lanny davis has agreed to talk. he has a long history handling clinton legal troubles advising then president clinton on campaign finance and impeachment. welcome back. >> thank you, chris. >> let's start with one of the big points that peter makes in his book. how do you explain bill clinton's speaking fees went up after his wife became secretary of state and the fact that the 13 speeches he's made since he left the white house for which he was paid $500,000 or more 11 of those 13 were while she was secretary of state. >> i can't explain why people decide to pay george bush and others lots of money, that's there decision. knowing bill clinton all of these years he's worth listening to and because of his activities all over the globe and certainly in the foundation he's probably worth that amount of money. >> i gels the question is you would think the market would be that he would be most valuable and most interesting right after he left the white house. in fact the speaking fee goes up dramatically and 11 of the 13

for more let me bring in lanny davis, former special council to the white house. carol helman. great to have all of you with us tonight. caroline, you first. is this going to be an issue in 2016? it seems like the republicans just can't bring themselves to say we're willing to discriminate against gay people. because that's what they're doing. >> indeed that is what's happening. as you noted, 55% of americans support gay marriage. if you look at folks 30 and under, it's eight out of ten. so this issue has been decided for newer generations. it won't be an issue in ten years. and i do think it will be an issue in the 2016 election, because it is one of a series of cultural wedge issue where is there is a very clear choice between democrats and republicans. >> brad, the fact that hillary clinton made a definitive statement about this last week tells me she gets it, she understands where the country is moving. and isn't willing to discriminate against americans. so what does this do if anything, for her campaign? >> well i think it's very important. i mean i'm glad that she clarif

that's going to be a struggle. >> what about that lanny? >> here's the quick definition of marco rubio or any republicans' populism. be against any kind of increase of taxes among multi-millionaires and oppose tax cuts for the middle class. that's their voting record. marco rubio opposed increasing taxes for millionaires. and secondly, with all due respect, marco rubio said i don't want to go back to 1999. excuse me 23 million new jobs a budget surplus. what does he not like about 1999? i would say that hillary clinton is much more closer to the people of this country than republicans who are feeding the upper 1% of the 1% and i think they're out of touch. >> how does hillary clinton have credit for any of that? she was the first lady but she wasn't a policymaker. >> but the voting record in the united states senate and you'll vote up on her voting record. >> it was after that period. >> compared to marco rubio, opposing raising taxes on the wealthy. she had eight years as a senator. look it up. >> i'll be happy to look it up and have anoth
