right now. the roadways open and clear. so if you're traveling up there, you're looking good this weekend, it will be a dry weekend in the high country. temperatures moving in the mid 50's on saturday and sunday. cooling down a little bit on monday. but it's after monday. the things really start to get if the impossibly stormy in the high sierra and the bay area too other. right now, though, it is a quiet evening on the golden gate bridge. we're looking good out there right now. but the pacific, it is getting more and more active and you can see the birthplace of many of our storms in the gulf of alaska. boy that has really get wound up. now. and it looks like eventually one of these storms going just a punch right through. so the weekend, the good news is if you've got plans should be a nice weekend. forecast model showing just some dry conditions on saturday. sunday looks good, too, although likely going to see some more clouds and then you see that big green blob getting a little bit closer and then well, that low pressu

south lake tahoe. low that we had yesterday is now about ready to exit stage right from northern arizona into the new mexico flagstaff. a lot of snow on i-40 this morning. they're also a little bit of activity in southern california yesterday. not a lot. it's still a little bit kind of hanging around san diego and just offshore. the jet stream continues to favor areas just to the north of us. we're just too far south in this pattern. but boy, oh, boy, there's going to be some hefty totals here, mostly cloudy rain north or those hefty totals will be in the pacific northwest. what is contributing to this? well, you get the abundant moisture, but what's also contributing is what's called the cone of low. if you're going to the hawaiian islands, there will be an umbrella in your drink and you better have one over your head, too, because that's a big system, but that funnels in a lot of moisture which goes northward, feeding into what's going to be some big time totals. crescent city up to portland, seattle

yeah, we've got some unsettled conditions here in the bay area, but i want to talk about lake tahoe ford live. look here at incline village. you can see they've got rain. they also have a lake wind advisory. >> and they've got some snow on the way. so right now it is just rain. you can see the temperatures south lake tahoe about 42 degrees wind about 17 miles per hour. as we zoom out there, you can see some snow already starting to fall. it's some of the higher spots up elevation and a little bit of lightning kind of rolling along highway 50 as well. so all of the energy from what we had come bring us some showers has now headed to the sierra. and that is why there are under winter weather advisory that does go until midnight tonight. so when we get into the afternoon, things are going to start changing from snow showers over to just pure snow. expecting about 2 to 4 inches above 7,000 feet between about 04:00pm and 10:00pm. that's we're going to have kind of the most of it falling slick roads, delays gust to 45 miles per hour. you could see some chains on tires. that's kind of thing re

lake tahoe for the weekend of the models disagree on this. some say it will be all done by the weekend. others say it may hang out for a little bit longer. so we're again piecing this together to get some details. it does look a parent from our geography that santa clara county rather the santa cruz mountains looks like you might get hammered pretty hard with this 2.67, san francisco for the 4 zone forecast and down here lower 60's. this the zone that's going to get hit hard as we're showing you on that model run upper 60's on bayside. 69 foster city. 69 also palo alto in the south bay. lower 70's looks like morgan hill. 72 and meanwhile, livermore it 70 east bay shoreline, upper 60's. so we're close, temperature-wise, different comparison, 70 for walnut creek berkeley at a chilly 64. 67 for richmond 62 filet o 69 for fairfield with napa. it's 67 70 for santa rosa. so it's very apparent for the weekend looking 2 thumbs up on that front. looking good for our veterans, too. and sunday may be some scattered clouds to make note of things changed

the temperatures from the lower 50s from salt lake, tahoe to 80 degrees in san diego, if you are staying around in the bay area the temperatures look just fine. take a look at inland parts of the bay area, the temperatures will peak on thanksgiving. reaching up to the lower 70s. the warmer spots, middle 70s. a mix of upper 60s and 70s. the cool down, the coolest days in the forecast, still a couple degrees above average. we will keep it around as long as we can. nice to see another wave of rain heading our way. not happening in the near term, though. we are talking about dry weather, passing clouds, then again, the clouds will be high up in the atmosphere and not substantial enough to block the sunshine. really, filtering it out wednesday. after a partly cloudy start on wednesday, breaking through for plenty of sunshine for thanksgiving afternoon. then, the full sunshine sticking around friday, saturday, sunday and monday. along the coast, not seeing a lot of fog for the next several days, it is nice when you get good weather in time for a four day week end >> thank you very much, paul.
