the shooter is jimmy lam, a disgruntled u.p.s. employee. our detectives were there as our detectived searched his home. >> we're also learning more about the victims. one of them is being remembered as a longtime u.p.s. delivery man who made a lot of friends on his route. we have a team of reporters covering all angles on this breaking story. let's begin with nbc bay area cheryl hurd live near the u.p.s. facility. cheryl? >> reporter: some of the roads are open right now but 17th street is still closed down. this investigation will not be rushed. he wants to determine exactly what went on here. it all started to unfold at 9:00 a.m. that's when gunfire erupted. as workers ran to safety on the roof of the u.p.s. building, lewis williams says he was down below in the middle of a chaotic scene when shots rang out at the u.p.s. service distribution center in san francisco. >> all of a sudden, there was shots fired on the opposite corner and i looked down and someone -- a man fell to the ground. >> reporter: the shooting happened just before 9:00

we are getting our first look at the gunman jimmy lam. he showed up to work last week to kill five coworkers. police are releasing new details about this shooting. >> reporter: police say jimmy lam brought two stolen weapons to work last week and targeted his victims. the police released a picture of the man. released pictures of the two stolen weapons that he brought to work. a mac ten. and a semiautomatic stolen. he fired 20 of 30 rounds. walking past some people without shooting and walking up to the victims and shooting them without saying a word. >> the shooting of mr. louis, mr. chan and mr. lefiti. >> reporter: lam went outside and shot driver mike lefiti before going back into the building. when police encountered lam they say he shot and killed himself. police say that saved others. at this point police are still searching for a motive. they are looking at a computer, cell phones and a journal that they retrieved from his home. this is still an active investigation. reporting live. >> the gun used in the shooting was a mack 10. y
