las vegas police and the clark county sheriff's department have trained. they've always thought that las vegas was a potential terror attack site. they focussed a lot on the casinos. this is a scenario perhaps they've not drilled for. >> it always feels like we're playing catch-up. every time we put up new security measures, somehow the attackers find ways around them. you pointed out ariana grande. now we're liking at the possibility of a shooter shooting from the hotel because they can't get into the concert arena. how do you stop that from happening? is there an answer? >> probably not. there are limits on how much security you can impose, in a place like las vegas where people want to come and go. you can't shut down the treat. you can't have people go through a metal detector as they enter the strip itself. very, very difficult. >> you mentioned in a lot of terrorist videos they often feature times square, las vegas as possible targets. do we know if there has been chatter of another pending attack or something as horrible as this? >> not that i have s

las vegas time. 100 plus people injured. many of them critical. we just heard from the sheriff in las vegas and also getting an update, two off-duty police officers ad in this terrific shooting that happened in las vegas along the las vegas strip as country music star jason aldean was performing. >> -- shooter considered a lone wolf attack instead. he acted like a sniper getting to the 32nd flooring using an automatic weapon to rain down shots on the 30,000 people at the music festival. the route 91 country music festival. people just going there to have a good time, didn't know they were innocents in a killing field. there are off-duty police officers attending the festival who have died in addition to many, many others to know these numbers updated as the situation unfolds. >> there is a search underway right now in las vegas. they are looking for these two vehicles right now. sheriff joe lombardo from the las vegas pd originally got these plates wrong. 114 b40, 19d 401. chrysler pacifica. we don't know the colors but they have a person of interest right now they are looking for. joe lombardo is a person of interest believed to be the roommate,

he's had some contact with las vegas police, but that could be minor or drunk or even homeless on the street. we should find more out today about what is his life like in las vegas. that may answer some questions. >> it may. it may. we wonder what triggered this. we're also going to be finding more in the hours, in the coming hours about numbers here. numbers of dead. we're looking at 50 dead, at least. but with more than 200 injured, that number could go up. we just talked to a spokeswoman for the largest trauma center in nevada, and they brought in 104 patients. two died. eight or so were in the o.r., and there were about 12 critical at last check for her. and some patients walked in and were allowed to leave as well. so some of the injuries were far less grave. the numbers on your screen right now officially make this the worst mass casualty shooting in u.s. history. and we still don't know how high those numbers will do. we have been following the story all morning, and we are covering more reaction from victims. >> reporter: we've been speaking to eyewitnesss throughout the cours

the red cross is at the las vegas police headquarters right now. they are encouraging family members of victims to come there if they do not know where their loved ones are. they can help them. las vegas has a number of trauma centers at this point. and the big issue is how many victims are there? and police are very blunt but they just don't know at this point. at least 100 wounded. a lot least 20 deceased. one las vegas police officer is in critical condition fighting for his life in a hospital. another officer is in stable condition in that hospital. but as far as concertgoers, we do know that there were several las vegas police officers off duty in that audience and they now believe they are deceased. i want you to listen to the latest presser how this all came down and how they discovered where that shooter was. listen. >> we determined there was a shooter on the 32nd floor of the mandalay bay. officers responded to that location anden gauged the suspect at that location. he is currentl dead currently. he is a local resident. i will not release
