langton, please begin. >> good afternoon. thank you for inviting me here today to discuss the bureau of justice statistics' efforts to understand the level and nature of hate crime experienced by residents of our country. as deputy assistant attorney general noted in his earlier remarks, the department of justice and the bureau of justice statistics have long recognized the importance of having accurate and reliable data on hate crime, and we continually work to improve our efforts to provide better and more timely data. as you know, the department of justice administers the country's two primary collections of statistical data on hate crime. the first is the fbi's hate crime statistics program, which of course part of the ucr. these data are compiled by local law enforcement agencies and reflect crimes that are known to police and recorded as hate crimes by police. the second source of statistical data, which i'll focus more on today, is the bureau of justice statistics national crime crick timization survey. the ncvs is a h

hello, my wife owns the building at 176-180 langton street, had it for ten years. and it's really our little oasis in soma and we wanted to mention our support for this project, because all the work hanover has done to really retain the brick wall that is in the back of our property, there was a previous sdmrien that talked about having windows in a depressed area.des windows in a depressed area. our tenants like it, we like it, we have children and obviously having 371 additional units in the neighborhood is going to be terrific, because our biggest problem is blight and homeless on our street. and the fact that so many people actually live in front of our door every day. we have to kind of step over homeless people and there are people shooting up with heroin and all kinds of other things. we're hoping that 371 additional houses in the neighborhood is going to get more attention to langton street and the environment around. hanover has done their part and we appreciate that and look forward to having them as a neighbor and addition to our community. >> president

the question i have to miss langton is, in your power point you have that approximately 50% of the national crime victimization survey of crime, hate crimes, are reported. compared to i guess you have a couple of different databases. how does that compare to overall crime which are reported? >> commissioner, would you mind moving your microphone up. >> i think i broke it. >> maybe you can switch with commissioner harris. >> that's a great question and it's actually pretty consistent with what we see for violent crime in general. the percentage that is reported gets higher when you talk but serious violent crime, which we detine friday rape, sexual assault, robly and aggravated assault but that is fairly consistent with violence crime. >> the second question is in employment discrimination there's concept called mixed motive. someone can make out a prima facie says they tar system grated against. their employee says no, he was fired because he burned down the warehouse. in other words there could be two reasons but if the employer can establish that's person would have been discharged anyway
