larry gerston is here.o see you, as always. 2020 election has been a heated topic of conversation for what, almost four years now. what are we missing here when we look at those numbers? >> you got your civics right. we talked about the popular vote versus the electoral vote. >> which a lot of people think we should do away with. >> that's another time. here's the story, if you really drill down, you have seven states here, seven states that made pretty much all the difference. it has a nice map that shows you what's going on. see the blue ones, nevada, arizona, wisconsin, pennsylvania, michigan, north carolina. in those six out of seven, they went to joe biden, about 53, 54 electoral votes. that was the difference. if they went the other way, you would be talking about president trump for real. but that didn't happen this time. only north carolina of those seven wins. these are called swing states, because they can swing either way. that becomes the most important part of the nation's electoral map. >> jus

i'm joined now by nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston. thanks for joining us. great to see you as always. i'm sure people are sick of hearing about super tuesday, but can -- >> whoa! wait a minute, this is my business. >> i know, i know. you'll be in business forever. can you paint the national picture for us. >> yeah, this is a big day, it really is. 16 states are going to be involved in this whole thing. 16 states, the biggest participation of all the time between january and july or august. california, of course, will have the most delegates. and we wonder what's going to happen here. for example, will president trump be anointed? probably not, not enough delegates. will nikki haley drop out? what about on the democratic side, will joe biden not only secure enough votes? no, not this week, but will he be able to chase away those other democrats who are nipping away at small percentages of his party? so these are the questions we're looking at. things will not necessarily be settled on tuesday, but will have a big end case as to where we're going. >> of cours

nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston joins us. good to see you this morning. things looking? >> good morning, kira. you use the magic numbers, two and two. things are tight in congress. democrats have a two-seat edge in the senate, republicans a two-seat margin in the house. put it together, and it is unbelievable. we do have some things happening. first of all, as we start into the senate, there are four states, four states where democrats are going to have an incredibly hard, uphill battle to win those back. they've got to win all of them, or at least three if they want to keep that lead, that edge in the senate. those are the states, arizona, montana, ohio, west virginia. those are critical states. west virginia is all but gone already. so they have got themselves a battle. remember, it's a two-seat advantage and they're on the verge of losing at least both, maybe more, unless something happens to the democrats in the senate. >> okay. so as you just said, that was a look at the senate. what about the house of representatives? i know the magic number is two
