general landry?>> i really am concerned about the direction of the federal courts currently, and i'm very hopeful that this administration starts to put in place just like they did with justice gorsuch, continue to put in place originalists and strict constructionist in all of the courts, whether it be at the circuit level or at the district level as well. the reason i say that is because i'm out there, more and more i'm at the waffle house, okay, or at walmart. and talk, and i start to talk to people who really would never talk about the role of a federal judge -- the role. and the anger and angst that you hear from average citizenry out there based upon what they're seeing out there in the federal courts to me is troublesome. because what will happen is we'll end up with an uprising, meaning through our democratic process, to our elected officials that is going to impact those federal courts. and maybe in a way that may be negative to what we've seen in this country. and so i'm hopeful that this ad

landry, do you have questions? >> thank you, mr. chairman. one additional question i had, we had a discussion a while ago about cost-cutting targets. last winter we learned of a report that stated $125 billion could be saved for five years if you don't waste in the department. this accounts for about 4% of dod outlays and they're the types of savings that companies try to achieve through cost-cutting practices and while i'm disappointed that this report was initially bierried within the department, i think there are valuable lessons that can be learned from it. how do you believe we can best meet these cost-saving objectives and how have you seen the department implement some o seen the department implement some of the more actionable efficiencies? >> well, the report came out of the defense business board. it wasn't buried at all. easily accessible on the web. it was probably briefed. we all talked about it. nobody was told you couldn't talk about it. so i don't know where that whole thing came from, quite frankly. but to the substance of yo

cassidy: i rise to pay homage to rose landry. the state of louisiana lost a loving mother, a grandmother and a dear friend. rose landry long left us too soon, but she will always be remembered. my wife laura and i had the pleasure of knowing prose and her wonderful family for over ten years. we taught two of her grandchildren in our sunday school class. rose was born to a french-speaking cajun family and he english was her second language. she graduated from gaton high school and became the first person from her family to attend college. there she met her husband, gerald long, at northwestern university. a sidenote about gerald. he's member of the famous long family, which includes huey long, earl long, speedy long, jaime long, and many others. respectively, senators, governors, congressmen, and state elected officials. when gerald was elected to the louisiana senate, rose came to baton rouge and befriended everyone, republican and democrat alike. just being so loving toward others, she became the symbol of encourage to many. ros
