do cities -- what role do they play in your rollout plans, and how important is community management to the process? let me start with you, jessica. >> for us, we have chosen to launch city by city. we feel that is really important because it lets us take the time needed to build up a great community of people sharing cars. that lets us find great cars, educate the owners, educate the renters, and ensure there is the right balance and variety of cars. if you look on the site in san francisco, you will literally see cars all over the place. it is all over the bay area. you are seeing cars sharing happening in places it never had before. we worked with the city to see if there were any ways we could get out the word. we hope to work with existing programs or be added as an additional transportation solution. in general, we like to involve the city and city leaders in our announcement

it is a new project that is being launched by the foundation with the intent to bring more protected by ways to -- bike ways to u.s. cities. we were one of the cities chosen to participate in the project. it will be supporting development of these kinds of facilities and networks over the next two years. we were selected along with austin, chicago, memphis, portland, and washington, d.c. we had our kickoff last week in chicago, and were we were joined by the administrator of the federal highway administration. strong support from the u.s. to permit a transportation for this initiative. cities were recognized for their ambitious goals and their -- ambitious goals. we, for example, presented not just be recently implemented jfk bike way, but as well as the polk street project. we were selected also because of the quick work we have done since the injunction. people have been ty

[applause] >> but the west does not withdraw. instead, the berlin airlift is launched byombined allied task force. ♪ >> the air force assigned more than 300 airplanes and more than 20,000 men to the airlift. and britain made a large contribution of both aircraft and personnel. ♪ >> it was an operation without precedent and a severe test of precision flying, of logistics, maintenance, communication and weapons. >> the air corridor was narrow and dangerous. with 40-50 airplanes going through it simultaneously, they had to be accurately placed. and until the late stages of the airlift, they were flown at five different levels, 500 feets apart. this called for extremely precise air traffic control. >> some of us had bombed berlin, and now we were trying to keep the same city alive. it meant that we had to get more from each airplane and from each man than ever before. >> -- [inaudible] was called for the utilities. it was backed in g.i. barracks bags. second biggest item was made into pumpernickel. we call it bread. and milk for the kids. then medicines. every ounce of cargo

city administrator and advanced the city's move to a cleaner environment, most notably by leading the way for green, electric vehicle, and tuesday, his new office of innovation launched improve sf, a new web site to provide a platform for rethinking the role that government and citizens will play. he embraces technology, although, like a lot of us, he was a little slow to grab on sometimes initially as a cityinistrator. in the day one day, he is standing in front of the shredder, holding a document, frustrated and asks for someone to help them with this thing. an assistant comes over, pushes the button, takes the document, sticks it in. he says, "thank you so much. now can you make me two copies of that."
