lang, lang capital management, why it is time to reallocate our allocations. i'm sure he was doing it last week. chris gersch in the pits of the cme, nicole on the floor of the nyse. we begin with chris gersch. the morning started on a very bad foot, ism, institute for supply management manufacturing index fell precipitously, still in growth mode, not contraction but was that honestly enough to give us a 300-point loss. >> it was. what that meant to the occur currency markets and bond markets here in chicago. all of sudden everyone jumping into the yen. huge yen strength. 10-year three-month low on the yield that carried over the s&p pit right behind me. these guys could not catch a bid for anything. series of lower lows and lower highs throughout the day. flowed all the way down continued throughout the day. david: jeff, you're thinking of gold and silver in a day like today as a place to go for safety but is there any stock, as you look at this debacle today, any stock, any equity class you're looking at right now, or are you still waiting for the bottom to drop? >> i think utilities would be a good place to hide right now. yeah, i think we have further to go. my biggest concern i'm telling clients last 30 days, is amount of leverage that is being used in the markets. if we get somewhere between eight to 10% correction, how is all this leverage going to be unwounded? will it really going to accelerate the market decline? if it does, now will the fed have to step in and go a different direction? that is why i've been kind of favoring silver and gold because if they have to step into the market and print more money you could start to see gold and silver take off. liz: gold and silver, as we see what they did other session today, the move, i'm not quite sure that one really bad market day, although we retrace ad lot of the losses in the past couple months in the markets but up $16. that is just a 1% gain here. nicole what were the traders chattering about? what did they believe was big issue today. >> i don't think they expected to see a drop we saw over 2% on the major averages. the idea here was basically risk off. they sold everything across the board sector to sector. the idea that the market is not for the faint of heart. you have to be willing to take the swings of this market but we started out 2014 in a tough way. you heard ben willis say there is buying opportunity for companies you may like. we saw a few up arrows on names like aol which had an upgrade from needham and pfizer which has a breast cancer drug they're working on but for the most part when you start to get manufacturing numbers and hearing lower, they're cutting the orders and lower production, then everybody begins to worry about the global economy. and everybody is looking to friday. that is the jobs report. don't forget the last jobs report was weak. that is also worrisome. david: by the way we talk about that, the jobs report specifically with richard fisher coming up. so much of the focus is on whatever sector has any signs of hope left in it. and, pete lang, you see a number of sectors that do including shipping but i have to ask you, in light of these ism numbers, what are the shippers going to be shipping except for consumer goods? >> well, i would like to look at the market today basically, reevaluating what your sell discipline is overall. when we look at whether you're in bond or equities, what i like to say is that when do you go to cash in each of those areas? especially in the equity markets right now. i haven't seen anything really scaring me in the equity markets for a long-term play. i think high yielding dividend stocks are really pretty safe as long as you have a disciplined sell perspective. >> is the best way, pete, to do that through on etf that focuses specifically on dividend play officers. >> i'm not so sure, liz, that is the right answer. when you look at institutional investors, they're growing to have those tactical overlay that is are going to be built in and in essence what you're doing, you're not trying to time

>> nice to meet you. >> we want your best to come u cosmo magazine editor and chooep chief and the photographer, we offered up ourselves as case. we've all seen a hundred or a thousand photos of ourselves. >> my tummy. if i could fix something, that would be it. >> i'd make my arms thinner. i'd take away a few wrinkles. >> we'd take a little of the crow's feet around the eyes out or if we make take circles around the eyes and take those away, i don't think anybody can complain. >> as soon as the camera stopped clicking, the selection process began. >> no. nope. actually, go back. that's kind of nice. but it's a bit blah. >> he could probably shorten his tie in that shot. >> that's a nice shot. you can open al's eyes there. so on i think we have some stuff to work on here. >> then, the keyboard, mouse and tablets went to work. >> in the magazines, we're trying to present the best self of someone. you're looking for on things that restore them as opposed to recreate them. >> the magic of technology, one click at a time. real beauty or computer generated perfection? >> if you change who i am as a person or any of us are as people and change our complete appearances, then it's ridiculous and you might as well have a painting. you might as well have an artist in here painting a portrait because it's not realistic. >> when a photograph is so clearly overly photo shopped, i think you're not doing a service to that person. i think you're also not doing a service to the people who are looking at that picture and saying, is this what i have to strive for? this is their view of perfection. >> somebody can photo shop you and maybe make you a little different, a little better. but you know who you are. >> a lot of times, the good picture is taken when someone is feeling happy inside and it just comes through. and there's no amount of on photo shopping that can do that. >> the real you and the best you. >> joe anna cole is with us now. we're ready to see what her team has done to us. so once again, here is our untouched original photo up on the screen here. now let's take a look at what happens with a little bit of touching. this is probably a cover photo that, joe annannejoannea, you w approve. let's take a look at the second one. that is the second one. now with some extreme retouching. >> oh, boy. >> wow. >> okay. joanne -- >> are my boobs bigger? i'm just saying, that doesn't look like me. >> and my hair. lordy. >> how much work between number one, two and three. >> between the actual picture, the picture that we would use in the magazine, there were 15 specific things that we did. and i call it tidying up. so what happens when you go into a studio is often the light slightly distorts things. so we made slight changes to the color of your roots. we tidied up some wrinkling on your suit, the tail of your jacket at one point. i think we removed one of our hands. the big change we made was opening one of al's eyes because we -- the photo was perfect except that he had one eye slightly closed because when you have four people together, it's difficult to capture everybody, you know, perfect moment. >> you're familiar with the controversy. some people think that magazines such as yours, all these photo shop so much that it sets up an unrealistic expectation and makes people feel bad about themselves. what do you think about that? >> it's a criticism i'm aware of. at cosmo, we never do anything to change somebody's body size. that's one of the crucial red lines. what we will do is we will do something to distort it, we might -- if someone comes in with a cold sore or a zit, we might remove us and they may beg us to do that. and sometimes when you're shooting for the cover, the celebrity is very stressed by it. i have to say, you guy were so brilliant in front of the camera, you're familiar with it, you live it. but most people are not that comfortable in front of the camera, even very well known actresses and they get very stressed about doing a photo shoot. they might get cold feet. so we would take those out. we once had a celebrity who had been doing some cutting and was very anxious that her scars didn't show. >> natalie has a question. you're seeing all the changes that were made. >> the extreme photo shopping. so at cosmo, you all are very careful about where you draw the line. other magazines, though, there's been some controversy. for example, the lena dunham picture in vogue, the cover, she actually loves her photos. but lady gaga was in glamour magazine and she took the magazine to task for overdoing it and creating an unrealistic version of herself. >> she seems to me someone who has broken all sorts of extraordinary rules about putting herself out there. it's unfortunate that they don't recognize themselves, clearly. and i don't know what actually went on there. but you can see what you can do. and here we change the color of the background, we change the color of the outfit. matt, i'm afraid we gave you a little bit more hair, we gave everybody extraordinary bright white teach. this is the sort of fantasy version that you wouldn't want to put out because no one would believe this. >> i'm 56 years old. i think some photographers are great with lighting, then there's great makeup, and times the pictures come out fine. but if i wake up at 4:00 in the morning for the last four years, if i take a picture and there are circles under my eyes, i wouldn't mind if someone helped me out. >> that's one area -- i do think that people are much more savvy about it now. everybody has a photo on instagram, everybody is posting pictures of themselves on facebook. no one wants a bad photo. >> and it was fun. your team was great to work with. thank you so much. >> thank you for doing it, as well. >> we're back after your local news. . >>> a very good morning to you. 8:26 i'm laura garcia-cannon. crews say it could be several hours before they reopen all of the lanes of the southbound 101 through morgan hill. a tanker spilled nearly 8,000 gallons of gas earlier. fish and wild life officials are investigating because the hundreds of gallons of fuel spilled into a creek that feeds into the ocean. the thing is that it was southbound. northbound i understand there are problems there too, mike?
