we know this is a large city, and we do not see a lot people from different communities in that unionwe also know the economic rewards that will be attributed to the city, we would like to see the various communities be able to participate sitting at the table when we get to talking about who was going to get what and how it will be divvied up. a lot of times these are opportunities that the communities miss out on. why? because we're not sitting at the table. other people are speaking for us. communities can and should be at the table to speak for themselves and the various communities. this is an opportunity. let's not miss out on this. but everyone and -- let's have everyone participate and make this a win/win situation. >> good afternoon. not only what i like to see some strong prevailing wage language, because i believe that as sustainable livable wage is something we can all get behind, for not only the workers but the community, but i would like to see local hire language that would apply to the post- construction also, long-term instead of the short-term construction. thank yo

most challenged areas of our city kept alive by a half million dollar earmark from congressman jerry lewis and that expires and they don't come back i end up the loser. largely, we did a sale and got a 50% thumbs up from our city to do that. most of that, most all of it has again to the police department. i was hoping to have a little more for prevention and intervention but the council said give it the p.d. so we have supported our programs largely by applications like those earmarks and other applications, cops grant and other anti-gang activities. we have become grant specialists to maintain the resources we have and we have become this remarkable alliance of community nonprofits and other services that kept us alive. the feds have a limited role at this point and earmarks for us has been an important opportunity. not much else out there on this landscape. >> i echo the same things. but we have also been very fortunate. i want to emphasize the thing i said earlier. you build strong communities. you are going to really attack that gang prevention in a before way. we are recipients of a hud grant, community choice program ground to rebuild our alice griffit

we have suburbs around san francisco and other large cities. if we overdo it too much in san francisco, we will drive part of our economic base out of san francisco. they're already going to shopping centers where there is free parking. it is a little more difficult to shop here. we have better shopping, i think, but it is more of a challenge. we have to figure out a way to accommodate them in the system. a lot of the congestion we have is not from cars downtown. it is double-parked vehicles, construction going on, buses stopped -- they are never in the bus zone. they are always in the right- hand lane. that messes up the other, two lines. i am not being negative, but this is the real world. if you want to have bus money, make sure they go to the bus stops and do not hang out in the street. those are some of my main thought. i think you're on the right track. we have spent five years, maybe 10, talking about what we are going to do with rapid transit on van ness and geary, which is not the end solution anyway. we have to figure out how to get t

i hope we are looking at a best practices of other cities, large and small, throughout the united states, with particular reference to those in the bay area. it is disappointing when we go around to our parks and open spaces and compare them with other cities, some of which are not necessarily wealthy cities, but they seem to be able to take care of their parks a lot better than we do. this is where this whole question of privatisation comes up. we are always told that we cannot afford to have enough gardeners. i remember when golden gate park was a pristine, when i first came to san francisco 45 years ago. it was manicured. it is not quite that way now. it is still trying, but it does not look as good. there is a little park where remember my oldest child had their first soccer game 25 years ago and i went there the other day and there is no grass left. how do the kids play? i am not saying it is all like that, but if it is possible, if you're not losing any jobs, we do not have enough gardiner's anyway, we can give this to some privatized firms. we can still control it, but they can ge
