. >> abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield has more from larkspur. >> reporter: the picturesque golden gates the backdrop but instead of working in the machine shop, they are protesting the way they are treated in it. the union rep is handling the public speaking for the workers while they picket. he calls what they are doing a huge sacrifice. >> this is something no one wants to do. this is always a last resort. but again, these issues have been ongoing and it kind of got to the point when the machinists union said enough is enough, we are going to go on strike. >> reporter: commuters say they had heard about the strike but weren't quite sure what to expect this morning. >> we got a text and an e-mail if you were signed up with golden gate transit that there was going to be a strike but it wouldn't affect the ferry and transit drivers but you are never sure about that kind of thing. >> reporter: as people waited for their buses they were pleasantly surprised. other than having to duck through the crowd of picketers, commuters didn't have any problems. >> it hasn't really impacted the commu
