the fbi under fire in the larry nassar case. what's just been uncovered. also, severe storms, reports of a tornado on the ground at this hour. but we are going to begin tonight with the difficult audio in the tragedy that gripped this nation. for the first time, we're hearing the calls to 911 right after the collapse of that condominium building in surfside, florida. newly released calls from families, from tenants who were trapped in parts of the building still standing. some calling from the parking garage, saying it was filling with water. trying to escape back up the stairs. tonight, nearly three weeks after the catastrophic collapse of that high rise, this is what remains. there is movement tonight on several fronts. new reporting from our team here on potential problems, warning signs, as early as 1996, with the pool deck and the underground garage. and the desperate search for survivors turning to a recovery mission. today, another person found in the rubble has now been identified. at least 96 people have now confirmed to have died in the collapse.

larry nassar. e justice department found fbi agents learned of the allegations in 2015 but waited more than a year before opening an investigation. during that time, nassar abused dozens of gymnasts. jeff pegues is at fbi headquarters. how's the bureau responding? >> reporter: well, good morning. there were some really serious failures here, and the fbi is acknowledging that, calling the actions and inactions of some of the agents involved inexcusable and a real discredit to the organization. still, a lot of larry nassar's victims are not satisfied that everyone involved in this scandal has come clean. >> it's pretty disgusting. >> reporter: olympic gymnast jamie danzscher says she's outraged. she said she was abused by larry nassar for years, including while she was on the 2000 u.s. olympic gymnastics team. >> the main reason why i came forward and when i came forward wasn't for myself, it was to protect this from happening to other little girls in the future. >> reporter: according to the 109-page

abbott thanks the law enforcement officers and prosecutors who brought larry nassar to justice. mr. horrible dream find peace. the department of justice declined prosecution on two personnel in this matter last year. the fbi has demoted one, is waiting for response from the fbi's office of professional responsibility, the other retired. attorney john manly is calling now for criminal charges to be filed. he says that there has to be accountability. and he tells me that otherwise what you're telling the fbi field offices you can do whatever you want. now, john, the big question is why, right? why would they hold this? these three minors said they would talk back in 2015 to the fbi. first of all, they only talked to one. they did not talk to all three. couple of handwritten notes. here is also what's in the report which is interesting, the head of the field office in indianapolis was just about to retire. and it talks about in that report a meeting at a bar that he had with the head of usa gymnastics. he wanted a position with the u.s. olympic committee that was open right then and the

larry nassar was your doctor a decade. did you have issues with him? did others have issues?th him nearly a decade of my childhood, i was not sexually abused by him. he was a wolf in sheep's clothing. saw him as a friend. many saw him as someone that they could confide in. i did not. i had trust issues already. i didn't let a lot of people in. from that pain as i mentioned earlier, it serves a greater purpose and driven me to be so passionate about what i'm doing today and wanting to make a greater impact and i truly believe that is the case for the hundreds of survivors that have spoken out. he's in jail the rest of his life. they will spend much of the rest of their life healing and they can do that by helping others. >> neil: your view on these athletes that turn around, take a knee when it's the u.s. national anthem, how do you feel about that, an olympic venue, your thoughts? >> goodness. i'm going to -- i understand that our country, you know, does have a painful past. there is -- i think there's a lot of good in this world. that's what i try to remind myself. but there
