joining us joe carr who's challenging veteran tennessee republican senator lamar alexander.in us. does senator alexander go the way of eric cantor? >> well, we certainly believe he will, sara. thank you for having me on "squawk" this morning. i think senator alexander has a similar problem that leader cantor had in that he's out of touch with his republican base in tennessee. >> for those of us who haven't been following the senate race in tennessee, immigration shaped up to be a huge issue in virginia. it has been one of your talking points as well. tell us where you stand on immigration reform, and amnesty and how it differs senator alexander's position? >> i've been serving the tennessee general assembly for the last six years and i have been fortunate to be the architect and arthur of some of the strongest illegal immigration bills in tennessee, whether e-varify or the save bill or no sanctuary cities or resolution recognizing governor jan brewer's right in arizona to defend her state from illegal immigrants. the problem lamar alexander has and so many of the establishme

from outside of washington, in terms of the other races like thad cochran in mississippi and lamar alexander, it feels like the establishment is pouring money into races and it will still be uphill battle for the tea party to get their guys elected or past the primaries. >> if there's one productive outcome, it will be -- allow groups that are sort of kind of funding and supporting candidates to raise more money. i think that the regret that they must have is that this election happened so late in the primary process with the big deal races they hoped to influence behind them. with that being the case, i think the electoral beyond cantor's race is probably limited. as howard mentioned there wasn't much happening on the hill anyway. the legislative impact is limit. if kevin mccarthy gets the house majority leader position, the leadership impact will be limited. in the end, the whole thing might end up being a bust with unexception-the election the house has to fund the government again. >> which is heavy lift for this house. >> if there's they're smart, they'll kick the funding part the elect
