larry johnson is a former cia intelligence officer and served four years in the office of counterterrorism. thanks for joining us. you're well connected. any additional insight into yesterday's operation. >> originally, the cia had the lead in pakistan. but what was surprising about yesterday is president obama's comments that the u.s. military special operations forces had the lead. i've been working with those guys for the last 17 years. i know which units were involved. >> al-qaeda has a hidden nuclear bomb in europe according to wikileaks to unleash a nuclear hell storm if osama bin laden is captured. >> that's nonsense. we have to recognize that our law enforcement, our intelligence service, military, over the last nine years they have been very effective in dismantling al-qaeda. we keep using the term al-qaeda as if it were a giant corporation with global capability, when in fact when bin laden there were 600 members just before 9/11. we probably killed at least 400. we've been after them ever since. they have not been able to replace the tall spent -- the talent and leadership they

former cia analyst larry johnson joins us tonight. thanks for joining us larry. can you hear us? >> yeah. i hear you fine. >> wonderful. a short time ago we learned u.s. officials speaking on the condition of anonymity told the associated press during a closed door briefing with lawmakers cia director leon panetta said pakistan was involved or incompetent. what does your gut tell you? what does your knowledge of pakistan tell you about this? >> i don't have to rely upon my gut. it's knowledge. they've been involved for 32 years. think of the fact that 90% of the major al qaeda figures have been captured inside pakistan. back in august of '98 after the bombing of the u.s. embassies in tanzania and kenya when we launched cruise missiles and president clinton launched cruise missiles against what they thought were al qaeda camps. they ended up killing at least two isi officers. that's the pakistani equivalent of the cia. so there are elements in pakistan that directly support al qaeda. they supported ones that carried out the december 2008 terrorist attack in mumbai, india and, in f
