as don knapp is in larkspur to tell us tonight, he has the latest. don. >> reporter: it's good water/bad water kind of issue. the bad water part was the sewage bypass pipe that's been on magnolia near bonaire for the last few weeks getting rid of the sewage problems they had at kentfield and larkspur. then they have been letting excess good water go downstream from the dams. >>> reporter: water rushes down the spillway at bon tempe lake after rains filled marin county reservoirs to their tops. it's only the third time in the past 30 years that reservoirs have reached capacity in december. heather and her children came out to see the water show and look for fish and tadpoles. >> it's grade to see the reservoirs this full this early in the season. we are very excited about that. >> reporter: the overflow heads down mount tam towards alpine dam, which like all seven of marin's reservoirs is filled to the brim. yesterday and earlier today the water district opened valves and sent a torrent downstream. ranger john captured the release at its peak on his c

joe vazquez is in larkspur and linda yee in daly city. but we begin with meteorologist lawrence karnow who is tracking the storm right now. lawrence? people in the north bay have been preparing for possible >> we begin with our meteorologist lawrence karnow. >> it has been ripping across the bay area tonight. heavy rainfall pretty much widespread. it looks like we may see the ends of it though in the next couple of hours. still, we are seeing moderate to heavy amounts of rainfall. main focus shifting a little further to the south in towards san jose rain there. just to the north. you've got pockets of some moderate amounts of rainfall and some heavier amounts of rainfall in toward the hayward area. those showers will continue on and off. that rain continuing for at least the next hour or so. then we may begin to see some changes as behind this on the back side you're starting to see things lighten up just a bit north of santa rosa but we have seen some very impressive rainfall all around the bay area. check out some of these totals. we ha

larkspur in the past 24 hours or so, over 3.5" of rain. oakland almost 3.5. san bruno 1.34." saratoga 1.02." so yeah, that was quite the soaker. and we saw pretty impressive totals all around the bay area. officially in santa rosa, almost 1.5". over 1.5" in san rafael. just over an inch and a quarter in san francisco. almost that in mountain view. san jose, they got that rain shadow effect but even them, they had over a half inch of rainfall. and it looks like we got a chance for a few more showers in the forecast. here's the storm system that brought you that heavy rainfall last night. it pushed down to southern california, brought them heavy rain as well. but now it's beyond us. now we're looking at cold air behind the system and still a couple of clouds out there so there is a chance we could see a couple more scattered showers so we'll call it partly cloudy, breezy winds continuing around the bay area. some of those winds still gusting to 20, 35 miles an hour. those should subside now. chilly temperatures around the bay area. overnight lows dipping into the 20s and the 30
