congresswoman lateefah simon being sworn in, following in her footsteps. really felt so proud, but i felt so encouraged that that her light and her voice is going to shine. lee was the 20th black woman elected to congress. to date, there's been 31 representation she says is needed on a wider scale. the perspective, the experience, the brilliance, the strength of black women has been missing in the house, has been missing in the senate. and so this is a continuation of what we have been fighting for since we were brought here, enslaved. while lee has many proud moments, she says one includes legislation she pushed to pass under republican president george bush for hiv and aids relief. and we saved to date 25 million lives. and that's because i took that to a republican president who i disagreed with, talked to him, worked with him. as for what's next, the now former congresswoman says there are many options and is not ruling out a run for oakland mayor, adding her decision will come soon. and could that next chapter be potentially running for oakland mayor?

newly sworn in congresswoman lateefah simon announced yesterday that $2 million in federal funding toonnect chinatown's community to the waterfront by maintaining and enhancing pathways that go under eight 8880, has long split chinatown from the waterfront neighborhood, limiting residents ability to access opportunities or simply travel safely between destinations. that new grant will fund enhancements to the underpasses that currently separate chinatown, increasing safety measures, expanding accessible walkways and bike paths. a northern california indigenous tribe is celebrating a victory that will also bring big changes to the city of vallejo. the u.s. department of interior is approving a request by the scotts valley band of pomo indians to place a 128 acre parcel of land in federal trust. what that means is the government holds the title, but the tribe gets to develop and govern the land. the scotts valley tribe plans to build an eight story casino, as well as homes and an administrative building on the site, which is bordered by i-80 and columbus parkway in vallejo. several bay

lateefah simon, the newly elected east bay representative is at ucsf benioff children's hospital in oakland to discuss health care under the trump administration, a website that states use to get medicaid payments from the federal government had a temporary outage today, which raised some concern. this after president trump ordered a pause on federal grants. the website is back up and running, and the outage appears to be unrelated. today, president trump signed an executive order banning federally funded programs from helping people under 19 years old access gender affirming care. the president also offered federal workers a buyout with seven months pay to shrink. the government, and a federal judge blocked the new move by the white house budget office to pause all federal grants and loans. abc seven news south bay reporter zach fuentes live for us in san jose with a closer look at the funding freeze and the bay area groups that could be affected by this. zach. >> yeah. the federal judge paused that funding freeze just before it was set to take effect at 2 p.m. our time and a lot of local
