larry gurston is here. great to see you as always. help us understand this confrontation, if you can. >> this is about the regional housing needs allocation. the story is we need in california 2.5 million housing units by 2030. a whole lot of housing, especially since we've only been making about 125,000 annually. not nearly enough. we need 360,000 annually. people believe that californians are leaving because they can't afford housing. we need more housing and lots of it. that's why we talk about this allocation plan. >> so talking about people leaving california, that's especially big here in the bay area. how does this requirement impact us here? >> in the bay area alone, nine counties, we are required to come up with 441,000 units by 2030. some cities have come up with their plan to how they're going to build their share. others have balked. woodside decided it should be a wildlife refuge area for the mountain lions so they couldn't be assigned more housing. but they don't want to do it, they just don't want to. >> this is an over

nbc bay area political analyst larry gurston joins us. great to see you as always.id used to live and work in and around shasta county. >> oh, my. >> my assumption, they got rid of dominion because this is a heavy trump-favored county. >> oh, yes. shasta county is an extremely northern california. we think we're northern california? no, extreme could be the word to use for shasta county, because if you look at the county, where it is and what they do, they voted just about opposite to the way we vote in california, around 30% for biden and 60% for trump, the rest of the tape just the opposite. this is an extraordinary situation and it leads to folks going in a whole different direction, because they just don't believe what the rest of us do. >> right. and i don't mean to be a naysayer, but counting by hand sounds like an extraordinary task. how practical is that idea? >> let me answer it this way, shasta -- i mean, kira. shasta county last time in 2020 had 29 different races, not just the presidency, but 94,000 voters. so just put that in your minds. we're going to
